Chapter 0424
Chapter 0424
Dorrington police had called Sonia several times urging her to return to Dorrington to cooperate with the investigation. But she knew that it would be very difficult for her once she returned.
Alex would not help her anymore, and Xavier even less so. As for Quentin, after knowing she had been summoned by the police, he had been eager to cut ties immediately.
The only one who could help her now was Darius.
Sonia pursed her lips. After some self-reflection, she headed for the company entrance.
As soon as she entered, she saw a girl standing at the front desk, very thin with almost transparent white skin, the kind of person who would easily evoke a protective instinct.
Sonia couldn’t help but stare, and Bella, feeling her gaze, looked back at her.
The girl had a very pure and clear gaze, but Sonia couldn’t bring herself to like it. She even subconsciously felt a bit repulsed by it.
Foolish, silly, and pretentious.
She decisively shifted her gaze back to the front desk and said, "Hello, I'm here to see Darius."
"Do you have an appointment?" the receptionist asked.
Sonia could not help but raise her chin. "I'm his friend, and I have something very important to discuss with him. He’s brought me here before."
Bella had just started to leave, but paused at Sonia’s words, puzzled, and turned back. She looked at Sonia's arrogant figure. She frowned, blinked, and hesitantly headed over.
She stopped beside Sonia, and hesitantly asked, "Hello, do you know Darius?"
Sonia was caught off guard by her voice. Bella's voice was as clear and pure as her appearance, refreshing like the clear sky after rain. It made people feel comfortable just listening to her.
Sonia looked at her with a hint of displeasure. She really couldn’t bring herself to like Bella's demeanor, she was too delicate and fake.
"Sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet,” Bella said, trying to explain, as she had never seen Sonia in Darius’ circle of friends. “I'm Darius's—"
"What does my relationship with Darius have to do with you?" Sonia interrupted, her tone dismissive as she sneered. Displeasure flashed in her eyes as she looked at Bella arrogantly.
Bella felt Sonia's hostility and frowned. "Are you very close to Darius?"
Sonia smiled mysteriously and said, "Yes, we are very close." She brushed past Bella and headed straight for the elevator. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Bella stood where she’d been left, looking hesitant.

The closing ceremony of the summit ended in the afternoon, and the organizers were busy arranging a dinner, insisting that everyone must attend.
Originally, Candice wanted to find an excuse to refuse, but Angela patted her shoulder and said, "It's the last time, just endure it a bit longer."
Yondu also sighed as he came over. "I don't want to go either. The final dinner is always meaningless, and dealing with all the drinking is really annoying."
Candice couldn’t drink because she was pregnant, so if she went, she could only sit there.
Moreover, Quentin, the special guest, would be there. Whenever he was present, Candice and Burning Star would inevitably be ridiculed.
Candice shook her head and sent a message to Hanley to report that the summit had ended.
Originally, Hanley was supposed to return to Dorrington and but with Redshade tender on hand, he could only stay in Solaris.
Hanley replied quickly with a voice note. But not about the summit. It was about Jensen.
Candice knew Hanley was meant to be at the construction site, and his voice was low in the message. "I checked, and Burning Star shouldn't have any conflicts of interest in Solaris. We only took on two projects in Solaris, both of which were signed directly. So, the possibility of Quentin targeting Burning Star is slim."
Candice's thoughts grew heavy at the news. It didn’t make much sense.
But she didn’t say anything. Now that she had asked Hanley, and Hanley couldn’t find anything, she could only take it step by step.
She was thinking to herself, when another voice message from Hanley came through. This time more like an admonition. "Rest at the hotel after the summit ends. The weather in Solaris hasn't been good recently. I'm almost done here, I'll come over to accompany you then." He paused for a moment. "To accompany you and help with the Redshade proposal."
Candice chatted with Hanley absentmindedly, and Angela patted her from behind. "Let's go, it's time for dinner. "Who are you chatting with?” she teased. “You're hiding in a corner. Are you afraid of being seen by me?"
"It's Hanley. It's about work."
The dinner was being held at the Pearl Grand Hotel. Angela was about to call an uber with Candice, when she was suddenly called away by the boss of her studio.
She could only say goodbye to Candice regretfully.
Apart from Angela, Candice didn’t know anyone else. She was about to open the uber app to hire a car when a black Bentley stopped in front of her. However, when the window rolled down, it was not Sawyer, but Alex.
His expression was plain as he looked at Candice. "Get in, we'll go pick up the old man first."
Old Mr. Elysian was going for a checkup nearby today.
Candice had been a little worried about Shawn’s health, so she accompanied Alex. When the results came out, all his indicators were fine, just some common underlying illnesses.
Candice felt relieved seeing the results and tagged along to take Shawn back to the hotel.
She had originally thought that Alex would go to the Pearl Grand Hotel for dinner, but she didn’t expect him to park the car.
Candice looked at him. "Aren't we still going to dinner?"
Alex's footsteps slowed, but his attitude was indifferent. "How many people do you think will actually show up tonight?" He sounded convinced of what he said, but after taking only two steps, he stopped and looked back at Candice, asking without much emotion. "Could you be a bit more mindful of your pregnancy?"
Candice knew that pregnant women should avoid alcohol, but at such gatherings, drinking was inevitable. Even if Candice did not drink, it would not be good to be surrounded by the smell.
She didn’t say anything else, just turned and went back to her room.

During dinner, Shawn called and invited her to join him. Thinking that it might be hard for Barox to get dinner, she declined the old man's invitation and had the front desk send up the meal, tidied up for Barox, and then went back to her room to eat.
Before she could finish half of her meal, she received a voice message from Angela, full of frustration.
"Candice, you're so bad. You didn't come to the gathering, and you didn't even tell me. Do you know that less than half of the expected guests came? Now it's just the few of us left, all alone!"
Candice held her phone in silence. Alex had been right about the party.
But before she could put down her phone, Jackson called her. She answered. His tone was serious and heavy, and as soon as he spoke, Candice's heart sank.
"You may need to come back soon. Sonia has already hired a lawyer, and they’re a well-known top lawyer. She says she's going to sue you for defamation."
