Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife

Chapter 53: Failed Miserably

Chapter 53: Failed Miserably

Ashley didn’t move.

How did she know Diana’s capability?

Diana didn’t urge her, just looking at Ashley in silence.

After a few minutes, Ashley couldn’t bear the silence in the office any longer. With a darkened face, she reached out her trembling hands and picked up the bottle of perfume blended by Diana.

With just a single smell, her expression changed extremely complicated.

She had been working in the blending business for many years, but it was the first time that Ashley smelt such a rich perfume.

The integration of the pre tune, middle tune, and post tune was quite subtle.

She was afraid that an international master of perfume would just be like this.

If Powell Group launch this perfume in the market, not only in Sliwell but also the whole world would remember it.

Ashley tightly bit her bottom lip. She was reluctant to admit being defeated.

She was reluctant that a woman, who just joined Powell Group a few weeks ago, could present a perfume that defeated her.

How could she bear such a humiliation?

Diana shook her head, feeling helpless.

She wasn’t interested in the perfume department of Powell Group. The reason that she joined Powell Group was to take revenge on Mirabelle, which had no conflict of interests with Ashley at all.

If it weren’t that Ashley insisted on setting her up, after Diana developed the perfume that could cure Brooklyn’s insomnia, Diana could even stop using the molecular lab of Powell Group.

“Ms. Carter, do you have any other comment?” Brooklyn looked at Ashley coldly.

The latter couldn’t utter any word, lost in her failure.

“I identified Anna’s perfume in person,” Brooklyn closed his eyes and said in a cold tone, “I know better than you about her capability. As a perfumer who could blend a bottle of perfume that delighted Mr. and Mrs. Hill, why would she steal a bottle of perfume that couldn’t compare to her own? Tell me, Ms. Carter.”

Ashley looked pale.

“Mr. Powell, I...” Ashley tried her best to retort, “Even if my blending skill is worse than Anna’s, it couldn’t prove that Anna wasn’t the person who has stolen the perfume.”

Diana curled her lips.

She had never seen such a stubborn person.

“Ms. Carter, tell me. Was the perfume stolen yesterday?”

“Yes, it was.”

“Last night?” asked Diana.

“Yes, last night. I left the company at five o’clock in the afternoon. I came to work at nine this morning and found the perfume was stolen.”

Diana smiled. “Mr. Powell, Mr. Gibson, have you heard it? It completely proves that I’m innocent.”

Harper heaved a sigh. He couldn’t bear Ashley’s stupid behaviors any longer.

“Ms. Carter, if that’s the case, Anna can’t be the suspect who stole the perfume.”

Ashley was shocked again.

She wondered why even Mr. Powell’s secretary also took Anna’s side.

Feeling speechless, Harper explained, “Anna had been staying in the office last night and didn’t leave until the early morning. Mr. Powell and I could prove that. Ms. Carter, will you suspect that Mr. Powell is covering Anna’s crime for her?”

From the very beginning, Ashley’s scheme wouldn’t succeed.

Brooklyn still saved her dignity for the sake that she had been working hard for Powell Group in the past several years.

He only let her identify that she wasn’t so capable as Anna, but he didn’t obviously expose her purpose was to setting Anna up.

However, Ashley was way too stupid and couldn’t even understand Brooklyn’s implication.

Hence, Harper had to expose her.

Ashley’s lips trembled. She clenched her hands tightly.

“Ms. Carter, I’ve never offended you before and there should be no grudge between us. Why did you have to set me up?” said Diana said gently, “And you’ve done it more than once. Last time, you put the green mint in the spices you gave to me. You know my perfume was to ease insomnia, but you gave me the spices mixed with the green mint. Do you need me to explain your purpose?”

“How... how could you find it?” Ashley asked loudly. “In that spice mixture, I added other spices to cover the green mint’s smell!”

“I’m a perfumer, Ms. Carter.” Diana looked at her. If it weren’t for the bottle of spice Ashley gave to her, she wouldn’t have been alert to Ashley so early. “I’m living on my skills as well as my smell. If I couldn’t find the green mint out of those spices that you used to cover its smell, how could I blend the perfume that would delight our customers?”

As she spoke, Diana lowered her head and checked the Patek Philippe on her wrist -- it was ten minutes to five.

She smiled gently and said in a sweet tone, “Mr. Powell, since things are clear, please excuse me. I need to knock off now.”

It was the birthday of Austin and Emily, and she deliberately booked a birthday meal for the two kids in a Michelin restaurant.

Unfortunately, Ashley had picked up such a day. Diana couldn’t do anything but resolve it as soon as possible.

After finishing her words, Diana left the office in high heels, leaving Ashley facing the angry Brooklyn alone.

“Mr. Powell, I really didn’t mean to do it... There are so many rumors about Anna in our company, I was just...”

Brooklyn interrupted Ashley’s nonsense calmly, “Ms. Carter, you’ve been working for our company for six years. Later, you can go to the HR department to get your twelve-month bonus and resign.”

As he spoke, Brooklyn looked down. He even didn’t spare a glance at Ashley again.

He would never keep any employee who suppressed the subordinates for the sake of authority of office.

Upon hearing it, Ashley trembled all over. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Mr. Powell, please give me one more chance. The perfume that I blended this season would definitely reach a high sales rate, and it would bring the company huge profit!”

“Hasn’t your perfume been stolen?” said Brooklyn in a cold tone.

He put down the pen in his hand and cast a sharp and cold glance at the woman in front.

“Ashley, I’ve been way too merciful on you already.”

...

Diana drove to the school, picking up the kids to celebrate their birthday in the restaurant.

Seeing her, Emily threw herself into Diana’s arms. She gently kissed Diana’s cheek. “Mommy, you came a bit later than usual today. Is it because of your work?”

Diana smiled tenderly. She held Emily in her arms and took Austin’s hand with the other hand, walking to the parking lot with them.

“Yes. When I was working, a bad woman set me up. If it weren’t that I’m smart, probably it would waste me a lot of time.” Diana opened the door of the car and helped them fasten the seat belts. When she was about to start the engine, her phone started ringing.

With a frown, Diana checked the caller ID. Seeing it was a call from Harper, she hurriedly swiped to answer, “Hello, Mr. Gibson? Anything happened in the company?”

With a smile, Harper answered, “Nothing serious, Anna. Just now, Mr. Powell said that you’ll be the manager of the perfume department from now on.”

Diana was taken aback for a second.

Suddenly, she realized that she would be transferred to a different seat in the office if she became the manager of the perfume department, which also meant that she would be further away from Brooklyn. If she couldn’t meet Brooklyn all the time, how could she get Mirabella’s whereabouts through Brooklyn?
