Kaleb's pov
I took a peek at my sister, my fingers around the steering wheel tightening. " Are you going to continue to give me the silent treatment the entire way home?"
She does not respond, turning away from me and crossing her arms. She was acting childish.
I let out a frustrated puff of air. " This is childish Mirabella, even for you."
There's a long awkward pause after my words and I had thought she wouldn't have responded. But I am wrong.
" Childish is you and Bailey keeping the truth from me." Her tone was bitter and lacked any emotion. She was way pass angry, she was seething silently.
" We were trying to find a way to tell you about us Mira, but we were afraid of how you'd react. Like now." I pointed out in frustration.
I loved my sister, and I knew that she had grown to be annoyed at me for my actions in the past for hurting girls and unknowingly having them come to her. I guess she didn't trust that I could be good to Bailey.
" My reaction is completely justified." She huffed. " Step on it, I want to get home and would like to not have to hear your voice right now."
I flinched. " Mira can you for a second just try to think about what you're doing? You're not only hurting me, you're also hurting Bailey."
The last thing I ever wanted to happen was having Bailey's and Mira's friendship shattered because of me. I never wanted this. I never wanted anyone to be hurt because of me. I never wanted to
come between them.
" Did you two ever think about me when you two got together? No. Instead you had her lie to me and you lied!"
" What are you even talking about?" I snapped, slowing down when I got to our house. I pulled into the driveway and Mira being so mad, opened the door and got out while the car was still rolling.
I let out an annoyed groan and parked the car, getting out and slamming the door. " I never made her lie to you!" I defended.
" Save it!" Mira spat over her shoulder, storming to the house and opening the door with an aggressive force.
I followed her into the house, closing the door behind me. " Mira stop acting like a child and let's talk about this!" I yelled after her and gained the attention of our parents. The faint sound of voices that came from the living room area stopped.
" How about no!" She yelled in anger, stomping up the staircase.
" What is going on?" Mom asked, stepping into the foyer. Her forehead had a crease as she stared at both Mirabella and I. Dad comes to join her, his face more stern than mom's.
Mirabella span around and pointed a finger at me. " Kaleb and Bailey got into a relationship behind my back! They both lied to me and now think I'm being childish for my reaction."
I narrowed my eyes up at her. " Mira you're being unreasonable right now. You act like the world is ending as Bailey and I are together. Why is it so bad that I love her!?"
" It's not because of that I am mad about! If you two had come clean the second it happened I would have been okay! But you two, you fucking both lied to me and kept that shit going for days! All the
while I'm the stupid best friend and stupid sister not knowing that I am a third wheel! I hate liars! And I know for a fact you won't treat her right!"
I stumbled back, flinching as her words spared me through my chest, connecting with my heart painfully.
" Mirabella!" Mom scolded. " I am disappointed in you for saying those words to your brother."
Mira only rolled her eyes. " Really mom? You're on his side? Have you forgotten how many girls you've busted him with? How many talks you've had with him? He's just using Bailey-
" I fucking love her!" I roared, cutting her off. " If you were not a selfish bitch you would've seen that! I have for years but you're so caught up in your own little world you didn't notice!"
" Kaleb." Dad warned, clearly not liking that his two children were arguing.
My shoulders rose and fell as I breath rapidly, unable to remove the fog of frustration and anger in my vision right now. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Mirabella gasped, looking stunned that I had told her off, then her eyes narrowed down on me bitterly. " Selfish? Like you've been for the last few years just thinking with your dick?" She snorted. " Do you know how many tears I had to wipe because of you?"
I recoil, my eyes dropping to her feet in shame. I can't blame Mirabella for not trusting me with Bailey, not when I had been exactly who she spoke about. I had been a bastard, someone that didn't deserve a girl like Bailey.
" I could not have a normal social life because of you. A normal fucking high school life because of you. Everywhere I go, there would be girls tears following after me. Every whore would try to befriend me because of you. Bailey and Kristina was all I had. The only two I felt would never fall for
your stupid charms. The only two I trusted. And now because of you, I can't trust one of them. Because she lied! She lied!"
Every word she spat out continued to hit me brutally until I draw back like she physically attacked me. My heart is squeezing in my chest. An indication that her words were leaving scars.
" You're just going to hurt her like you've done to the others. It's sad she won't see it. Even more sad that I won't be there to wipe her tears."
I lift my eyes to hers and saw the look of disgust on her face. My gut twisted.
Mira shook her head before turning around and walking up the last of the stairs. " I hope you have a good time with her, just don't break her heart too much. After all, she doesn't deserve it and you don't deserve her."
I clenched hands into fists at my sides, not able to fight anymore with her. I promised Bailey that I would get through to my sister but it felt like I would be the one to end up more hurt in this situation.
Could I really make her see how much I love Bailey? Or will she always see me as her playboy brother who can't love anyone?
I deserve to feel love right? I deserve to love too?
" Mira's wrong you know." Dad said. I hadn't noticed he was beside me until he clamped a hand on my shoulder. " A father knows when his kid is in love and I've noticed it for a while. You deserve her Kaleb. You deserve Bailey and she deserves you. Don't let it go." He squeezed my shoulder.
" Your dad is right." Mom whispered, smiling sadly. " Sometimes love can cause rifts, but sometimes those rifts are meant to happen to be learning lessons. Mira will come around. And when she does, she will see how beautiful you and Bailey are together."
