Anníe was momentarily stunned at Steven's words. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over her. The heat in her heart, which had been so passionate, was forced to cool completely.
She stared blankly at Steven.
She reached out, grabbing his hand and holding on tightly. Her eyes shimmered with tears as she looked at him.
Her voice filled with a poignant vulnerability. "Steven, have you decided you don't want me anymore? Have you truly forgotten the beautiful moments we shared?"
She thought about their beautiful past. Memories she had replayed in her mind almost every day. Yet, Steven had been able to forget it all and move on to a new relationship so easily.
And that nickname, "stupid girl", that he had just used so affectionately. When they were together, he had never spoken to her in that tone.
It was the kind of affection that ran deep, the kind that warmed someone to the very core.
She was consumed with jealousy. Mona had stolen everything that should have been hers. Steven yanked his hand away from Annie with force, stepping back to put even more space
⚫ between them.
Annie stood frozen in place. She stared at Steven who no longer had any trace of her in his eyes. It hit her like a wave of cold reality. She blinked, dazed, as she watched him.
"I get it now. You're really heartless, Steven. When you say you've moved on, you mean it. All these years, it's just me who is still stuck in the past." Annie's face turned pale as she recalled the years of hard work she had dedicated to her daily streaming, each step leading her to this point in her life.
She thought she had figured everything out by now. But instead, she had been foolish, refusing to face reality. It was utterly tragic.
And now, coming to Steven had only led to her humiliation. She had placed herself at such a disadvantage.
Taking a deep breath, she looked up at him and forced a smile. “You really love Mona, don't you?"
"Yes, I do. I love her very much." Steven's eyes lit up when he said Mona's name.
Annie felt a pang in her heart as she gazed at Steven, who was more mature and charming
than he had been a few years ago. With a strained smile, she asked, "Do you love her as much as you once loved me?"
She wasn't ready to give up until she got an answer from him.
Perhaps this was a form of self-torture. But until she heard his response, she couldn't let go.
Steven replied in a low voice, "In my heart, Mona is one of a kind. My feelings for her are equally unique. She is my greatest love in this life." Upon hearing this, Annie's face turned even paler. She opened her mouth to say something,
but words failed her.
She understood the meaning behind Steven's words. He was saying he loved Mona more than he ever loved her. Their past was just that-past. Mona was his future, the only one in his life.
“Alright... I understand. Just pretend I was never here today." She clumsily pressed the button
for the elevator.
Until she stepped into the elevator, she didn't look at Steven once. She feared seeing the callousness in his eyes and was terrified of breaking down in tears.
After the elevator doors closed, Steven frowned. He hadn't expected that Annie would still be holding onto the past.

The next day, Skylar accompanied Janine to the hospital for her annual check-up. Since Janine hadn't done it this year yet, they decided to go together while fasting.
The hospital wasn't too crowded in the morning, and the check-up was quick. They finished all the necessary tests around 9:00 am.
After eating, they rested in the waiting area for various test results. After chatting for a while, they both turned to their phones.
Janine began handling some work matters. Meanwhile, Skylar was chatting with Gloria.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
