Chapter 165

Chapter 165

Zane was quite generous. “No problem, Ms. Renault. When the time comes, just bring your friend.

I’ll take care of the ticket.”

“Thank you, Mr. Clark.” Candice did not act coy, signaling the waiter to come and take their orders.

During the meal, Candice subtly brought up–Various topics, not explicitly discussing work but

inquiring about Blue Artifact.

She felt fortunate that she had learned a lot about exhibitions from her previous experience with

Hanley. The knowledge allowed her to engage in a seamless conversation with Zane.

Zane was quite surprised. “Ms. Renault, I didn’t expect you to have such knowledge about art

exhibitions. It’s quite unexpected.”

“I have a friend who works in this field. I’ve learned a bit from him.” Candice replied without any

change in her expression.

Zane nodded. “No wonder.”

The meal was enjoyable and agreeable for both. Just after they finished, Candice received a call

from Sonia.

She couldn’t help a twitch, but she held in her temper and took the call. Sonia’s anxious voice came

through to her. “Candice, come to Silverstone Hospital now! Something happened to Mr.

Matthias!”

Candice’s heart sank. “What happened?”

“I don’t know, but he seems to be allergic to mangoes. When we were eating, he accidentally had some

mangoes and fainted!”

It took Candice half an hour to reach Silverstone Hospital, and it was the fastest she could get

there.

As she got out of her car in the parking lot, she heard someone else also do so. It was Alex.

His manner was cold and sharp, and it seemed like he had a chilling aura.

Seeing Candice, his expression was terrifying. He stared at her with his icy cold eyes and spat out, “Did

you do it on purpose or are you so stupid that you couldn’t even handle this right?”

Candice halted. “It was Sonia who took matters into her own hands.”

“I don’t care for explanations, only results.” Alex said sharply.

Candice’s hands involuntarily tightened at her sides. She straightened her back and in milarly cold

tone, said. “The result was caused by Sonia. You should go ask her.”

She had stopped Sonia, but Sonia felt she was deliberately targeting her. With Alex backing Sonia

1. up. what could she do?

Alex’s cold gaze remained fixed on Candice. After a while, he walked towards the hospital. His black

shirt gradually blended into the night until Candice couldn’t see him anymore.

Candice stood there for a while before heading towards the hospital.

They couldn’t afford for anything to happen to Mr. Matthias.

By the time she reached the emergency department, Alex was already discussing the situation with the

doctors.

Sonia stood to the side, head lowered, not daring to speak.

Conrad had a severe mango allergy, almost always going into anaphylactic shock whenever he came

into contact with mangoes.

The dinner that Sonia had arranged included mango as an ingredient, leading to Conrad’s sudden

collapse.

The doctor assured them that the timely arrival and treatment meant that the exposure posed no

major issues, and he would recover with a night of rest and intravenous fluids.

“Mr. Elysian, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I didn’t know about Mr. Matthias‘ mango allergy.” Sonia said with a

mournful expression. “I shouldn’t have come tonight. But Candice said she was going to

meet Mr. Clark. I should have been with her. I’m sorry.”

At Sonia’s words, Alex’s gaze turned sharp as he looked at Candice. Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

Candice’s eyes narrowed. With these few words from Sonia, the blame shifted to her for the

mistake.

And Alex, most likely, would believe it.

Candice did not even have the desire to explain. She just looked away.

As expected. Alex’s tone turned icy as he spoke. “You better have a good reason.”
