Chapter 490

Chapter 490

No matter how Clara felt about it, she was entitled to the truth.

After all, May was her mother, the lone source of maternal love in her life.

Ian had never intended to keep her in the dark.

Clara watched the worry lines deepen on Ian's forehead, and her heart ached for him.

She reached out with her delicate hand and softly smoothed away his frown.

"Has there been more trouble at the office? You always seem so preoccupied lately," she asked gently.

Ian looked down at her, taking in her cherubic face and the concern in her eyes for him.

A sharp pang hit his heart, and his embrace tightened around her.

"Just recently, confidential files were stolen from the company. The launch of our new product took a big hit, and our microchip orders, both domestic and international, have dropped significantly. But all that doesn't matter. What's most important to me now is keeping you and the baby safe from harm," he confessed.

Clara understood immediately.

Ian's concerns for her safety made him reluctant to travel on business, and he seldom stayed late at the office.

So, much of the business was being handled by Dawson, who surely couldn't match Ian's vigor.

Clara was too afraid to step outside while pregnant, while Ian was also being cautious in the business world for her sake. This was all because they were cursed by this malicious force.

Clara made a silent vow.

As soon as she had the baby, she would rally, help Ian, and root out the person behind all this.

Elsewhere...

When Sasha awoke, her entire body was sore, and her head felt like it was splitting in two.

Staring at the ceiling light, the events of the previous night replayed in her mind.

She had gone to the Ferris wheel restaurant alone, had dinner by herself, and drank alone.

And then, Chase brought her home.

They had slept together!

At the recollection, Sasha bolted upright in bed, fury coursing through her as she tossed a pillow to the floor.

How could she have slept with that jerk? He had bad-mouthed her and looked down on her, yet she had ended up in his bed.

Had the alcohol really clouded her judgment that much?

She cursed herself a hundred times over.

She had met her fair share of good-looking guys working in show business—how had she fallen for Chase's charm?

Fuming, she grabbed her hair and buried her face in her knees.

That was when she heard a low chuckle.

"What's the matter? Mad because you woke up without me by your side?" Chase leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, a smug smirk playing across his lips.

Seeing him like that, Sasha wished she could scratch his face off.

She clenched her teeth and snapped, "Don't flatter yourself!"

Chase sauntered over, and hands braced on the bed, his handsome face inching closer as his voice turned husky and tantalizing.

"Or maybe you're upset because I didn't satisfy you last night, and you want another round?"

Sasha knew this guy could never say anything decent.

She flung the pillow at him and shouted, "Get out! With your lousy skills, I wouldn't want a repeat!"

His smirk deepened. "Lousy, huh? If I recall, you were the one begging for more last night."

"Chase, say one more word, and I swear I'll tear that mouth of yours apart!" Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

"No need for that. It's already torn up, thanks to you biting me last night. Don't believe me? Take a look."

Chase pointed to the scar on his lip, grinning impishly.

Furious, Sasha punched him in the gut.

"That's what you get for your smart mouth!"

Instead of getting angry, Chase pounced, pinning Sasha beneath him.

His sensual lips kissed her face with abandon.

"Let me show you what it really means to have a smart mouth," he teased amidst the kisses.
