Chapter Five
Keeping Interests Alive Zacks’ POV
I found myself staring at the world below Blackwell Hills.
I watched the couples who walked hand-in-hand, the children that played at the park, and the stray cats
that slept out in the sun. Something about them now stirred something different inside of me.
Something mixed with jealousy.
L used to not care about being isolated from the rest of the world: especially as it evolved. From horses
to cars, from small homes to sky-high buildings. As their world becarne more convenient, it also
became dirtier-more greedy.
If anything, I was glad to have my castle atop Blackwell Hills, away from all of that. But as everything
around me moved forward, I stayed frozen in place, tortured by an endless cycle of pain. A part of me
ached to be amongst them. A part of me wanted to have another to hold, a son of my own, and less of
a monstrosity of a dog for a pet.
L yearned to know a life where I wasn't in a constant state of agitation and pain because the fire within
me could never be satisfied. Unfortunately, I knew that that wasn’t the reality I lived in.
They feared me and my powers.
They feared what I did-what I could do. Plus, with the Fire Wolf inside of me, there was no way I'd be
able to live a life of simplicity.
The sound of the large wooden doors opening caught my attention as padded paws and labored huffs
slowly made their way to me.
I knew immediately that it was Cerberus.
I turned around to greet my loyal guardian when I noticed a figure lying on his back. Cerberus knew
that no one was allowed in the main palace unless I specifically requested their presence.
The flames of anger started to ignite. “Cerberus..”
My voice was calm, although the beast knew that my temper was far from it.
I could feel the fire in my eyes begin to burn. “You know better than to bring anyone into this building
without my permission!” Cerberus kneeled and allowed the body to gently slide off his back. Afterward,
his ears turned downward as he hastily ran out the door.
I'll give you credit—you're smart enough to know when leaving my presence is the best thing you can
do for your life. Although, I couldn't think the same for whoever this poor soul was.
I suspected it was one of the maids, but it didn't matter.
There would be 98 of them left-more than enough to serve me as needed. Ugh, I need to make it more
clear at what times they're allowed to enter my portion of the palace and when they’re not. allowed my
Fire Wolf to take control as its burned my body while it shifted. As I was about to burn the body on the
ground, I immediately stopped when I finally saw who it was. Wait...
Leaped over the girl's body and flung open my palace doors. “Cerberus!” A few seconds later, the
beast came back with his head bowed down.
I shifted back into my human form. “What is the meaning of this? Why is she here?” Cerberus lifted his
head and only whimpered. He slowly walked back towards the girl as one of his heads nuzzled her
unconscious body.
I let out a sigh as I went and kneeled next to the girl.
I took her soft and long brown hair in between my fingers as the faint smell of vanilla wafted into my
nose.
Interesting... As I observed her body, I noticed a burn mark on her right arm.
I immediately thought back to earlier in the day when I burned the werewolf girl who attempted to kill
me.
This must have been the girl who was standing next to her.
I must have burned her by accident, too.
I looked down at her delicate features and for the first time, I felt conflicted.
This strange woman only interested me because she had stared me down, knowing that I could've
killed her like I did the other maid. But now to add to that, Cerberus brought her here to me, when
under normal circumstances, he probably would've just eaten her. "You're full of surprises, aren't you”
However, I also felt a strange sense of guilt.
I knew that I meant to kill the other girl, but I didn't mean for this one to get hurt in the crossfire.
It was then that I decided, for the first time, that I was going to save someone's life instead of taking it.
I bit down on my finger and watched as the blood began to pool and drip from the wound.
Taking the unconscious girl into my arms, I pressed my bleeding finger into her mouth. After a few
seconds, it seemed as if she stirred from her unconsciousness.
In doing so, she also began to suck on the blood from my finger.
This awakened something in me that I hadn't experienced before. A sudden cool and gentle wave of
ease washed my body.
It was like drinking a cold and refreshing lemonade on a hot summer's day. “This...
This feeling..”
My Fire Wolf hummed in the back of my mind. Even he had calmed down, and the burning sensation This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
that had tortured me for so long stopped entirely.
I was too stunned to move. Feelings of clarity and comfort hugged me like a blanket. And the more she
drank, the more I could feel something else swirl inside of me. Waves of pleasure rippled throughout
my body, and heat began to stir in my stomach. My chest tightened and even the Fire Wolf couldn't
help himself. “I want more of her,” his voice in my mind was hoarse as if he was struggling to speak.
Lily continued to suck the blood from my finger and while I thought I was imagining things, I could've
sworn she swirled her tongue around my finger. Vet out a groan. Her subconscious mind must already
realize the pull then...
The heat continued to spread throughout my body until it reached my groin. But could she really be...?
The feelings of pleasure and peace stopped the moment she woke up, however.
The girl opened her eyes and fear immediately gripped her as she realized that she had my finger in
her mouth.
I let out an aggravated groan. Well, there goes my fun.
Lily scrambled to her feet as her face lit up a bright red. She backed away a few feet and knelt on the
ground.
I took a deep breath, then stood up and straightened my back. “What is your name?” “Lily... Your
Majesty. My name is Lily”
Her voice was soft yet there was strength in it when she answered me. “Lily... Lily..”
The Fire Wolf repeated like he was singing a song.
The burning sensation came back, and so did the restlessness. While I was normally impatient when
dealing with the Fire Wolf, I felt even more agitated than I had before. Anew fire within started to ache
in my core. “Mate... Mate!” The Fire Wolf began to shout. “Mate! Lily is our mate!” That's when it all
started to make sense.
Lily not only calmed the Fire Wolf within me, but she was the only one who had ever stirred that much
feeling of lust from drinking my blood. Past flings have drank my blood as part of their desire but none
of them had sparked pleasure like that before. Not even once. She made me feel excitement, comfort,
and harmony with myself and this forsaken Fire Wolf.
Lily was my salvation from the hell I was forced to live with.
I wasn't going to lose her now. “Well, Lily, consider your status upgraded. You're now my personal
maid.”
