Chapter 881 Thieves who take advantage of the fire
Acar slowly stopped outside the gate of the villa. Nina thought it was Harley, who always had come back to get his wallet or his phone, and stopped to look.
The electronic gate opened automatically and a limited edition black Bentley drove in. Nina was a little puzzled by the entrance of this unfamiliar car and was even more annoyed at Mrs. Otis for opening the gates and letting the stranger drive in. She squinted her eyes towards the gate, but much to her surprise, the two servants were nowhere to be found. Not knowing what else to do, she pushed the baby stroller behind her in an attempt to hide True Paul.
Just as she was thinking of an alternative escape plan, the black Bentley rolled to a stop in the middle of the courtyard. Almost immediately, the male driver, dressed up in a suit and a pair of white gloves, jumped out of the car. He marched down to the back of the car and opened the door, bowing in respect.
After some seconds, the owner of the car, a woman, stepped out of the car gracefully. She wore an expensive-looking satin dress with exquisite colour and texture, and the pearl necklace which rested on her chest gave an added touch of elegance to her already sophisticated look. Nina immediately recognised her. The woman was Carlee!
Nina was stunned. Although she knew that Carlee would come back from her hometown sooner or later, she never thought it would be this soon. She would have asked that Harley be the one to welcome her back but he had gone out to buy milk powder, and it was too late to call him back.
Carlee stood by the car, staring at Nina while motioning for the driver to open the door on the other side.
The driver obeyed her orders, opened the door slowly, and stretched out his hand to help the person sitting in the backseat.
Nina also recognized the second person to be Sylvia at first glance. It was quite a while since she had set eyes on Sylvia and Nina could notice changes like the more flesh she seemed to be adding on. No matter how loose-fitting her clothes were, they couldn't cover her slightly bulging belly.
Nina was extremely embarrassed standing in front of the villa and the stroller suddenly seemed hot in her hands. The scorching sun above her head seemed to be hotter than before. She was so nervous.
If things were normal, as Harley's fiancee, she would have walked up and said hello to Carlee. But Nina knew things were not normal. Getting any close to Carlee or Sylvia was sure not to do her any good so she simply stood her place and did not move.
Carlee and Sylvia let their eyes wander around the compound walking towards the villa, while the driver got into the car and drove away to park it. Looking at the two of them talking to each other in a low voice, Nina subconsciously protected her daughter by holding the armrest of the stroller firmly with both hands.
"Nina?" Carlee called. Her face was a mixture of anger and surprise.
Sylvia remained quiet and studied Carlee’s countenance. Her voice seemed calm but there was a smug look in her eyes.
"Mrs. Timothy, it seems that Nina has moved into our compound,” Sylvia uttered in mock surprise.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here with you," Carlee said, sensing that Sylvia was beginning to be timid. "Just follow me. Don't get angry over this cunning woman. it's not worth it if you hurt the child.”
Sylvia nodded and smiled. This is also the reason why she contacted Carlee a month later, and said on the phone that she had recently gained weight and had gotten pregnant for her son. Truth be told, Sylvia's belly was fake. In fact, she had been deliberately eating more, but this was unknown to Carlee.
“Hello Mrs. Timothy, you are back,” Nina greeted courteously. As for Sylvia, Nina paid her no heed.
Carlee looked at Nina and sneered sarcastically: “If I hadn't lived in this house for more than 20 years, I would have thought I had entered the wrong door."
Nina was extremely embarrassed but she kept her cool. She was determined not to make any irrational decisions until Harley returned. Even if she were to move out today, she didn't want to lose her temper on Carlee, although she wasn't so sure how things would turn out between her and Sophia.
"Mrs. Carlee, Harley is out, he will be back soon,” she explained calmly. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Before she could finish her sentence, Carlee interrupted her and asked, “Who let you in? Is it Harley?"
Nina sighed. "Harley wants to see the child every day, so we live here temporarily.”
"For the time being? I don't think you are allowed to stay here. Take your car and drive away!" Carlee taunted. feeling it was too hot in the sun, she and Sylvia stepped into the villa, leaving Nina and her daughter out in the courtyard.
But Nina didn't fight back. She found a place to sit on the steps on the porch and decided to wait there for Harley to come back. However, after standing for less than two minutes, Mrs. Barns came out of the villa and approached her with a message.
"Mrs. Timothy, Mrs. Carlee said you could come in."
"No, thank you!" Nina respectfully declined. "Please help me get out guests something to eat. I'll be waiting for Harley in the courtyard."
Mrs. Barns frowned. As a servant, it was easy to go back to your mistress, especially when one had failed to execute his or her master's orders. As expected, Carlee came out to confront Nina just as the
latter sat on the steps of the porch to rest, while rocking the stroller gently.
"I asked Mrs. Barns to invite you in, but you dare to refuse my order?” Carlee thundered, leaning against the door.
Nina kept her calm. "Mrs. Carlee, I think I would prefer to stay out here. I just don't want to upset you.”
Carlee curled her lips. “Since you don't want to upset me, why did you move in then while I was away? Who do you think you are?” She paused to scoff. "This house was left to me by Harley's father. But you broke in without my permission. Didn't you think that would upset me?"
The series of aggressive questions left Nina at a loss for answers.
She took in a deep breath and was about to tell Carlee that she was going to move out when the electronic door not far away opened again. The man who drove into the courtyard this time was Harley, holding the milk powder and toys he bought for his daughter, as well as a set of skin care products for Nina. He was happy, but his countenance changed when he caught a glimpse of his daughter's stroller in the courtyard.
"Nina, the baby is going to be hungry again, I'll make milk powder for her," Harley offered, his voice cherry. He was about to put his things down and give Nina a big hug when he saw his mother standing at the door of the villa.
"Mom? When did you come back?" He asked, the toy in his hand falling to the ground as he grew startled.
Carlee hadn't seen Harley for a month, but the anger in her heart hadn't dissipated. Also seeing how intimate he was with Nina, her rage rekindled.
"You mean I can't come back to my own? Or did I come back and affect your perfect home?” She sighed. “I only went back to my hometown for a month, and this prostitute came in with her loser of a child, and now the house is full of disgust, all because of them!"
Carlee spoke with so much disdain that a lonely tear trailed down Nina's cheek.
