Chapter 135
Chapter 135
“So what? If I want to, I can make her as famous as any socialite in the city!” Jackson retorted.
“Don’t forget how your father died!” Master Zack said through gritted teeth.
Jackson’s eyes dimmed. “I haven’t forgotten. Even if I were to be with her, it doesn’t mean I would give my life to her. I’m not father. I wouldn’t die for a woman, and I wouldn’t be controlled by a woman!”
He was always the one in control!
Master Zack snorted. “Is that what you came here to say?
“No,” Jackson replied, “I came here to tell you to not lay a hand on her!”
Master Zack’s eyes narrowed. He said angrily, “What do you mean by that? Are you threatening your own grandfather? Is she more important to you than me?”
“Grandpa, I’m just telling you, not threatening you,” Jackson chuckled, “I’m telling you, don’t lay a hand on her. No matter what happens between me and her, don’t lay a hand on her. Of course, you can do that, but I don’t know how I would react if you do. Maybe you can try it?”
Master Zack’s expression changed. He actually felt a chill run down his back.
Jackson was the heir he raised. Jackson grew up as he expected, maybe even better than he expected, but… he’s slipping out of his control!
“What do you even see in Serenity Lewis?” He could not help but ask. There were many famous women in Solaria. A lot of them were beautiful, talented and clever with a clean background, but Jackson had to fall for an ex–convict!
“Maybe it’s because she’s a little foolish,” muttered Jackson.
Foolish enough to lead him back to her rented place and foolish enough to bare her heart to a stranger. She was so foolish that he felt sorry for her.
Even after spending three years in jail, this woman had not learned to be wiser.
But it was also this woman who told him that he had pure, beautiful eyes. She did not look at him with disgust like the old man, or look at him with obsession like other women. She looked at him with appreciation and… a desire to protect him.
She told him she wanted to protect the purity in his eyes.
Little did she know that no one had ever used the word pure to describe him. In the eyes of many people, he was an executioner that would do anything to achieve his goal.
How could a person like him be pure?!
“I’m going, grandpa. I don’t want to disturb your rest,” Jackson smiled, got up and left the ward. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Master Zack looked at the door of the ward open and close with a complicated expression. He seemed to be in deep thought.
When Jackson returned to Serenity’s ward, she was already asleep. He walked to her bedside without turning on the light. He stared at her sleeping face, using the moonlight that poured
in through the window for illumination.
There were still visible tear marks on her face. He gently caressed her cheek. Did she cry after he left?
How many tears did she shed? She was not a person who cried easily. In front of him, she appeared so calm, as if she was resigned to her fate, whatever it may be, but she actually cried behind his back.
Why did she cry? Because he lied to her? Because he’s Jackson Valor? Or because…
“Serenity…” Jackson murmured, “Since you’ve made my heart flutter, you should stay by my side; don’t you think so?”
