Chapter 299

Chapter 299

Candice hadn’t expected Sonia to go out of her way to provoke her. She still had to settle scores for her

grandfather’s matter, but now Sonia seemed to be making trouble again. However, thinking about her

grandfather’s matter, she could not avoid thinking about Yvonne.

Feeling a bit annoyed, there was a slight darkness in Candice’s eyes.

She did not stay out for long and went directly to the construction site to see Hanley. The Blue Artifact

exhibition in Dorrington was about to kick off, so extra attention was needed during the

setup.

However, when Candice arrived, Hanley wasn’t around. Only Nadia was checking details on the

blueprints.

She didn’t notice Candice at first. It was only after someone greeted her that she glanced around.” Why

are you here?” she asked.

“I came to see if there’s anything I can help with,” Candice replied.

Without much thought, Nadia said directly. “This is all technical work. You don’t understand these

things. The Boss and Ryan went to the department. If you came earlier, you could have gone with

them.”

Candice hummed an agreement. “I came too late.”

What Nadia said made sense. Candice didn’t understand these technical details, and staying around

might cause more trouble. Candice turned around and prepared to leave.

Just as she was about to inform Nadia, Nadia suddenly looked up with her eyes shining, as if she

had some troubles.

Candice paused. “What’s wrong?”

“I forgot that I have to sign off a batch of materials at the building material market today. There’s too

much going on, and I’m overwhelmed.”

Burning Star had accepted two major orders, and the signing times were almost the same. Everyone

was incredibly busy. Nadia couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious.

“Is it still possible to go there now?” Candice asked.

“It’s possible, but I also need to finish checking things on this site today.”

“Can I go over?” Candice suggested. “If it doesn’t involve many specialized issues, I should be

able to help.”

Nadia slapped her forehead. “Yes! It’s just a batch of wood. I’ll give you the documents, and you can

check them according to that.”

After leaving the construction site, it was only a little past three o’clock. Candice drove directly to the

building material market and signed the contract as instructed by Nadia.

Just as she finished, Hanley called. His voice carried a hint of warmth. “Are you still at the building

material market?”

“I’ll be back soon. What’s the matter?” Candice thought Hanley might have some additional requests.

“I’m still here. You can tell me what you need now.”

“Nadia said you’re there. Ryan and I will be passing by. Shall we leave together?”

The market was on the way to the department, so Candice agreed. “All right.”

Hanley and the others had a good meeting with the department, and after meeting up with Candice,

they went back to the villa..

Originally everyone planned to go out for barbecue, but Candice received a call from Jessica.

“Sorry, Miss Renault. I’ve just decided to go abroad. If you have time, can we meet tomorrow

night?”

Candice agreed graciously. “We can meet according to your schedule.”

After ending the call, Nadia looked at Candice thoughtfully. “Candice. I’ve noticed that you’re different

when you’re working compared to your usual self.”

“How so?”

Nadia thought for a moment. “I just feel like when you’re working, you seem especially confident

like someone chosen to work.”

The next evening, Candice met Jessica at a mall in the city center. Throughout the day, the weather

had been somewhat gloomy, with signs of impending rain. Candice was afraid of delays

on the road, so she left early.

Candice’s expression remained unchanged as she replied calmly. “It’s the weekend, and you’re already

thoughtful enough to be willing to take the time to meet with me.”

Compared to Helen’s edgy and confrontational personality, Jessica had always had a more tactul

personality. She casually continued with a few more words, effortlessly steering the conversata away.

Candice had originally come to discuss business, so she did not say much.

Aside from a brief comment at the beginning, Helen remained mostly silent. She waited for Jessica and

Candice to finish their business discussions before looking at Jessica coldly. “I’ve shown you respect,

but I find the food here really unappetizing. Let’s go to a cleaner place.”

Knowing Helen’s temper, Jessica chuckled and comforted her. “What’s wrong? Didn’t you say you

thought the food at this place was excellent before?”

“Even if the food is excellent, how much can I eat when sitting with a shameless person?”

Her attack was quite straightforward. Candice’s fingers paused as lifted her eyes to look at Helen, who

had raised her chin high. Helen lowered her gaze to Candice, not denying her behavior. Candice

remained composed and said softly, “How aggrieving for Mrs. Elysian. I didn’t expect you and Ms. Kane

would go shopping together today and then come to see me instantly. It’s an unfortunate coincidence.”

If Helen had not wanted to interact with Candice, why join Jessica. Surely she could have found her

own way home.

Candice showed little emotion in her eyes, but Helen slowly frowned as she looked at her. Just as she

was about to lose her temper, she heard Jessica’s casual remark. “Alex is about to come.

Helen, be gentler. Otherwise, I won’t have an easy time being stuck between you and your son all

day.”

Candice’s eyelashes flickered slightly.

“Did you ask him to come?” Helen asked.

Jessica pointed outside where the sky was already dark. “It’s starting to rain, and it’ll probably turn into

a downpour after dinner. I don’t dare to drive in such weather, so I asked Alex to come

pick me up.”

Helen sneered. “When I asked for him, he wasn’t this obedient.”

“You are the one who insisted on fighting with him.”

Listening to Helen and Jessica discussing Alex, Candice lowered her eyes, thinking of an excuse to

leave. She did not want to encounter Alex. Sonia’s words at the hospital had left her feeling disgusted.

However, Jessica was a client, and it would not be appropriate to leave midway through. Candice

remained expressionless, but she had lost her appetite.
