Chapter 548
But she soon snapped out of it and walked forward to take her son from Jackson’s hands. She said, “Thank you. I’ll put Yanny to bed.”
Clara then carried Yanny into the room in the back of the restaurant.
Seeing this, Serenity told Jackson, “I want to have a word with Clara. Walt for me here.” She followed Clara into the room.
Clara was putting Yanny down on the bed when Serenity walked in. Clara gently covered her son with the blanket.
“Thanks for helping me take care of Yanny today, Serenity,” Clara expressed her gratitude.
Serenity bit her lip slightly, looked Clara right in the eye and said, “Clara, we ran into Wilson Birch today.”
The name Wilson Birch stunned Clara. Her face instantly turned pale. “He…”
She could not finish her question. She did not even know what to say. Her eyes were filled with fear and anxiety. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Serenity explained without waiting for her to ask, “We simply ran into him. Yanny’s cochlear implant fell off and he ran back to the bathroom by himself to look for it. He bumped into Wilson Birch there.” As she spoke, she took out Yanny’s cochlear Implant from her bag and gave it to Clara, “Wilson Birch has no idea that Yanny is his child.”
Clara’s pupils shrunk abruptly as she stared at Serenity in shock. She had always kept Yanny’s identity a secret. Not many people knew about it. “You… know?” she asked with difficulty.
“Yeah. When Jack mentioned Wilson Birch to me, it made me recall a case that I read about in the past. From that, I figured out the relationship between you and Wilson Birch. Yanny also looks a bit like Wilson Birch,” said Serenity. She then said awkwardly, “I’m sorry…”
After all, that was Clara’s secret. No one would wish for their miserable past to be known.
Clara smiled bitterly. “What is there to apologize for? That’s right, I remember you mentioned that you used to be a lawyer. You said you’ve read the case file? You should know about the case then.”
Serenity nodded.
“I’m innocent. Unfortunately, no one believed me,” said Clara. The helplessness she felt back then was painful. Even her own mother did not believe her back then because their relationship used to be strained. Their relationship only got better after Yanny’s birth because her mother could not bear to see her suffer so much.
“I believe you. There’s not much evidence that can prove your innocence, but I believe in your character,” said Serenity. She believed Clara because she had first–hand experience of being framed too.
She became a lawyer because she believed that the law was always just, but after experiencing it first hand, she realized that even though the law was just, the witnesses and the evidence could lie, which resulted in the law not always being right.
Clara’s eyes became teary. “Serenity, thank you. Thank you for believing in me, and thank you for not letting Wilson Birch know that Yanny is his son.”
“How long are you going to keep it a secret? I heard from Jack that Wilson Birch is looking for you everywhere,” Serenity seemed concerned.
“I won’t let him find me,” said Clara, “As for Yanny, I’ll tell him everything when he reaches adulthood so that he can make his own choice!”
