Chapter 183

Chapter 183

Candice enjoyed a peaceful night’s sleep and woke up early the next morning at around 7 a.m.

Nadia was still in deep slumber, prompting Candice to rise quietly from the bed.

She hadn’t been to the hospital in a while and needed to go today to alleviate Joe’s concerns.

Upon descending the stairs, she found the living room deserted, likely because everyone was still

asleep after the previous night’s late gathering.

Stepping into the yard. Candice noticed Hanley engaged in a phone call, his back turned to her.

The sound of the door creaking alerted him, and he turned around as he ended the call.

Approaching Candice, he asked, “Up so early?”

“I need to check on my grandpa at the hospital,” she replied.

“Alright. I’m heading in that direction for a client meeting. I’ll give you a ride,” Hanley offered.

Candice initially hesitated, not wanting to impose, but Hanley was already moving toward the

garage.

The villa was large and well–situated, but its interior gave the impression of a newly purchased

property, barely lived in.

As they walked to the garage, Candice asked, “Did you acquire this villa after coming back to

Dorrington?”

Hanley casually responded, “No. My mother bought it as my future wedding home.”

“It seems your mother has plans ahead,” Candice observed.

Hanley responded with a hum but did not elaborate. Candice didn’t press further after noticing his

hesitancy to discuss the subject.

They reached the hospital by 8 a.m. The entrance was already bustling with activity.

Before stepping out of the car, Candice mentioned, “I’ll pick up my car from the hotel later and

then go to Northdale. I might come back to the villa late.”

Candice knew she couldn’t immediately relocate to the old house in Northdale.

Hanley had suggested she continue staying at his villa for convenience, especially with the ongoing

financial expo.

“Take care,” Hanley advised, though Candice sensed an unusual tone in his response.

She frowned briefly before exiting the car.

Joe’s condition remained the same–stable but requiring a liquid diet. Candice had composed herself,

determined not to become overly emotional in front of him.

She tenderly cleaned his face and massaged his limbs, reassuring him, “Grandpa, don’t worry about

me. Everything’s settled online. Just focus on getting better, and we’ll head home once you’re well.”

Joe’s fingers twitched, as if in response to her words.

After the doctor’s rounds, no new developments were reported.

Candice was brought aside by the doctor and asked, “Have you decided on conservative treatment or

surgery?”

Candice closed her eyes. She pondered for a moment, asking, “Has Dr. Sui arrived in Dorrington? Can

I meet with him?”

“Dr. Sui will be here tomorrow morning for a seminar. I’ll ask for you, but don’t get your hopes up.” the

doctor softly cautioned.

Candice struggled to keep her cool and thanked the doctor.

She headed to the hotel to fetch her car after caring for Joe through lunch.

Instead of going straight to Northdale, she stopped at the bank. She had a fixed deposit but was

hesitant to touch it since she was afraid Joe might require more money.

Her available funds totaled little more than six hundred thousand.

Candice didn’t spend much time at the bank before leaving for the old house.

The old house needed extensive repairs. She had pre–arranged for contractors to fix the house. and

they had managed to complete only a portion of the work by that afternoon.

At 6 p.m., as Candice bid farewell to the workers, she received a call from Kayla.

She went on to say, “We’re having a team–building dinner tonight at the Southern Gin Hotel.”

“You guys have fun,” Candice murmured, her eyes downcast. “I’m not going.”

“But it’s an official event, and even the chairman might be there.”

Kayla’s insinuation was clear. Daniel usually expected Candice’s presence at such events.

Nevertheless, Candice stated firmly, “Mr. Elysian told me to focus on my family matters before returning

to work. Plus, I’ve already handed in my resignation.”

Kayla understood Candice’s stance. She didn’t insist any further and ended the conversation.

Shortly after, Kayla sent a message revealing, “Julie had me make the call. She was beside me

the whole time.” Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Candice chose not to respond and left after closing the door.

She stopped by Madam Zora’s to pick up some fish soup for Nadia and the others.

While she was waiting, Candice looked through her phone and saw a photo that Joe’s doctor had

posted. She stared at the photo and contacted the doctor.

Dr. Brooks answered promptly.

Candice’s voice was quivering as she asked, “Is that Dr. Sui in your post?”

“Yes, I meant to tell you. Dr. Sui is busy tomorrow morning and won’t stay long at the hospital. He’s

currently free, though. I’ll see if he’s available for you. If so, you can find him at the Southern Gin

Hotel.”

Candice struggled to process this news.

She had met Chad Sui, Helen’s brother and Alex’s uncle, at a birthday party. Back then, she had not

idea he was a distinguished neurologist.

Candice sat in her car, feeling a dull discomfort in her chest and struggling to breathe. She lingered for

a while before driving away.

She took a right instead of a left toward the villa and ended up at the Southern Gin Hotel.

Dr. Brooks pointed out that Chad had a busy day ahead of him with only a few hours free for this

afternoon.

Candice realized Joe’s health couldn’t be put off any longer.

She walked straight to the room Dr. Brooks had assigned her when she arrived at the hotel.

She had to phone Dr. Brooks again after knocking for a long time and getting no response.

After a few moments, she discovered that Chad was having dinner with his family downstairs.

She expressed her gratitude and headed toward the elevator, pressing the down button emotionlessly.

Reaching the third–floor lobby, she saw the ongoing company event.

She waited at the door, searching for Chad.

“Candice?” A hesitant voice reached her ears.

Hearing her name, Candice turned to see Sonia in a white business suit.

Sonia blinked at Candice and said with a smile, “I wasn’t expecting you. It’s a shame, as today’s event

is also a celebration for the company.”

Candice glanced at her, saying, “I came to find someone.”

“Looking for someone from the Secretary’s Office? Actually, you’re supposed to be the highlight. today,

considering it’s a celebration of Aether Corporation and Blue Artifact’s partnership,” she remarked,

showing a hint of regret.
