Chapter 471 Jack Came Back
Chapter 471 Jack Came Back
Although Julie didn't say it, Jack already knew what she wanted to ask, so he smiled and shook his head.
Julie felt so much relieved. In the past few months that she lived with Rachel under the same roof, they got along very well. She was just a maid, but Rachel had been so kind to her and even took good care of her. As of this time, she had already regarded Rachel as her own daughter.
She couldn't help worrying upon seeing Rachel lying in bed. Her face was now as white as a sheet. It was as if she had no blood anymore.
After thinking for a while, she turned to Jack and said, "Mr. Fu, please stay here with Miss Shen for a while. I'll go home first to cook some pork liver for her. It's good to replenish her blood."
"Okay, go ahead." Jack didn't know much about nutritious food. But as long as it was good for Rachel, he would definitely agree.
Not long after Julie left, Rachel slowly opened her eyes. Finally, she had woken up. Feeling a little weak, she closed her eyes again and called Lea's name. The next second, someone held her hand. However, she could feel that it wasn't Lea's hand. She slowly opened her eyes again and saw Jack sitting beside the bed. Her expression changed all of a sudden.
Seeing him safe and sound, Rachel breathed a sigh of relief. But anger also gradually rose from her heart. She withdrew her hand, turned around, and asked coldly, "Why are you here?"
"I just came back from the business trip." Jack choked up.
But since Rachel was overwhelmed by mixed emotions, she didn't notice it. She retorted, "You don't need to tell me. Wherever you go has nothing to do with me."
Her words sent bitterness into Jack's heart. He couldn't hide the sadness on his face. He opened his mouth to say something, but on second thought, he decided to just keep it to himself. Instead, he asked, "Rachel, do you still feel uncomfortable?"
Rachel didn't answer. She closed her eyes, and tears slowly streamed down her face.
The truth was, she wanted to ask Jack where he had been in the past two days, and why he didn't answer his phone. But she couldn't pluck up her courage to do so. She was afraid that she would hear something she didn't like to hear.
Before, she used to look down upon those wives who, in order to keep their marriages, turned a blind eye when their husbands had an affair. She couldn't help thinking that it would be better to end such an unhappy marriage as soon as possible.
After all, she had a stable job with good pay. If she was alone, she could live any way she wanted. No one would bother her, and she didn't need to care for a husband who didn't love her at all.
Since Rachel hadn't fallen in love with a man before, she didn't care that much.
But now, she had fully understood the reality of married life.
Rachel stayed in the hospital for one night. The next morning, the doctor checked on her condition and advised that she could already be discharged.
Fortunately, she was at the hospital when the accident happened. The baby in her belly was safe and sound.
Jack took Rachel's shoes from the shoe cabinet and put them on the edge of the bed. He reached out to hold her ankle, wanting to help her put on her shoes. But she shook her legs and dodged him.
Rachel lowered her head and said in a flat voice, "I can wear my shoes without your help. If I let myself get used to your help all the time, it will be too difficult for me when you suddenly disappear."
She said it jokingly, but it didn't sound pleasant in Jack's ears. Although he didn't say anything, his eyes darkened as he stood up and walked to the window. Nobody knew what was in his mind.
Rachel looked at his back. She opened her mouth to say something, but she couldn't say a word.
Perhaps her words sounded a little tentative. That was why Jack didn't respond. Now, she couldn't help thinking that he might disappear again in the future without any words and suddenly reappear when she was asleep.
It felt like the two days that he vanished was just a part of her dream.
Rachel smiled wryly and thought to herself, 'Maybe, I will become the kind of person I despise before.'
She imagined herself staying in a big empty house, waiting for her husband to come back.
After a moment of silence, Jack turned around. He saw that Rachel had already put on her shoes, and she was standing beside the bed, packing up. He quickly walked up to her and took the bag. He said softly, "Let me take this."
"No, thanks. I can..." But before Rachel could finish her words, Jack held her shoulders and pressed her to sit on the sofa. He then said sternly, "If you don't want me to get angry, just sit here."
Rachel was a little stunned. Meeting his gaze, she bit her lower lip but didn't say anything.
She couldn't understand why, but she had a feeling that Jack was hiding something from her after he disappeared for two days.
The car slowly stopped in the yard. As soon as Rachel got out of the car, a delicious aroma filled her nostrils. She guessed that Julie must be busy preparing something in the kitchen.
She subconsciously rubbed her stomach. All of a sudden, she felt hungry.
When she was in the hospital, Jack had tried to feed her, but she refused because of anger.
She looked at her belly, pouted, and whispered, "Baby, I'm sorry."
Rachel had just entered the house when she heard rapid footsteps from the living room. Not long after, a little girl ran to her while Lea's voice rang out from behind. "Rita, slow down! Be careful. If you hit the baby in Rachel's belly, you will suffer a lot from me." RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Rita slowed down in an instant and trotted to Rachel. She then opened her arms and tightly held Rachel's legs. Raising her little head, she asked with a grievance, "Aunt Rachel, will I hurt your baby if I hug you like this?"
"No." Rachel gently rubbed Rita's head. She then looked at Lea, who was standing behind Rita, and asked, "What are you doing here?" "Of course, we want to welcome you. We also want to take care of you. By the way, how are you and Jack?" Lea's question was asked in a very low voice.
Rachel turned her head to look at Jack, who was taking out something from the trunk.
It was as if he was holding something so precious that all his attention was in it.
If this was in the past, he would have already been standing beside her. But now, he didn't even look at her.
Two days ago, they were so intimate. At Anna's wedding, he promised her that he would show her his love truly. She didn't expect that he would suddenly disappear after that. He hadn't even started to show her his true feelings.
With a bitter smile on her face, Rachel answered, "I don't know. Nothing has changed."
"So, are you going to be like this forever?" Lea sounded like she really cared a lot about Rachel and Jack's relationship.
Holding Rita's hand, Rachel walked into the living room and said in a low voice, "Well, just let things be like this for now. I'm sure we can talk about it when it's time."
Lea looked at her and snorted, "If you don't want to ask him, let me. Don't you feel uncomfortable with your current situation? If you want to end your relationship, do it as soon as possible. If you don't, please go back to the way you were before. I want to see the Jack and Rachel that Henry and I were so envious before."
She then turned around and walked towards Jack.
But before she could go a little further, Rachel grabbed her arm and pretended to be angry. "If you talk to him now, let's forget that we are best friends."
Lea rolled her eyes and glared at Rachel. "Fine! You win."
The lunch that Julie prepared was delicious, but none of them enjoyed it.
Lea wanted to say something, but Rachel was watching her, so she felt like she had been on pins and needles all throughout lunch. As soon as she put down her chopsticks, she held Rita's hand and said, "We're leaving now."
"Miss Ye, don't you want to stay with Miss Shen a little longer?" Julie asked.
Lea glimpsed at Rachel. "Never mind, Julie. We need to go. Otherwise, she will break our friendship."
"What do you mean?" Julie asked in confusion.
Lea didn't answer anymore. Only she and Rachel knew what it meant.
Rachel glanced at Jack, who was quietly sitting as if he didn't hear anything. Although she felt a little uncomfortable, she still reached out her hand and gently patted Rita on the head. "Just come back to play with me next time when you have time, okay?"
When Lea and Rita left, Rachel looked at Jack again. He was just staring at the dishes on the table.
She pulled the chair beside him, slowly sat down, and whispered, "Jack, can we talk?"
