Chapter 64 Act Tough But Shooting Yourself In The Foot
Chapter 64 Act Tough But Shooting Yourself In The Foot
Pearl went into the kitchen to help Priscilla After Dr. Wale left.
They stood behind the kitchen counter. The fresh vegetables were placed in front of them. Pearl was
peeling the garlic.
Priscilla looked at Pearl and chuckled suddenly, "Fred insisted on having roast beef in the morning. I
was so angry and argued with him. Well, he's a doctor, but he doesn't even follow his own doctor's
advice. He is not allowed to eat greasy food, but he won't listen to me." This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
"Dr. Wale knew that I was going to come here for free food shamelessly." Pearl replied.
"Come on! It's still the same when you're in college. Just treat this as your home and drop by often."
"Thank you so much, Mrs. Wale."
"Don't mention it. Well, Fred is about to retire, but Ocpeace Medical University reassigned him, and the
City Hospital won't allow him to quit. But, you know him. He has offended many people, which put on
him a lot of stress. It's not good for his health."
"Yes, Dr. Wale is always very upright and outspoken."
"Too much of a good thing," Priscilla sighed, "I can't even talk to him about it. He's getting fierier as he
ages and he never listened to me."
"Mrs. Wale, you can't talk to him about it? But I've never seen Mr. Wale be tough in front of you, and
he always listens to you." Pearl burst into laughter.
Priscilla chuckled together with Pearl. "Fred taught so many students but you're the smartest. After so
many years, you're probably the only one who dares to come to our house like this."
"That's because Dr. Wale is too serious at work. The students respect him but they're also afraid of
him. He would even examine the students when they're eating in the cafeteria. Who wouldn't be scared
of him?"
"You."
"Because I'm shameless." Pearl grinned and replied.
"It's because you're very good in your studies." Priscilla looked at Pearl seriously and added with a
straight face, "Back then, Fred was too upset when he heard that you were going abroad for further
study. He was frustrated because his best student wouldn't willing to work under him."
Pearl explained hurriedly, "Mrs. Wale, I'm more than willing to work under him but I had to leave for
some personal reasons. I always felt guilty."
If she did not go abroad suddenly at that time, she would have continued her studies under Dr. Wale's
guidance. Back then, Dr. Wale was leading a medical project. He decided to take her in. She would be
the co-author for the thesis too. However, she fell out with her family and she had to leave.
Priscilla went through ups and downs as well, so she did not ask more. Priscilla expressed her
understanding and replied, "Well, Fred was very glad when you came back. He even came back a little
tipsy. If it hadn't been for that, I wouldn't have known that you came back."
Pearl laughed, "When I came back, I didn't see Dr. Wale in the hospital. After a few days, he was
serious whenever he saw me. It was not until a month later that he finally willing talked to me. Well, he
just said a sentence though."
"Haha," Priscilla laughed, "He tries to act tough but he's shooting himself in the foot. What did he say?"
"He said 'don't block the way'." Pearl pulled a long face and lowered her voice to mimic Dr. Wale.
Priscilla burst into laughter, "Hahaha."
Pearl had lunch at Dr. Wale's house. When she was in college, she often came to eat. Her favorite dish
would be Priscilla's roast beef. After eating, Pearl would always bring back some with her. So did this
time.
Before leaving, Priscillia packed Pearl a large box of roast beef and some homemade dishes.
"Mrs. Wale, don't see me off. I'll go by myself. It's very hot outside, so please stay indoors." Pearl stood
at the door with a few shopping bags.
"Fred, why don't you see Pearl off?" Priscilla glanced over her shoulder and called.
A cold voice came from the sofa. "What? Why? Is she a kid now?"
"You..."
"Mrs. Wale," Pearl interrupted Priscilla smilingly and lowered her voice, "It's fine, I know that he's still
mad at me. I'll be leaving and I'll visit you another day."
"Don't care about it. He was too stubborn."
Priscilla closed the door after Pearl left. Priscilla turned around and saw that someone was craning his
neck and looking outside. She found it annoying and funny as she crossed her arms. She uttered, "I
asked you to see her off, but you refused. But now you're worried. You know, Pearl's arm is still
injured."
"Since you know her arm is still injured, why didn't you see her off?"
"You're blaming me now? She's your student but you didn't want to see her off and you're even sulking.
You'll just shame yourself if anyone hears about this."
"she's your goddaughter."
"She's also your goddaughter."
"Of course not." Dr. Wale put down the teapot, "I won't talk to you. I need to make a phone call first."
After that, he grabbed his phone and went to the study. Then Priscilla's sarcastic voice sounded behind
him, "Just admit that you can't win the argument. Yet, don't find excuses any more. You act tough but
you're just shooting yourself in the foot."
Dr. Wale closed the door of his study behind him. And the call was connected.
"Hi Mr. Simpson. It's me, Fred Wale."
"Sir, please don't call me that." Immediately, a voice from the other end replied respectfully.
"Why not? You're the dean, so it's natural for me to call you like that."
"Sir, I'm almost break out in cold sweat, so please call me Dennis."
Mr. Simpson, the dean of the City Hospital, was Dr. Wale's student too. Mr. Simpson was one of the
very first master's students who graduated under Dr. Wale.
As we all know, Dr. Wale and the new dean were not on good terms. They shared different opinions in
the projects and they even rarely met in the hospital.
While, Mr. Simpson was very respectful to his former lecturer.
"Sir, why do you call me?" Mr. Simpson was nervous as he asked,
Dr. Wale did not hold back and asked directly, "I heard the hospital is sending a doctor to be a medical
expert on set, right?"
"Yes."
"So you sent Pearl?"
"Yes, Mr. Wale."
"She was injured on set. Do you know that?"
"Yes, so I asked her to take a rest. I've sent someone else to take over her place. She will return to the
set after she recovers.
Dr. Wale was really mad. "Do you know Pearl's major? Do you know how difficult it is to cultivate such a
talented surgeon at her age? Her hands are supposed to perform surgeries, and you hired her to save
patients! She shouldn't be bullied by the those crew members!"
On the other end of the line, Mr. Simpson was choked. He was breaking out in cold sweat, even if It
was just over the phone. "So?"
"Send someone else to the crew. Anyone but Pearl."
"Okay, I'll arrange someone else to do the job"
"Also, let Pearl go back to work tomorrow."
"Um..."
"What? You can't do it?"
"Sir, you're really making things difficult for me. Dr. Yonng was involved in a fiasco previously and it has
yet to die down. You know, the higher-ups cared about the doctors' behavior very much."
"I can guarantee for Pearl's character, and I'll take full responsibility, so what are you afraid of?"
"I didn't mean that, sir. Things aren't that simple. Well, let me tell you. Dr. Yonng offended someone."
