Chapter 55
Sasha continued to sidestep any attack but the pain we were in was immense. This warlock needed to be found soon or we would not be able to keep this up and my father would win.
Seeing that he had us, he continued to play out the fight. He started to gloat, and he became sloppy with his attacks. He knew the warlock was draining us. He was toying with us like a cat's toys with a mouse before consuming him. "Sasha, I don't know how long we can hang on like this," I said.
Sasha dodged another attack, but we took another long gash in our thigh. Vincent growled in frustration from the crowd. Our whole pack was working to find the warlock, but we had no luck yet.
"You need to shift back." Sasha said.
"He will kill us." I commented as we dodged another attack with another gash to our side.
"You will kill the warlock and shift back. Start to find him now. Think about him. On our next dodge." Sasha sounded exhausted.
I began thinking about the warlock I saw dead below me in the vision.
"Now!" Sasha yelled. We shifted. I found the warlock. He was surprised. I quickly ended him by throwing him out of the circle and letting my pack destroy him. We shifted back but not before my father bit down into our shoulder right by our neck.
When we shifted, Sasha kicked him off and she used all our energy to run to him and bit in his neck twisting her head until a snap. We had done it but in our effort we too had lost. We were bleeding badly and could barely stand.
So, we didn't stand anymore. We knelt next to the body of our father. We did not weep. Instead, we just stared until Vincent came to our side.
Cheers went out from those in the circle at our win. Only Vincent knew how bad we really were. We laid down on the meadow and thought about all the people we would miss. About our pups, Katie, Millie, Reagan, everyone who has come into our lives and made up our chosen family.
Vincet came over and held me. "Hold on baby," he commanded.
The cheering had stopped, and people were running to help the wounded from the border or were stunned just watching the dead Rogue Alpha and his daughter as she died next to him.
"Vincent, I am sorry I waited so long." I said, reaching up to touch his cheek. I wiped a tear away.
"No, you can't talk like that," he said, another tear falling from his eye. Diane came over to hold my other hand.
"Thank you for treating me like your daughter," I told her.
"You can not die. This world needs you in it. You bring a new way of living that we need," Diane said. "Those babies need you; we need you, and Vincent needs you."Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Cole had staggered outside and was next to Vincent.
"You did it," he said. "Now you need to get up and run a victory lap."
I smiled at him. "I am glad you feel better."
"The doctor is right here," Cole continued. "He will have you healed quickly."
"I may be a witch and a wolf, but I am not a cat," I joked. "I have already died a few times. I don't know if I have any lives to spare."
"How can you joke?" Vincent asked.
"I am in no pain anymore. I love you." I said and he kissed me. I faded once again.
This was the first time there was no darkness only light. It was so bright. Sasha was by my side. I could feel her fur. We were both at peace. Sasha's breath was calming almost like purring I thought. "Is it over?" I asked her.
She looked up at me. We stopped walking and we laid in the comfort of the light. The painful memories were fading and all that was left was Sasha and myself.
Our peace was too soon disturbed by Selene.
"I did it. I completed my oath. I gave you my father's blood. Can you give back the pup you took?" I asked.
"In good time," Selene said. "You surprised me. I really did not think you would accept my new fate for you."
"I know it will be hard on everyone, but I finally have a family. They will protect Katie and my pups. I can die knowing that they will be loved and cared for."
"Fillian, you know your son has the power of foresight. Do you know the power your daughter has?" Selene asked.
"I didn't think she would get powers. She is so much like her father." A tear slipped from my eye.
"If you are truly at peace, why the tears?" Selene asked.
"I just wished I had more time with him," I said in truth. "I wasted my time we had at the beginning thinking he was not the wonderful man he is. He has shown me everything I wanted, and I only had such little time." "There is a way," Selene said. "Your father had to die for his role in creating you and Katie, but mainly you. Trying to outsmart the gods is never a good idea." She smiled and sat next to us stroking Sasha.
Sasha moved into the pet. She seemed happy with her mother.
"You can choose. Your magic or your wolf," Selene said. "This is the ultimate sacrifice, as no one should have as much power as you were given."
I looked at Sasha. She whimpered and came to me. She knew how hard it was for me to choose. It was why I delayed mating for so long, which tore Vincent and I apart.
"As always, you have little time to think about it," Selene said.
"I wish just once you would not have another path for me." I responded.
"You can choose to stay. If that is truly what you want, you can stay, but you will stay here in the middle. You have more to do." Selene said, pointing at something in the distance. It was my pup, the one she took from Fenrir. "He will need guidance for his paths," Selene said.
I looked at my son's pup and Sasha. I knew I needed to go back, and I already knew my answer. It would be Sasha. How could I live without her? The price of power has been too great. I never asked for it. I would be happy now to relinquish it. "Sasha," I said. "Let's go home."
