Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife

Chapter 41: Brooklyn’s Weakness

Chapter 41: Brooklyn’s Weakness

Mrs. Powell didn’t have a good relationship with Brooklyn, but she knew very well her son’s weaknesses.

Even though Brooklyn’s feelings for Mirabelle was dwindling, and he didn’t want to heed her arrangements for marrying Mirabelle, the one who had saved him six years ago was none other than Mirabelle!

Furthermore, it was her who had dispatched numerous men from the Powell Group to look for Mirabelle’s whereabouts in Sliwell!

After Mrs. Powell had finished her words, there was silence lingering on the call.

She curled up her lips with a smug.

Anna probably didn’t know what had transpired six years ago.

Even though she was pretty and knew how to blend fragrances and coupled with Brooklyn’s indifferent attitude towards Mirabelle, that still wasn’t enough to just dismiss Mirabelle’s kindness towards him six years ago!

Brooklyn furrowed his brows solemnly.

His lips were pressed tight, and only after some time, opened his mouth, “I still remember what happened six years ago, but you shouldn’t do something like that right in front of my eyes. If something happens to Anna, I will direct my suspicion to you first things first, my dear mother.’

After saying that, Brooklyn hung up abruptly and tossed his phone aside.

Mrs. Powell’s initially smug face suddenly became hard.

She snorted coldly as she passed her phone which was ringing with a busy tone to her butler.

“That bratty and snotty Anna. So she has gone complaining to Brooklyn after suffering from me here? With her personality, what kind of hardship can she suffer here? I should be the one complaining about that! Throughout so many years, only she dared to speak to me like that!”

Mrs. Powell recalled what Diana had said that day, and her face was red with anger.

The butler noticed her ugly expression and immediately asked the butler what she wanted for breakfast.

“What I want for breakfast? I would be full just by being angry!” Mrs. Powell’s fury was just starting to escalate. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

The reason Brooklyn was throwing the blame at her must be because of Anna, that bitch sucking up to him.

Not allowing her to do what she shouldn’t have done?

Sliwell is a big city, so no matter how great the reaches of her son’s power was, there must still be some blind spots.

Mrs. Powell retrieved her gaze and came up with a strategy amidst her reverie.

“Help me find out what is Brooklyn’s schedule lately. Find out the time that he is the busiest with work and let me know about it.”

“Roger, Mrs. Powell.” The butler replied obediently.

So she was using Brooklyn as her protective umbrella? How about when he was busiest? He wouldn’t have time to care for such a tiny assistant like you if he’s busy!

There was a flash of darkness in Mrs. Powell’s eyes.

Diana touched up her make-up slightly in the dressing room, and after taking into account the time, she returned to the office.

She knocked lightly on the door and announced, “Mr. Powell, I am coming in.”

“Yes.”

When she pushed the door inwards, the man was already his usual self. He was staring at the computer monitor with an indifferent expression.

His handsome brows slowly became serene as he bit his lips lightly.

His dark eyes swept across Diana’s petite face, and he noticed the redness at the edge of her eyes.

It seemed that she was crying. What Harper was saying about her feeling indignant was true after all.

Nobody knew about Mrs. Powell’s means better than him.

Any women who could carry herself successfully in an affluent family were the type with cunning and unscrupulous ways.

Even her son himself was just a tool to maintain her status in the family.

When Brooklyn thought about her mother, a sense of disgust slowly unfolded on his face.

After a few seconds, his tightly shut lips suddenly sounded with a sound as melodic as a cello’s, “What are you holding there?”

Diana snapped back to the moment and replied, “Oh, Mr. Powell, this is the suit that I have just borrowed last time.”

As she said that she placed the tote bag on his desk, “Can I leave it here? I have already washed and dried it. This is a hand-made suit by a European guru, and I have abided by the strict methods of dry- cleaning it. There shouldn’t be any problem with it now.”

“Put it inside the closet.” Brooklyn retrieved his gaze as he opened the door of the closet.

Diana stuttered for a moment before mumbling a vague response.

She studied Brooklyn’s expression carefully to gauge the possibility of Harper disclosing her matter to him.

However, from Brooklyn’s inscrutable face, she could see that he was maintaining his composure very well. His eyes didn’t give anything away.

Diana couldn’t interpret anything from his face.

Brooklyn somehow caught on to her examining glance and he chuckled lightly while putting down his pen. He then looked up, “Are you entranced by my face?”

Diana revealed a faint smile. She didn’t mind him teasing her at all.

“You aren’t wrong about that. Mr. Powell, you are the most pleasing sight among all the men I have laid eyes on. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother to come applying for a job at the Powell Group.”

Diana winked playfully as her gaze met Brooklyn’s inscrutable gaze.

She wasn’t lying. In her six years staying overseas, she had seen various handsome artists and famous people, but there was no one who could hold a candle to this man in front of her.

Brooklyn allowed a smile on his face.

He wasn’t going to believe anything this woman was spouting.

Diana put the suit back in Brooklyn’s personal closet and returned to the outer region to get back to her office desk.

“Tomorrow at seven, Mr. and Mrs. Hill are going to hold a banquet. Get ready for it.”

Before Diana could settle down in her seat, Brooklyn was already dishing out new assignments.

He was really a capitalist who wouldn’t let any chance of oppressing her go.

“Mr. Powell, will I attend as your assistant, or as the company’s perfumer?”

Brooklyn never removed his eyes from his computer, “You’re going as my partner.”

Diana was at a loss for words.

Just yesterday, his mother had summoned her to humiliate her, and today he was going to drag her into a shit hole again!

“Mr. Powell, it’s not like I don’t want to be present as your partner for that banquet. You obviously know… that I am indeed pretty, and I will be the subject of jealousy there. You still have a fiancée, and what if your fiancée decides to crush me because she couldn’t bear the jealousy? I would suppose the outcome wouldn’t be beneficial to anyone here.”

Although Brooklyn had compensated Diana for her destroyed stuffs, but her design draft was not something he could compensate for with money.

Brooklyn sunk into a brief silence.

He finally understood the reason Harper was so hesitant when he was reporting to him.

There wouldn’t be another woman in the world who could blurt out something as blatant as “I am pretty, so I would attract jealousy easily” like her.

Brooklyn shifted his gaze from his computer monitor, “Anna, you are my employee. I will be tolerant towards you normally, but don’t think that I would just let you get your way now. Later in the afternoon, head to the LIK mall and choose an evening gown that suits you. Purchase it under my name.”

Everything was decided. There wasn’t any space left for turning back.

Brooklyn was feeling very generous towards Anna, like how he usually treated the other women when accompanying him to a banquet.

When he said that to Diana, never once did the thought of Diana being out of the ordinary cross his mind.

Diana paused and pouted, “Mr. Powell, I don’t think I’m lacking in the money department. However, it doesn’t hurt to have more of it. It’s just buying an evening gown and I even need to buy it under your name, but compare to that, how about you promising me something? No matter what I do, or what you ask of me, your fiancée or your mother can’t humiliate me.”

She wasn’t short of money.

If she was in need of money, as long as she flicked her fingers, there would be clients lining up for her services.

What she wanted was insurance.

An insurance that described Brooklyn’s coverage and protection for her no matter what she was going to do!
