My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0430

Chapter 0430

Candice's words were directed at Alex as she probed him.

However, Alex remained calm, just lifting his eyes slightly as he asked, "Is that so?"

"Do you know who it is?" she pressed.

The person who could get Quil to defend Sonia and make her say such things must have a high status and position.

Candice had racked her brain, trying to think of anyone she knew in Solaris who was associated with Alex, but couldn't come up with anyone. So she could only ask him directly.

Alex looked at her, his black eyes deep and calm. After a while, he blinked lightly. "I don't know."

Candice stared at him for a moment, not seeing any unusual emotions. She bit her lip and looked away.

Harley asked several more questions, and Candice answered each one, all similar to what was written in the materials.

"All right, I understand the specific situation now. If I have any more questions later, I'll come to you again." After Harley finished speaking, she handed something to Candice. "Some procedural manuals for you to look over."

Candice thanked her and prepared to leave. Just as she was about to go out, Zoe came in with an envelope in her hand. "Ms. Zott, the things have been brought over."

Without lifting her head, Harley said, "Give them to Mr. Elysian."

Candice paused for a moment when she heard this, realizing why Alex hadn't left yet. She pursed her lips and left the room.

In the office, after Harley finished her work, she looked up at Alex and pushed her glasses up. "Mr. Elysian, do you have any more questions? If not, I have other matters to attend to."

Alex's expression remained unchanged as he said simply, "What do you think your chances are compared to Quil?"

Harley paused, not expecting him to ask such a question.

However, as Alex was currently a major client of the Southern Cross Firm, and even though she was puzzled, she still said, "I won't say it's one hundred percent, but I take responsibility for all cases."

Candice waited outside for about ten minutes before Alex came out.

She pursed her lips and walked towards him. He saw her and slowed his pace.

Candice also didn't waste time and directly asked him, "Weren't you in Solaris? Why are you in Dorrington, and why are you here?"

Alex's black eyes dropped slightly for a second but quickly lifted again, looking ahead expressionlessly. "I came back temporarily to sign a contract. Aether Corporation wants to change law firms."

"Did you arrange for Ms. Zott to be at Aether the other day?" Candice asked.

Only now did she realize how many coincidences there were.

Why else would Sawyer specifically call her that night to ask her to go to Aether Corporation the next day? Why else would she happen to meet Harley?

It was all too coincidental.

She followed Alex out of the building, and stopped in front of his car.

Candice's emotions surged in her heart. She looked up at Alex, her eyes clear, and her tone serious. "Alex, if it was you who arranged this, I am very grateful."

She meant what she said.

After all, the best lawyers in Dorrington were all in the Southern Cross Firm and Harley was among the best. With her help, Candice felt less stressed.

Although there were many messy things between her and Alex, at least in this matter, she genuinely appreciated him.

Alex casually unlocked the car and turned to look at her. His gaze was distant, whatever emotions he felt difficult to discern.

He glanced at her for a moment, then casually averted his gaze, his voice cold and clear, "You're overthinking."

Candice didn't say anything more. Whether it had been Alex’s plan or not, she had said what needed to be said.

With that, she turned and left. Alex stood still for a moment before getting into the car.

In the shop across the street, two people had been secretly watching them.

Sonia looked resentful, while Quil had a cautious look in his narrowed eyes.

He tapped his finger on the table thoughtfully and said, "It seems they're serious about hiring Harley."

Sonia turned her head. "What's wrong, Mr. Lawson? Are you afraid of Harley's competence? Why did you drag me here as soon as you heard her name?"

Quil's displeasure was evident on his face as he warned sharply, "Ms. Summers, mind your words!"

"I was just teasing since you seemed nervous. It was just a joke," she retorted.

Sonia was also irritated. When she went to see Darius that day, he had arranged for her to meet Quil without a word.

She had thought Darius might care about her a bit, so she had wanted him to accompany her back to Dorrington City. But Darius had simply handed her over to Quil and left her alone.

And Quil clearly looked down on her. Especially after meeting Candice last night, he still had the nerve to blame her for talking too much.

Sonia gritted her teeth and felt extremely annoyed.

However, she couldn't vent her frustration too blatantly in front of Quil, especially since she still needed him to handle the lawsuit. If he got angry, she could only smile and say a few soothing words.

-

Candice stayed in Dorrington City for two days, spending almost all her time on Sonia's lawsuit. The trial date was notified on Saturday night, and Harley was right. Quil's idea was to resolve it quickly, so the time was set for next Wednesday morning.

After hearing this, Yana said, "You guys are moving so fast. How come I feel like I've only been back for two days, and everything is already settled?" Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

Hanley, looking at Candice's visibly thinner face due to exhaustion, lowered his head and said, "Everyone has been working too hard during this period. Let's rest well during the New Year."

Only then did Candice realize that New Year was only a month away. But whether this New Year could be celebrated well remained unknown.

Candice stared at the night outside the window as her thoughts slowed down.

"Hey, Candice!" Yana suddenly exclaimed in surprise, leaning over. "Why do I feel like your belly looks like you're pregnant?"

Candice was stunned and followed Yana's gaze to her belly, which was flat and even looked a bit empty under her coat.

She didn't sleep well that night and dreamt about many things.

There was Joe, Yvonne, Henry, and even Alex— the Alex she had just met.

When she woke up in the morning and was still tidying up, there was an urgent knock on the door.

Candice opened the door. Yana stood outside, looking very anxious.

She smelled of alcohol and hadn't changed out of her high heels, but she was panting and said to Candice, "Candice, when I came back from the bar, I heard someone say that a woman jumped off a building at the hospital. The description sounded a bit like your mother…"
