Chapter 109: I Want to Eat the Noodles You Make
Benjamin lingered in the rest room for some time and it was almost time for Hayden to get off work. She came to the rest room to get the children.
“You’re here.” Hayden smiled when she saw Benjamin, “Jeff told me that you have gone to the Higher Education Mega Centre. Did you learn anything there?”
Benjamin shook his head, “I gained some impression from that place based on what you told me, but I still can’t recall anything.”
A flash of disappointment appeared in Hayden’s eyes, but she still tried to comfort Benjamin, “Is that so? It’s okay. The Higher Education Mega Centre is not that big anyway; let’s go there together during the weekend.”
Benjamin smiled and gave people the feeling that he wasn’t that concerned about regaining his memories and relearning his identity.
“We will have dinner together tonight. I have identified the place.”
“Alright.”
Seeing that Hayden has agreed to his proposition so quickly, Noah’s expression changed drastically. He hurriedly wrote a sentence on the drawing board before lifting it up for Hayden to see, “Aren’t we going to my house?”
Hayden stroked his head while explaining, “We were originally going to your house, but in the afternoon the butler called and told me that your father is going on a business trip at night, so he won’t be at home. I can’t shake off all my worries if Stella and you are to sleep there alone, so tonight you will come with me back to my house. I will send you back first thing in the morning tomorrow.”
When he heard that, the frown on Noah’s face deepened.
At this critical timing, how could his father still go on some business trip? Was he that unconcerned and confident?
Although he was dissatisfied with his situation, he could only follow them to dinner. However, when he reached their dinner place, Noah couldn’t help widening his eyes.
In the crowded night market of the Higher Education Mega Centre, youngsters could be seen coming and going on the streets. A strong scent of smoke lingered over the stalls, which captured Stella’s attention.
“Wow! This place is so bustling!”
Hayden listened to Stella’s exclamation and she also lamented, “It has been years since I visited any night market in the country. How are you able to find this place?”
“Somewhere in my memory I can remember a place like this.” There was a faint of smile on Benjamin’s face, “I can’t remember who I have come here with though, but I have a feeling that this is a place I would have frequented in the past. So, I decided to bring you here. I remember that there’s a stall which is quite hygienic, and the business is always good.”
Hayden looked as if she was struck by something as she asked, “Don’t tell me you’re talking about Ma'am Donna’s Barbecue?”
“How do you know about that?” Benjamin was startled for a second.
“Six years ago, when I was studying in the medical school of the Higher Education Mega Centre, that stall was the most famous stall around here. I heard that it is always in business, but too bad, I can never find time to visit it.”
“Then this time, you can fulfill that regret.” Benjamin chipped in, and the lot of them started walking towards the stalls.
It wasn’t late night yet, but the stalls were all lighted up and people were thronging the streets. They were fortunate that they still had seats for them since they didn’t come at a very late time.
Benjamin ordered some dishes without any problems, and he handed the menu to a waiter, “Besides skewers, give me two beef noodles for kids. Make sure the size is not too big, and make sure it’s not spicy.”
After the waiter had left, Benjamin turned around and looked at Hayden. He saw that she was scanning her surroundings. Her curiosity was as strong as Stella’s.
“Haven’t you come to a night market like this in the past?”
“That’s right.” Hayden turned around and displayed a sheepish smile.
“I don’t have many friends in the country, and the few friends I do have don’t like to come to this type of place. I really wanted to come here, but I don’t have the chance because I was alone all the time.” Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Now that she was bringing up the past, she could finally say it casually and without any feelings. However, she had suppressed so much of her feelings for all those years.
When she was in Nanking in the past, because of Chelsea, nobody in school dared to befriend her, therefore she was used to being alone since she was young. It was only when she was studying in university which was not where Chelsea was studying in, she was able to make a friend, but unfortunately, the so-called best friend she had made during those years turned out to be a third wheel who had interjected in her first love.
When Benjamin saw the forlorn and lonely expression on Hayden’s face, he somehow could relate to it, as if he had a similar childhood life, “I think I don’t have many friends either.”
He was quite straightforward, “Or else, we would have heard of news where people are looking for me after getting lost for so long.”
“It’s alright, take it easy.”
After some harmless conversation, the waiter gradually served their dishes.
“The chicken wings sold here are delicious too. Stella, don’t you want to eat that? You can try this.”
“It’s fine, she never really cares about what she eats since young, so it is fine for her to eat this from time to time.” Hayden singled out a chicken wing from the skewer and placed it in Stella’s bowl, “Come have some.”
“I am not worried about Stella. I am more concerned about this young master.” Benjamin glanced at Noah meaningfully, “It seems that he has never eaten anything from a roadside stall. He must be feeling very alienated.”
Hayden looked at Noah and saw that he didn’t have a happy expression on his face, and the bowl of beef noodle in front of him was untouched. He didn’t look very interested in those skewers on the table too.
“What’s wrong, Noah? You don’t feel like eating?” Hayden looked concerned.
Noah shook his head, and he wrote a line on the drawing board, “I want to eat the noodles you make.”
Hayden caressed his head helplessly, “Alright, I will make one for you when we go back home. It’s dinner time now, can you eat something to fill in your stomach? We will be done with this soon and we can go back soon.”
When he heard that, Noah forced himself to nod and started to dig into the noodles.
Noah had been spoiled since he was young, so it was only natural he couldn’t get used to eating in a hot and noisy environment like this stall. Hayden understood that perfectly, and although she wanted to finish this meal as soon as possible so they could leave, Stella was having a great time digging into her food. Things almost got out of control and in the end they took away a packet of chicken wings before leaving.
After dinner, Hayden drove Benjamin back to his hotel before sending the children home.
After they reached home, she made a noodle for Noah, but it seemed that Noah didn’t have a great appetite. He had only finished half of the noodles before putting down his chopsticks.
When it was midnight, Hayden was woken up abruptly by Stella.
“Mummy! Mummy, something’s wrong.”
She sat on the bed groggily, “What’s wrong?”
“Noah is having a stomach ache, and he has rolled onto the floor from his bed.”
Upon hearing that, Hayden could feel her senses became tense almost instantly. She shot up from her bed and scurried to Noah’s bedroom.
Noah was all curled up on the floor, and she almost had a heart attack when she saw that tiny figure on the floor.
“Noah, Noah…”
She placed her hand on his forehead and realized that his body was scorching hot. Just as she wanted to scoop him up, he vomited all over her.
“Mummy, what’s happening?” Stella was deathly pale because of the shock, and her voice was barely audible.
“Stella, you stay put here alone, alright? Go sleep in my room. Mummy needs to bring Noah to the hospital.”
“I will come with you.”
“Listen to me this time.”
After giving Stella some reminders, Hayden carried Noah all the way downstairs to the car without changing her clothes. She sped to the hospital and while she was waiting outside the emergency surgical theater, the butler of the Beckham family arrived in a hurry.
“What’s wrong with the young master? Wasn’t he fine when I saw him in the afternoon?”
Hayden looked apologetic, “I don’t really know either. Seeing that he is vomiting, it must be because he has eaten unhygienic food. When we went for dinner at night at a roadside stall, he had eaten some noodles, but it was not much. He shouldn’t have vomited because of that.”
“Roadside stall?” The butler’s face changed instantly, “How could you let the young master eat at a roadside stall?”
