Chapter 436
Chase caressed Sasha’s cheek with his large hand while he kept talking. His handsome face leaned in closer. His captivating eyes shimmered with emotion, and a teasing smile played at the corners of his mouth.
His hot breath washed over Sasha’s face, making her heart race unexpectedly.
Just as their lips were about to meet, Sasha snapped back to reality.
She quickly placed her hand over Chase’s lips. “Back off, you jerk! Men, you are all the same, You think you can take advantage of me? In your dreams!”
Chase raised an eyebrow at her. “Did you really think my idea of compensation was a kiss?” NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Sasha stammered, “Isn’t it?”
Chase chuckled softly, “I was actually hoping you’d whip up a meal for me as compensation, but if you prefer this approach, I suppose I could oblige.” Then, he leaned in to attempt a kiss.
Sasha, frightened, quickly wriggled out of his embrace. Blushing, she retorted, “In your dreams! I’ll go check the kitchen to see what I can rustle up.” She turned and left the room.
Once the door closed behind her, Chase touched his lips with a smile, murmuring, “Silly girl, that’s exactly the kind of compensation I was looking for.”
Meanwhile, Clara felt like she had been trapped in a lengthy dream. In it, someone told her that she was not the daughter of Casey, but rather the daughter of the Campbell family.
She had been beaten, almost perished in a fire. All she could think about was survival, protecting her child, and escaping with it.
At a critical moment, she had grabbed a wine bottle, smashed it over Heidi’s head, and then tied her to a post with a rope. When the flames nearly engulfed her, she clung to a lifebuoy and leaped into the ocean.
She couldn’t recall how long she drifted, through what seemed like endless sunrises and sunsets, until she finally passed out.
Clara’s eyes flew open, and instead of the raging sea, she found herself in a shabby cabin filled with men’s belongings. It was only then that she fully awakened, realizing she hadn’t died, and someone had rescued her.
Her first instinct was to protect her belly. She feared for her child after her violent encounter with Heidi. At that moment, she heard several men’s voices outside the door.
“Hey, boss, reckon that chick should be waking up by now, huh?”
“Who cares if she’s awake or not. Let’s have our fun. That’s what counts.”
“Yeah, she’s a looker alright. Bet she’ll be a real treat.”
As they spoke, they pushed open the door and entered the room. Clara quickly shut her eyes, terrified. In her mind, she swiftly organized her thoughts.
Someone had indeed saved her, but they were no saints either. She needed to find a way to escape or get a phone to call Ian for help.
The leader, a man with a cigarette dangling from his lips and tattoos covering his arms, came to Clara’s bedside. He took a deep drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaled the smoke near Clara’s face. Unable to bear the smell of tobacco, Clara burst into a coughing fit.
Seeing through her act, the man grabbed her chin tightly and sneered, “Playing dead, little girl? You do realize that without me, you’d be shark food by now.”
She struggled to breathe, her face turning red with strain. “Sir, I know you saved me, and I can pay you whatever you want. Just let me go home.”
The tattooed man leered at her. “I don’t need your money, sweetheart. I’m short on women, especially ones as pretty and well-shaped as you.”
