Bailey's pov
The searing pain shot me like a dart as I grasped my foot, clad with socks. I hated running with my shoes and now regret not wearing them, though J doubted they would've protected me much.
"Bailey!" Kaleb yelled with a rose of panic and concern. He raced across the field, barreling toward me with a speed I had never seen him use before.
I clutch my foot, clenching my teeth as I look down at the damage. Blood had now stained my socks red but I could not see the culprit of my wound on my foot. My fingers are painted with the warm wetness of my blood as I try to stop the bleeding.
"Baby," Kaleb falls beside me, his trembling hands reaching out for my foot. I hissed and he froze, looking at me worriedly.
The P.E teacher was beside us and some of the concerned students surrounded us too. " What happened?" The teacher demanded, his eyes scanning the field for any signs of the culprit.
"Something sharp," I wince clutching my foot and Kaleb quickly lifts me into his arms, his eyes also in search of the culprit. Then his eyes narrowed on the spot my foot had just been on and his jaw clenched.
"There's fucking glass in the grass," he sneered angrily. And sure enough, there was glass shards in the grass, barely noticeable but my blood on some pushed it into our vision better.
" Why is there glass on the field?" That shocking question came from Juliet who looked down at my foot worriedly.
"Sir we shouldn't be running on a field that isn't safe," she continued, turning to Kaleb. "You should hurry and bring her to the nurse to get it checked out. There's probably still glass in there."Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
The P. E teacher rushed everyone off the field and said he would alert the school authorities as Kaleb ran with me across the field to the school.
"This is the second time I'm getting hurt today," I whispered as I clung around his neck.
He looks down at me gently, his eyes field with worry. "Do you think those pieces of glass were purposely planted to hurt me?"
I ground my teeth when the pain shot up my leg. Hell. This is going to be a bitch.
Kaleb's lips turned into a line as he frowned. " Could be. But how would they have known you'd be the only one to step on the glass?"
He shoulder opened the nurse's office door and stepped in with me in his arms. The nurse gasped, standing up. "What happened again?" She demanded as Kaleb set me on the bed gently.
"She got hurt again," Kaleb answered her, his eyes dropping to my foot. "This time it's her foot."
She rushed over, her brows drawn into an expression of concern and urgency. She inspected my foot carefully, her lips lining into a frown. She gently removed my sock and reveal the damage the glass had done to my poor foot.
I winced, clutching the edge of the bed and bit into my lip harder to not let out another scream. This one hurt far more than my hand did.
"The wound is deep and there are fragments of glass still embedded in your flesh." She said gravely.
"We need to get these shards out quickly," she murmured, her voice firm as she prepared to remove the shards.
I winced and grabbed Kaleb's hand, squeezing it hard as she carefully extracts the glass pieces out of my skin. I ground my teeth at the pain and Kaleb didn't seem to mind the grip I had on his hand.
In fact he came closer to me, making me rest my head on his shoulder as he soothed his free hand down my back.
When the woman was done removing the glass shards, she then cleaned the wound before bandaging it up while murmuring. "I've done everything to make sure it doesn't get infected but I'll call the medical assistance to bring you to the hospital just as a precaution. I'll have the office call your parents to let them know what's going on."
I nod, fisting Kaleb's shirt. "I'm going with her," Kaleb uttered.
The nurse looked like she was about to argue but thought better of it before nodding. "You'll go anyway." She sighed and turned around to get rid of the bloody tissues.

- At the hospital -
"If you don't get out of my way," a very familiar voice blasted and I clench my eyes in embarrassment. Mom.....
I looked at the doctor sheepishly as my mom pulled the curtains aside harshly, her wide panicked eyes easing with relief instantly when they land on me on the bed.
"Oh thank God," she cried, rushing over to me and not caring that she nearly ran the poor doctor over. She wrapped her arms around me and squeezed me until I tapped out, tapping on her arm as I gasped.
"Mom," I gasped. "I'm dying."
She loosened her hold and Kaleb shot us an amused glance. He had not left my side and stood beside me even when the doctors were tending to me.
"I'm so happy you're okay baby," she breathed. "Your dad is on his way."
"Mom it's just a small wound," I whispered. "It's nothing too serious."
She pulled away and shot me a glare. " A deep wound!" She correctly, looking pissed off. "And the school filled me in on everything. About the gift box, about everything. I told your dad and he has already called your grandma Ryn. Whoever is targeting you, they better count their days."
I winced knowing Grandma Ryn was not to be messed with.
"Mom," I whispered, peeking behind her shoulder to stare at the doctor who looked at her as though she had grown a second head in a matter of minutes. "You don't need to add Grandma Ryn to this. I'm sure she'd much rather spend her days with Grandpa Ace."
Mom shot me a look of disbelief. "You must not know your grandfather very well. He will be definitely joining her. These two will have the best time finding that evil woman or man who is threatening you. Let's just hope your Grandpa Ace doesn't go back to his old ways. You know how much his grandbabies mean to him."
I gulped. I know exactly what she meant. Grandpa Ace was once the leader of a well known Italian mafia and he was seriously not one to be messed with.
