It was no surprise that Joe was likely meeting with Vera. Skylar gave a soft, self -deprecating laugh and closed her eyes again.

It might be best to cancel tomorrow’s wedding photo shoot. She gathered her thoughts and quickly fell asleep.

After leaving the room, Joe went to the hotel rooftop. The wind was a bit strong up there. He lit a cigarette and took slow drags, watching the smoke drift away with the evening breeze.

About ten minutes later, he made a call to someone in Jipsburg. “Do you know what Aiken has been up to lately?”

“Aiken? He seems to be out of Jispsburg at the moment. He’s been abroad for the past couple of days. Someone asked him for a favor, but he postponed it until about ten days later. I’m not sure which country he’s in right now.”

Joe was silent for a few minutes, taking a deep drag on his cigarette. “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. Are you looking for Aiken for something, Mr. Martin?”

Joe smirked slightly. “It’s nothing.”

He slipped the phone into his pocket.

Suddenly, he heard some noise behind him. He glanced back, and his eyes darkened when he saw the person.

“Joe? What… What are you doing here? What a coincidence,” Vera said.

Vera was visibly surprised when she saw Joe. She hadn’t intended to run into Joe. She had assumed he and Skylar were already resting.

Tonight, she felt especially disoriented and restless. The thought of Skylar and Joe lying together made her uneasy.

Joe shouldn’t be swayed by Skylar’s influence.

Feeling frustrated at the lack of opportunity to see Joe alone because of

Skylar’s presence, she found this unexpected meeting almost serendipitous.

It seemed fate was on her side, reinforcing the notion that she and Joe were meant to be together.

“What are you doing here?” Joe asked, taking a drag from his cigarette.

Noticing Joe’s somber expression, which suggested he was in a bad mood, Vera raised an eyebrow. She thought he must be upset with Skylar.

Given the significant differences between them and their differing values, it was normal for them to have conflicts over time. Such a relationship wouldn’t last long.

Ultimately, she believed she was the one most suited for Joe. They were clearly meant to be together.

“Since I arrived here, I’ve been having insomnia. It reminds me of a few years ago when we stayed at the same hotel. Back then, we also happened to meet unexpectedly.

“Despite not knowing each other’s plans, we ended up at the same hotel in a foreign country and found ourselves in the same place. Thinking about it, it’s hard not to feel a bit nostalgic.” Vera said

softly, her voice carrying a hint of sadness as she reflected on their shared past.

Nostalgia and yearning often accompanied thoughts of the past.

Joe simply nodded and didn’t say anything more.

Vera bit her lip, feeling that Joe had become even more inscrutable after a few years. He had always been good at hiding his thoughts, but now he was even more difficult to read. Not only was he hard to understand, but he also evoked

a sense of unease.

One thing she was sure of was that he was in a very bad mood. He probably didn’t pay much attention to what she had just said.

Vera glanced at the ring she wore on her finger, which she had put on before flying out from Jipsburg.

It was a gift from Molly, who had advised her to remove it whenever Skylar was around.

She moved in closer to Joe. Her gaze was drawn to his long fingers holding

the cigarette.

His hands were even more striking than those of the male celebrity she had seen online, the one constantly promoting his perfect hands. In the soft glow of the night, it was all too easy for her imagination to run wild.

She reached out and took his hand. “Can we go back to the past?” NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
