Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Abalene was not sure how much Silvia had overheard. She must have been heartbroken to hear Neil defend Ada.
“Silvia, what brings you here?”
Silvia snapped out of her thoughts and forced a smile. She picked up the phone she had dropped and handed it to Abalene.
“Madam Remus, you left your phone in my room. I’m here to return it.”
Abalene took the phone and cautiously asked, “How long have you been here?”
“I just arrived. I’ll go back now that I’ve returned your phone.”
Silvia did not wait for her response and left straightaway.
Seeing Silvia’s somewhat lonely figure, Abalene gave Neil the side-eye. “Alright. I can’t be bothered to deal with you anymore. Just do whatever you want with Ada.”
After she entered her room, Neil went after Silvia without hesitation.
He blocked her way at the elevator doors and hoped to see a hint of anger on her face.
However, he was disappointed to see her look back at him with indifference.
“Silvia, don’t you have any questions about what my grandmother said just now?”
Silvia looked straight ahead and replied with a lack of interest, “That’s your business, not mine. You don’t need to explain anything to me.”
Right then, the elevator doors opened.
She walked into the elevator and pressed the button to close the doors. However, Neil stepped in just as they were about to
close.
“You may not want to hear it, but I want to explain.”
Silvia felt a little helpless as she looked at him and said, “You refused to explain when I wanted to hear it. Your explanation seems pointless now that I’m not interested anymore.”
Neil looked her in the eyes fiercely and asked, “You don’t care about it anymore?”
After a brief pause, Silvia slowly said, “The day after I asked you for a divorce for the first time, I went on a solo trip. When I was in the northernmost part of Icyland, I accidentally fell into a lake. The water was extremely cold, and I almost froze to death. If a local herder hadn’t happened upon me, I might have died there.”
His
eyes
widened at the thought of her dying, and he subconsciously clenched his fists.
“I never heard about it…”
Silvia looked at him calmly. “I’m not telling you this to guilt you or evoke any emotions. I just want you to know that when I was on the verge of dying in that lake, I realized something. Persistently pursuing things that aren’t meant for you will only
wear you out.
“So, I truly don’t love you anymore. It doesn’t matter to me whether you have an affair with Ada or end up with her. Do you understand?” This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Neil took a deep breath and firmly said, “Even if that’s the case, I won’t divorce you. I promised to care for you for the rest of my life, and I won’t break it.”
“You don’t have to keep your promise. I’ll be better off without you.”
Her words pierced his heart, and he felt as if something was gradually slipping away from him.
“I’ll never agree to a divorce no matter what you say!” he said stubbornly.
He could not quite figure out why he was clinging to this decision. Was it really because of the promise he had made to Silvia? He did not want to think about it. When the elevator doors opened, he left in a hurry.
Silvia sighed as she watched his back.
After she returned to her room, she had lunch and took a nap. However, she was awakened by her ringing phone in the
afternoon.
