Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Candice stood there for a while before nodding. “Understood.”

She spoke emotionlessly, her lips pale. Her gaze at Alex gradually grew calm.

Candice smiled and said dryly, “I’m sorry. I was overthinking.”

Alex looked at his phone without caring too much.

After a moment, he looked at her and asked, “Do you need me to take you back?”

He originally had other plans at night, but they had no choice but to return to the hotel for some rest

now that

Candice was hurt.

Candice knew Alex’s temper. If he really wanted to take her back, he wouldn’t have asked.

She waved her injured hand and said, “It’s fine. I’ll call a cab.”

Alex wanted to say something else, but his phone rang. He looked down at it, and he slowly frowned.

Candice looked at his expression. After standing there for a while, she left.

She was not feeling very well, so she was walking away slowly. After making a turn, there was a bus

stop, and

she stopped there.

She was in the Pioneer Park area, and it was mostly private vehicles coming to and fro. Candice was

not in a hurry to get a cab, and she simply sat on the bench and looked at the cars quietly.

She believed that she might have jumped the gun and she had overestimated herself. She thought that

Alex

was still the same.

However, people could change in the end.

When Candice reached the hotel, it was almost five in the evening. She had not even managed to sit

down

when she saw Yvonne was calling her.

Yvonne had been calling her a bit too much lately. She couldn’t help but think about her suspicions. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Candice grabbed her phone and walked over to the balcony. There was something that she wanted to

verify with Yvonne.

However, when she picked up the call, it wasn’t Yvonne’s voice. It was the brutish and aggressive voice

of a

man.

“You’re Yvonne’s daughter?” The man asked without hesitation.

Candice’s expression cooled. “Who are you?”

“I am her man! Your mother owes me 10,000. You will pay me back on her behalf!”

Candice was so angry that her hand that was holding the phone was shaking. Her voice was extremely

cold as she said, “Get her to pick up the phone.”

The man clicked his tongue and said, “I brought that waste of space to the hospital. Your name is

Candice, right? You’re responsible for paying your mother’s debt. Now, pay me! I have something else

to do later!”

Candice quickly calmed down and said, “She’s married to you now and Peach is also your daughter.

She wouldn’t owe you money for treating your daughter.”

“Enough. If she didn’t give birth to such a useless thing, I wouldn’t have wasted so much money.” The

man said as he refused to listen. Instead, he spoke louder and louder. “I’m not wasting my breath with

you. Yvonne said that you eam a lot. If you won’t pay for it, I can look for her father. He’ll pay for his

own daughter’s debt,

right?!”

When she heard the man talk about her grandfather, Candice’s frosty expression became even darker.

He had been teaching his whole life and his health had been an issue as he grew older. If he heard

about this. she wasn’t sure just how angry he would become.

When the man didn’t hear Candice’s response, he began cursing again. Candice was getting upset, so

she decided to hang up.

However, the man’s threats still rang in her mind. Candice was worried that he would go and find her

grandfather but wasn’t sure how to tell him about that.

While her grandfather hadn’t said a thing, Candice had accidentally run across him a few times when

he would simply stare at Yvonne’s photo.

Candice gave her head a massage. Yvonne was her mother, in the end.

Even if she didn’t bear much of the responsibility of being a mother, Candice could still remember her

figure when she cooked in the kitchen every time she came home from school when she was still little.
