Bailey's pov
" Come on guys," the coach blew his whistle, the veins on his neck pulsing. He raised an arm to sling over his glistening sweaty forehead. " Stop acting like sissies, one more lap."
One of the boys on the team whined, yelling for a break. I swore the coach was about to pop a vein when he shouted no to the poor boy who looked ready to faint.
" Get your silly ass up Connah and run some more!" He yelled, his face red. Mira and Katrina snorted beside me, pointing out how extremely red coach Balon face was.
But my attention wasn't really on the coach or the other tired football players. My attention was solely on him. I hadn't been able to take my eyes off him.
I always enjoyed watching Kaleb play football, but what I enjoyed the most was seeing how much he enjoyed it.
He was the one leading and right behind him was Ryan and Stefan. All three of the guys looked like they were not even sweating as much as the other players.
I bit my lower lip, my eyes dropping to his strong arms and legs only to his suddenly when I feel a sharp pinch on the side of my waist.
I snapped my gaze to Mira who had a sheepish smile on her face. "Sorry had to do it cause you were lost in your own world."
I flushed, hoping she hadn't noticed I was checking out her brother on the field.
I fixed my ponytail and looked at the guys, trying my best to not focus solely on Kaleb this time. " Sorry, I'm thinking about the Spanish exam coming up next week."
Mira snorted. " You're such a nerd."
I shrugged. " Well I have competition." I whispered, my eyes finding him again, only for this time to be stunned to see him glance at me.
Our eyes meet and I quickly tear mine away, clearing my throat and looking at Mira who sighed and lifted her head, the sun beats down on her face.
" I swear we need to lock you and Kaleb in a room so you guys can just fight it out." She snorted.
I didn't want to tell her that I highly doubt we would be 'fighting' and instead he'd be balls deep inside me.
I bit my tongue, ashamed my thoughts strayed that way.
" Who you think would win? My money is on Kaleb." Katrina teased, grinning at me. I rolled my eyes.
"Nah, Bailey has some tricks up her sleeves, I'm sure. So I'd bet Bailey."
I shook my head. I cannot believe my two best friends were trying to bet on who would win a fight between Kaleb and me.
The coach blew the whistle, gesturing for the guys to come over.
" Man he's hard on them." Mira pointed out, staring at her brother in pity. Him being the team captain meant he was suppose to train harder.
Katrina and I nod in agreement. Coach was always one to push the guys to their limit. This time was no different.
The guys huffed and puffed, trying to catch their breaths. Tomorrow is game day and I know their muscles would be achy.
He talked to them and then motioned to the balls on the field. He blew the whistle again and the guys raced to the ball.
" I'd hate to be Kaleb right now," Mira winced as she watch the guys practice the football. I nod agreeing with her. I didn't think I 'd have half the strength he does to be the best.
As we continued to stare at the guys, Kaleb's eyes lift. They fell directly on me and for the next ten minutes he doesn't remove his gaze. Not even when he tackled Ryan to the ground.
Shivering under his stare and biting my lower lip, I take a sneaky glance at Mira to make sure she hadn't noticed her brother's sudden attention on me.
I'm relieved that her eyes were not on us but the other football players. But as my eyes snake up higher, they fell on Katrina who was staring at me knowingly.
I ripped my gaze away, my cheeks flushing as I felt embarrassed.
Did she notice?
Did she see Kaleb staring at me?
Did she see me watching Kaleb?
I nervously chewed the inside of my cheek, lifting my foot on the bench before us and placing my elbow on my knee while my palm held my chin. I stared back at the boys, finding Kaleb's gaze already on me.
Why is he staring at me? He was ignoring me for three days. He even looked like the sight of me revolted him. So what was up with the sudden attention now?
Boys were so strange. From NôvelDrama.Org.
I shook my head and decided to keep my eyes off of him.
" I need to use the bathroom," Katrina said and stood up, stretching her arms over her head. Mira followed suit. " Yeah me too, I've been holding my piss for five minutes now."
Mira looked down at me. " You coming with?"
I shook my head no, not really in the mood to walk to the bathroom. " Nah, I'll stay."
They both nod and told me they will be back soon. As their figures disappear in the school building, my eyes on their own, return to him.
He's not looking at me right now, but focusing on the ball. Ryan passed him the ball and he runs with it, skilfully dodging the players until he got to Stefan, who tackles him.
But something must've gone wrong because I heard the loud groan of pain leaving his lips and reaching my ears. The coach blows his whistle and the players run up to him.
My heart drops and I stand up, looking around to get a better look at him since all the guys blocked my view. The coach yells for them to give Kaleb some air. They scatter around, revealing a bent over Kaleb, holding his ankle.
Ryan and Stefan helped him up and he tested the waters with his foot while speaking to the coach. He nodded and said something to the coach. The coach pats his back and nod.
Ryan looked like he would help more but the coach tells both him and Stefan to go back to training. Ryan looked ready to argue but Kaleb nods and tells him something, making him give up and follow the coaches instructions.
My breath gets stuck in my throat when Kaleb looks up at me and starts limping slightly away from the field, no doubt heading for the lockers to check up on his ankle, or maybe he was going to the nurses office? She was still here.
Either way, I didn't really think much but let my heart lead me. And it lead me to grab my bag and follow after him quickly, needing to know if he was okay or not.
