Chapter 47: Who The Real Clowns Would Be
The sound of birds chattering woke Kourtney up from her deep slumber. It was a bright new day, and the sun was already starting to set, casting a warm glow through her bedroom window.
She yawned from sleepiness and then looked at the time on her large wall clock.
“What?? 9 am already?” Kourtney shrieked, jumping up from the bed in haste
Her heart raced as she realized she had overslept on one of the most crucial days of her life.
“How could I wake up so late like this?” she muttered to herself, feeling a wave of anxiety wash over her.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Her stomach was growling due to hunger, and she knew she wouldn’t have enough time to engage in her beloved morning care routines and yoga sessions. A pity! Because it had always helped her start the day on a more positive note.
It was a Saturday, which meant the entire family would gather to have a luncheon and brunch party that afternoon. Everyone was meant to attend as a family tradition, put in place by Grandma Florence.
But first, she needed to eat breakfast!
After showering and tidying up as quickly as she could, she wore a black hoodie and sweatpants, a far cry from her usual put-together appearance, and then headed downstairs.
“Phew!” Kourtney took a deep breath, preparing her mental health for what she knew was about to come…..
Even before she entered the large dining room, she could already hear the loud whispers and giggles. She knew they had all been mocking and gossiping about her all morning.
The thought made her stomach churn with unease, but she pushed through the door with a brave face. And as soon as she joined the dining room, she was greeted with more cruel laughter and teasing from her family.
Jason, the family’s resident comedian, couldn’t resist making a grand entrance for Kourtney.
“Wow! Look who decided to grace us with her presence. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the one and only wife of the great CEO, Sebastian Woods!” he announced loudly, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Everyone at the dinner table exploded with laughter, their amusement echoing through the room. As Kourtney took her seat at the table, the laughter even intensified, with some of them nearly falling from their seats.
Nearly everyone present was the younger generation of the Allen family, especially the teenagers and those in their 20s because the older members preferred to have their breakfast served in their own bedrooms. It had become something of a family tradition for the younger Allens to gather for breakfast together.
Diane’s eyes twinkled mischievously after the laughter subsided. “I must say, Kourt, you really know how to steal the show. Marrying a billionaire overnight? That’s some next-level ambition!”
“Lmao, we can’t blame her for being so Delulu…. I mean, our dear Kourtney is going through a lot right now, and I guess she was just high on cheap drugs last night,” Jenny, another one of Kourtney’s cousins, chimed in, earning a new wave of uncontrollable laughter.
The Allen family younglings had a knack for making fun of each other, finding joy in teasing and clowning around. It was a way for them to bond and create lasting memories. Today, however, Kourtney found herself at the center of their jokes, the scapegoat for their amusement.
She forced a smile, joining in the laughter, but it felt…. BITTER.
It stung to see her own family making fun of her like this. To everyone, she was like a deranged clown and a worthy laughing stock for claiming she was married to Sebastian Woods.
“Come on, guys,” Kourtney finally spoke up, her voice filled with boredom and tiredness from trying to convince them. “I know it sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. I really did marry Sebastian Woods. You all know me. I always aim for the stars. And who better to marry than a billionaire, right?”
The room fell silent for a moment, and then erupted into even louder laughter. “Oh, Kourtney, you always have the best jokes,” Jason said between fits of laughter. “But seriously, we all know you have a wild imagination. You’ve been telling us stories since we were kids.”
Kourtney’s face flushed with frustration. She had always been the dreamer in the family, the one with big aspirations and wild ideas. But this time, it was different. This time, she had actually done something unimaginable, but no one believed her!
“Alright, alright, enough teasing,” she said, finally deciding to play it off. “I agree, I was clowning last night ’cause I had so much to drink. No big deal. Can we move on now?”
“Oh, come on, Kourt,” Diane said, grinning mischievously. “You have to admit, it’s not every day we get to see a billionaire’s wife. You’d have to bear our teasing for a few more weeks, or perhaps months….”
Kourtney shot her a playful glare and said nothing. She grabbed a piece of toast and slathered it with jam, trying to ignore the teasing glances from the people around her.
They all continued to take turns poking fun at her, each trying to outdo the other with their witty remarks.
“You guys are relentless. So suit yourselves,” she sneered. The whole vibe on the table was so eye-roll-inducing.
Kourtney felt a pang of hurt, but she knew that this was just how her family operated. They found humor in each other’s quirks and idiosyncrasies, and today, she happened to be the target. She took a deep breath, reminding herself not to take it personally.
As she sipped her coffee, Kourtney’s phone buzzed with a text.
Her heart skipped a beat as she read the message. “Good morning, sleeping beauty! Don’t forget, today’s the day. I’ll arrive by 2 pm.”
It was a text from her husband, Sebastian Woods, the same man these people thought she was bluffing about marrying.
She couldn’t help but smirk at the timing, and a new surge of excitement coursed through her veins.
“Let’s see who the real clowns would be later,” she muttered to herself with a confident grin.
She couldn’t wait to see how they’d all eat up their mockery and be ashamed for doubting her.
They had dismissed her claims as mere fantasies. They had laughed at her, mocked her, and made her the subject of their jokes. But today, she would prove them all wrong.
With newfound determination, Kourtney finished her breakfast happily and excused herself from the table. She needed to prepare for the day ahead a day that would undoubtedly change her family’s perception of her forever.
***********
Soon enough, it was almost time for the Allen family’s Saturday Luncheon, and also, about an hour left before Sebastian showed up as promised.
Every time her phone buzzed, Kourtney hoped it was another message from Sebastian, a sign that the moment was drawing near.
She carefully chose her outfit, opting for the same stunning white dress Lilian had insisted she wore. She had previously planned to disobey her best friend’s order by going for something less flashy and extravagant, but them mocking her at the diner table earlier had done enough to change her mind.
The dress accentuated Kourtney’s curves, and she exuded confidence. She styled her long brown hair in loose waves that cascaded down her shoulders and applied a touch of makeup to enhance her natural beauty.
As she peeked at herself in the mirror, she felt perfect and confident in her skin.
One could say that she indeed looked like she would easily pass as a Billionaire’s wife.
She took a deep breath and walked into the dining room with a grace and poise that commanded the attention of everyone. She was fashionably late, and all eyes turned to her.
More down a few gasps could be heard as Kourtney made her way toward the over-crowded dinner table.
She looked stunning in her white angelic dress, exuding an air of sophistication that couldn’t be ignored. However, instead of receiving warm greetings or compliments, she was met with accusing glares and whispers.
This time, the whole family was present at the dinner table, both the old and young.
And she was shocked to see other familiar faces sitting at the table. It was some members of the Smith family.
‘What are they doing here?’ Kourtney was confused.
But then she recalled why they were there in the first place.
‘Oh, great!’
Today’s luncheon was sort of a get-together party for the upcoming wedding of Brandon and Kathlyn. The two families needed to become more familiar with each other, and this was originally planned to happen previously when the bride should have been HER.
It was Kourtney’s idea to have this get-together in the first place. She had planned everything down to the spoons and dishes that would be served for the occasion.
But, these shameless people still proceeded with the party on the same date and time, even when the bride changed to her malicious sister.
Speaking of which, the sight of the two people she disliked the most came into full view.
Kathlyn sat on Brandon’s lap with a coquettish grin spread across her face. His one hand was massaging her pregnant belly, and they looked like the couple of the year, making Kourtney want to puke.
Soon, they both heard the whispers and turned their heads to look at Kourtney in unison.
