I watch her pretty eyes scan the room, lighting up when she catches sight of the painting she had done for me for one of my birthdays on the shelf. It was supposed to be a painting of us but my girl wasn’t an artist but at least the stick figures were not that bad.

You still have it!” She gasped, moving out of my hold to stride over to the shelf. Even though I did not want to separate from her for one second I decided that I should, seeing how happy she looked when her eyes spotted the painting.

“Of course I kept it,” I reply, smiling at her little figure in my room. She always belonged here, with me, in my room. “It means a lot to me why wouldn’t I?”

She turns to me, her eyes tearing with emotion. “I can’t believe you kept it. I could have sworn you said your mom was cleaning out your room.”

I shrugged, moving to her. ” She did, but I made sure to tell her to keep the things that mattered here,” I press against her back, unable to stay away from her too long and circle my arms around her.

She leans into my hold, sighing as she turns back to stare at the painting.

I was really a bad artist back then,” she snorted and I raised a brow.

“Back then? You still are my love,” I pointed out and she whirls around, fake glaring up at me. “Hey! You said I got better!” she scowled playfully.

I grinned down at her, feeling my heart swell with more love for this girl in front of me. ” It’s okay baby, you’re way better in other things,” I she expertise in more.

She swatted my chest. ” Okay horny Xade Archer, maybe you should go have a shower to remove the grim off you,” she utters, her eyes avoiding to drop down to stare at what belongs to her.

I smirk, and with a tug, pull her flush against my front. ” Only if you join me,” I licked my lower lip and she huffs. “You know it won’t end up with us just showering.”

I chuckled because she was right but I promise to be on my best behavior and fight it because we had other concerns to worry about. Even though I wanted nothing more than to be inside her and get lost in the feeling of home, I knew I had to focus on getting her name cleared so her life can somewhat go back to normal.

” I won’t do anything I promise,” I rubbed circles on her waist and she arches one of those pretty brows up. She didn’t believe me. “I won’t, we will just shower and then head to the infirmary to check up on my brother and Kaylee. Then if you want we can go to your home to see your mom,” I suggested.

Her brows relaxed. “I would have said it’s strange my mom doesn’t know what’s going on if I didn’t really know my mom. I bet she’s in her garden, planting away until her fingers hurt.”

I snorted. She was right, her mom sole focus was her daughter Avery and her plants. The woman didn’t even own a television. In her words she rather be in the moment and away from anything electronic.

“Your mom is probably the only person on this earth who hasn’t heard what is happening. But it’s a good thing, we won’t have to explain this to her and hopefully, we will sort it out before we have to,” I utter.

Avery nods and I step back and take her hand in mine. ” Come on let’s get you cleaned up and ready.”

Avery follows after me. Xade?”

I turn back around to stare at her and she smiles. ” You kept your promise to come back to me.”

My heart aches with the love I have for her as I reply, squeezing her hand reassuringly. “I keep my promises don’t I?”
