Chapter 172: This Matter Ends Here
Chapter 172: This Matter Ends Here
Although Jeff looked like he was forced to board a pirate ship, he still got the surveillance video of the accident that day for Hayden in the end.
In the evening, Hayden plugged the flash drive into the computer. She opened the video file and carefully stared at every detail on the screen.
The fire occurred at around 11.30 a.m. At that time, all the senior managers were meeting in the conference room on the second floor. As it was lunchtime, there were many people in the kitchen. Many people came back and forth so it was hard to see if there was any strangeness.
From the screen, it could be seen that the dim sum master, Arnold was baking. Next to him, Baron was acting as an assistant. Seemingly being ordered to replenish the goods, the screen showed that he went away after a while. When he came back, he was with different sizes of dim sum ingredients in his hands.
At 10.54 a.m., the figures of the two children appeared on the screen. Noah was following Stella and they came to the kitchen and stopped in front of Arnold.
Thinking of the fire scene, Hayden’s heart was still fluttering with fear. She took a breath of cold air and continued watching.
Both Stella and Noah liked to eat sweets. It seemed like they had gone there quite a number of times based on the fact that they could familiarly and easily go to the kitchen to find Arnold.
Arnold pointed to the oven and pointed to Baron. Then, the two children followed Baron and left.
After that, the time in which Baron appeared on the screen only happened after the fire.
At 11.10 a.m., Arnold left from the oven.
From the current investigation done by the hotel, at this time, Arnold should have gone to the storeroom to smoke. Arnold was a seriously addicted smoker and this was known by everyone in the hotel. So, many people believed that this should be the reason that caused the fire.
Hayden watched the video from beginning to end. She then removed the unnecessary parts and watched from the middle time once again but she still could not notice any strangeness.
Everything was logical. It indeed looked like a fire accident.
After closing the surveillance video of the kitchen, Hayden checked the video of the storeroom again but she still gained nothing useful.
The main reason for setting up CCTV in the storeroom was to prevent people from stealing things. So, the cameras were only facing the goods on the shelves. Several corners were the blind spots of surveillance so even if someone was standing there, he or she also could not be seen.
The video of the kitchen was even more needless to say. There were too many waiters going back and forth. Other than seeing two little children strutting into the kitchen, she did not gain anything useful.
However, one thing suddenly came to Hayden’s mind.
When the fire broke out, she went to the lounge to look for the two kids. A waiter told her that Noah had been taken to the washroom by the head waiter. This misled her into thinking that Noah was not with Stella.
But now, no matter how hard she thought about it, she could not remember who was the waiter who told her this.
Furthermore, she inexplicably felt that there was something wrong with Baron.
He was obviously in the kitchen with two children but after he came out, he said that only Ms. Downey’s daughter was inside. The people in the hotel knew that Noah was the prince so according to common sense, the first thing he said should be Noah was inside.
Hayden listed the three suspicions of this incident on an A4 paper.
First, the matter that the head waiter took Noah to the washroom was a lie.
Second, it was doubtful that Baron said that Stella was in the fire without mentioning Noah.
Third, why was Noah rescued by someone from the cold store afterward?
While thinking hard about these three things, the sound of opening the door sounded outside the bedroom. Soon, the study door was opened. A hand carrying a take-out packaging box appeared.
“Detective, you also have to eat even you want to solve the case, right?”
Alayna pretended to speak in a cold tone and her voice came through the door.
A trace of warmth appeared in Hayden’s eyes.
While eating, she told Alayna about her thoughts and Alayna was supporting her chin with one hand, pondering, “Why don’t you directly go and ask? Regarding the first thing, you go and look for the waiter who has told you that Noah has gone to the washroom. Regarding the second thing, go and ask Baron. Regarding the third thing, ask Stella or Noah himself. It’s in vain that you keep thinking on your own.”
“I’m intending to go to Guangdong.” This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
Hayden slowly blurted out a sentence. Alayna who was drinking water, choked, “Guangdong? Are you serious, do you really need to put in so much effort just because of this matter? You go all the way to Guangdong which is distant to find Arnold?”
“I want to hear from him personally to see if he was really smoking in the storeroom that day.”
Alayna knew that Hayden was as obstinate as a mule and this time, she was indeed infuriated by Joseph so she definitely could not stop her, “Alright, if you really want to go, just go. I’ll help you to check these few problems that you find strange when I’m free.”
“You?”
Hayden was sceptical.
However, Alayna raised her hair and triumphantly raised her eyebrows, “I have suitors all over my motherland and there is no exception in ST Hotel too.”
Hayden was speechless and helpless, “Don’t let Kevin know otherwise you’ll harm that person.”
Regarding the matter in which Kevin and Alayna were in a relationship, Hayden originally thought that it was simply because the two old hands were flirting with each other to see who was more experienced. In the end, Kevin suddenly became a prodigal son and was now simply an obedient and decent boyfriend. But, Alayna was always making his heart ached. If Kevin knew that she met with her suitor again this time, it could be estimated that this staff of ST Hotel was going to prepare to write a letter of resignation.
In the hospital ward…
Outside the window, the sky became cloudy and it vaguely seemed that the dark clouds were going to cover the sky entirely. The light in the room was a little blinding. When it shone on the white walls, it was as if everything in the room had nowhere to hide.
Addison was in a pink striped hospital gown. One of her hands was bandaged and her other hand was holding a phone. She was making a phone call while standing by the bed.
“You told me it would only be a small fire. It comes to this now, how do you want me to settle it? I think you’re deliberately trying to harm me, right?”
A soft female voice sounded on the other end of the phone, “What benefit will I gain for harming you? Hasn’t I explained it, it was an accident that the fire went out of control. Besides, isn’t that I’ve done the safety precautions. I’ve said that Noah won’t get injured. When you went in, wasn’t he in the cold store? I’ve given you such a good idea to get back Joseph’s heart but you’re still complaining about me?”
“Don’t give yourself so much credit. The reason you help me is only that you detest Hayden so you’re absolutely not helping me,” Addison’s face darkened and she said while her heart was still throbbing with fear.
“It’s because I’ve risked my life to save him this time, what if I didn’t dare? What if Noah really gets injured? You’re really scary.”
When she saw the fire, she was totally frightened. It was totally a far cry from what she had expected. If it was not because she feared that Noah would really get injured and she had bitten the bullet to go in, the consequences would be horribly disastrous.
Now, it seemed that this woman, Viola absolutely intended to harm everyone. She even dared to carry out a plan that would harm human lives, what else would she not dare to do?
“Viola, I warn you, this matter ends here. I also don’t want anyone to create rumours that this is related to Hayden. My cooperation with you is over.”
Addison’s voice was cold with a few tremors. Her voice was lowered immensely in the room.
“Over?” The person on the other end of the phone sneered, “What do you think Joseph will think of you if I tell him the truth?”
