Chapter 0432
Chapter 0432
Hanley let out a soft sigh and dropped his smile.
The others had gone in different directions upon exiting the hospital, leaving only the two of them in the entire villa.
Hanley lowered his gaze to look at Candice, a flicker of pity passing through his eyes. He spoke gently, "Don't worry too much. Things will get better soon."
Candice's fork pierced the poached egg. The white split open, and the smooth yolk flowed out. It was a perfect soft-boiled egg.
Lowering her eyes to the broken egg, she asked in a subdued tone, "Do you think I can win this time?"
"You will," Hanley replied without hesitation.
Looking up at him, she inquired, "Are you just trying to comfort me?"
"Yes, but not only that." He fixed his gaze on her eyes, his tone solemn as he continued, "Candice, you need to know, you were right from the beginning, so you won't lose."
"But Yvonne jumped off the building," Candice finally uttered after a long pause. "Am I too stubborn?"
She was so fixated on getting an answer, and it had led Yvonne to lose her senses and jump off the building.
Just the thought of Yvonne kneeling in that bizarre posture, banging her head against the railing repeatedly while asking if she was satisfied, made Candice feel like a heavy weight pressing down on her, making it hard to breathe.
Since leaving the hospital, she had been trying hard to suppress her emotions, afraid of breaking down.
Yvonne’s deranged appearance had frightened her.
Sitting across from her, Hanley clearly saw the confusion and pain in Candice's eyes. He swallowed and said, "Candice, you are indeed stubborn, but you are also brave." After a moment's pause, he added, "Your grandfather would be very proud to see you like this."
Candice's hand holding the fork trembled slightly. She lowered her head, staring at the noodles in her bowl, biting her lip tightly.
She wasn't in a good state. She barely touched her food and went upstairs to rest.
But she couldn't sleep either. She decided to search for more cases involving Quil to distract herself.
Around 4 p.m. a message popped up on Whatsapp.
Angela had added her to a group chat, along with Yondu and a few others.
It was a message from Yondu, specifically mentioning Candice. "Mr. Bruce will reach the airport at 10 am tomorrow. Are you going to fetch him?"
Candice remained silent for a moment before replying with a simple, "Yes."
Going to the airport to pick up Jensen was something she had already discussed with Alex, and it couldn't be delayed. Moreover, it was also part of her job at Burning Star Studio.
Candice pinched her temple and got up to pack her bags. There wasn't much to pack, as her suitcase remained almost untouched.
Her flight was at 7 p.m. Candice dragged her luggage downstairs, coincidentally meeting with Ryan and the others returning.
"Are you leaving tonight?" Nadia asked.
"Yes, Jensen will arrive at the airport tomorrow morning."
"Then let the Boss take you. It's already dark outside, and it's not easy to get a cab around here."
As she finished speaking, Candice's phone rang. It was Alex.
He spoke as soon as he answered, "7 p.m. flight?"
Candice remained silent, waiting for his next words.
She heard his cold and deep voice say, "Sawyer will come to pick you up. We should discuss the matter regarding Jensen again."
She fell silent for a moment. "Okay."
After informing Hanley and the others, Candice carried her suitcase outside without letting them accompany her. This way, she could quietly contemplate things on her own.
Sawyer arrived promptly. As he got out of the car, he opened the rear door for Candice while taking her luggage to the trunk.
After Candice got into the car, she wasn't surprised to see Alex there, as he also had to go to Solaris.
However, Alex's eyebrows furrowed when he saw her pale face.
"Do you have anything to say about Jensen?" Candice asked, seemingly unaware of Alex's gaze.
"Specific details will be provided by Sawyer. He will give you a report on Jensen's recent activities and preferences," Alex replied.
Candice nodded and looked at Sawyer, who had just gotten into the car. "Please give it to me now. We still have some time before we reach the airport."
Sawyer glanced at Alex involuntarily. Seeing no objection from him, he took out a document from his briefcase and handed it to Candice.
After thanking him, she began to flip through the document, her eyes focused solely on it.
Alex didn't disturb her. He lowered his head to look at his phone, seemingly exchanging messages with someone.
The atmosphere in the car was extremely quiet, with only the sound of Candice flipping through the pages and Sawyer even softened his breath while driving.
It wasn't until Alex's phone suddenly played a voice message that the silence was broken. It was Harley's voice.
Candice raised her head. "Are you chatting with Ms. Zott?"
"Yes." Alex calmly turned off his phone screen. "It's about one of Aether Corporation's previous cases."
Candice lowered her gaze and didn't speak further. After a while, she said, "Ms. Zott is a very responsible lawyer."
He chuckled softly. "She's the top lawyer at Southern Cross Firm, what did you expect?"Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
"So, I'm still very grateful to you," she said, ignoring whether he would continue the conversation or not. She shifted her gaze to the night outside and pursed her lips.
"What for?" Alex looked at her face.
She paused and said, "Thank you for the ride."
Alex's eyebrows lifted slightly, a faint laugh escaping his throat, barely audible to Candice.
-
By the time they arrived in Solaris, it was already very late, so they went straight back to the previous hotel.
During check-in, only suites on Alex's floor were available. Exhausted, Candice didn't bother arguing and took the room she was given.
Early the next morning, as she finished getting ready to leave, there was a knock on the door.
Sawyer was waiting outside. "Mr. Elysian asked me to remind you that you can leave now."
Jensen's plane was scheduled to arrive at ten, and luckily, it wasn't delayed.
Instead of going to pick up Jensen directly, they had arranged to briefly meet with Jensen's assistant beforehand. Both parties had agreed upon this, and they would only have ten minutes with Jensen.
Jensen looked very different from Quentin. His appearance matched his personality. He had a square-face and thick eyebrows, and a wheatish complexion, making him look rather difficult to approach.
His assistant led him straight towards them. Candice adjusted her state of mind, took out the prepared documents, and got straight to the point, "Hello, Mr. Bruce. I am from Burning Star Studio. Here are the specific details about Burning Star Studio and Aether Corporation. We would like you to take a look."
While the assistant took the documents from her, Jensen showed little reaction. His sharp gaze scrutinized her. "Hanley's studio?"
"Yes, we..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Candice was suddenly interrupted by a girl running towards them from a distance, joyfully shouting, "Daddy!"
The girl ran fast but with poor aim, and she was unable to stop herself as she dashed straight towards Candice.
