Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Every time she said something like that, lan found himself unable to resist her. More often than not, dinner would have to wait because he’d end up devouring her first.
It was only in moments like that lan truly felt what happiness was. He now realized he’d once had this kind of bliss in his life, but he’d destroyed it with his own hands.
Every time those memories resurfaced, a sharp pain stabbed relentlessly at his heart.
Hunched over with a ghastly pale face, he looked at Ryker and said icily, “I’m not dead yet!” Ryker didn’t show any of the brotherly concern you might expect. Instead, a mischievous smirk played on his lips. “You look half–dead to me. And besides, why should Ms. Clara wait for you to kick the bucket? You’re not her man.”
lan felt like Ryker was a thorn sent by Mr. Marco himself, always poking right where it hurt the most. His pale lips twitched with disdain as he glared at Ryker. “You’re still wet behind the ears, kid. Think you can compete with me for a woman? Dream on!”
Ryker wasn’t the least bit offended. His laughter was even more reckless and free–spirited. He rested his sweaty hands on his hips, oozing masculinity as he retorted, “Not sure if I’m all grown– up? Maybe I should check, huh?” He made a motion as if he were about to drop his trousers.
lan gritted his teeth in annoyance. “Get back to your place!”
“I won’t. Ms. Clara’s whipped up some breakfast, and she’s waiting to eat with me,” Ryker shot back, tugging lan aside. Under lan’s icy gaze, he punched in the door code.
Upon opening the door, he called out cheerily, “Ms. Clara, I’m back!”
Clara’s gentle voice carried from inside. “Wash up, breakfast is ready.”
Hearing her voice, lan felt a bitter taste rise in his throat, as if blood was about to spill out. He grabbed Ryker’s wrist, weakly calling into the house, “Clara, my stomach… it hurts.”
As he spoke, he slid down the door frame, collapsing onto the floor. He’s so afraid that Ryker would shut the door and Clara wouldn’t see him fall ill, that his hand was clung to the frame.
Ryker frowned down at him. “Jan, don’t play me like that, man. I didn’t even touch you. Don’t fake it with me.
After giving lan’s leg a few nudges with his foot, Ryker realized that lan had genuinely passed out. He immediately called into the house, “Ms. Clara, lan’s really out cold!”
Clara had been busy preparing comforting oatmeal in the kitchen when she heard the commotion. She immediately dashed out, finding lan pale and drenched in a cold sweat,
sumped at the doorway She knew he’d had a rough night and that his stomach adment was flaring up. Yet, without a moments hesitation, she pulled out her phone and dialed Dawson Dawson, Mr. Hayes has collapsed. He’s right outside my place. You better get over here quick”
When lan regained consciousness, the only person by his side was Dawson. Lifting his head, he scanned the room but saw no sign of Clara
Dawson asked promptly. “Mr. Hayes, what are you looking for?”
With a raspy voice tinged with the weakness that followed illness, lan murmured, “Where is she?”
Understanding dawned on Dawson, who replied, “Attorney Clara called me and then went

lan’s hands clenched the sheets tightly. Even after he had fainted, she still had the heart to go to work. Didn’t she care for him at all anymore?
His eyes darkened, and his voice grew colder “She left me lying at the door to go to work?
