Chapter 239: It’s Not Too Late to Stop Now
Joseph’s face turned gloomy instantly, but he showed no intention to speak.
Hayden started to take for granted. She deliberately teased him, “In fact, if you have some weird preferences, it can be understood. Moreover, your sexual orientation has always been an unsolved mystery in Nanking. I don’t think there is a need to keep it a secret. I’m just curious, what is it that can make two people start a fight on a bed?”
Joseph’s expression turned even darker than before. He seemed to be trying to push down his anger.
“Could it be that it was because you didn't have enough fun? Or you fight because you haven’t decided on who will be up and who will be at the bottom, and you started fighting?”
Joseph saw that Hayden talking more and more ridiculously, and he saw Magnus’ s expression from the back mirror. Magnus was trying not to laugh out loud until his face turned red.
Joseph’s face was as black as the bottom of a pot.
“Aren’t you the person who knows the most about my sexual orientation and weird preferences?”
The deep voice reverberated in the car, which made Hayden’s ridicule disappeared in a flash.
Hayden’s face instantly blushed in redness. For that instance, she was speechless, and she didn't even dare to look up.
He was such a rascal, how could he say such things?
As he saw Hayden settled down, his expression eased immediately. He took a slight glance at her. He noticed that she wasn’t that shameless as she acted just now. He only said so little and so briefly, but she was blushing already.
It was a bit stuffy inside the car. In addition, no one wanted to speak anymore. This made the atmosphere even repressed too.
Joseph realized that he seemed to be speaking too bluntly, and Hayden seemed to be uncomfortable about it. Hence, he started to regret. He found that no matter what Hayden did, or how annoyed he was, he could not resist Hayden to occupy an important spot in his heart.
When they reached the hospital, the doctor simply treated the wound on Joseph’s face. Then, he arranged him to do a chest X-ray to avoid any potential injuries in his ribs.
When Magnus went to get the medicine, and the doctor went out to treat other patients, there were only two of them left in the emergency room. They were speechless.
Hayden clutched her bag, hesitated for a while, and said, “Since you are okay, I will leave first.”
Before she could take a step forward, Joseph’s cold voice came from her side, “Aren’t you going to give me an explanation of what happened today?”
Hayden froze for a moment, “What kind of explanation do you need?”
“Samuel asked you to go to the hotel, and you literally went. Don’t you tell me that you went to the hotel just to discuss some business matters with him.”
He doubted her again.
Originally, Hayden was touched because she knew that Joseph appeared in the hotel to find her. She knew that he did that for her but now her feelings were disintegrated by his questioning.
She couldn't understand that what else she can do in the hotel if she was not there to just discuss about business matters.
When she thought of this, the meaning behind his words was clear.
“That’s my own business.” Hayden glanced at him angrily. All her feelings were wasted.
“You didn't tell me what you did in the hotel, so why should I tell you? I’ve got things to do. I’m leaving.”
She turned and left as she finished her words.
“Don’t you know why I appeared at the hotel? Hayden Downey, are you that insensitive?”
His voice came from behind. He seemed furious as he said that.
Hayden tried to calm herself down and said coldly, “Well, I thank you for doing that for me, and I also exempted you from Samuel’s smashing you. Hence, it’s a tie, Mr. Beckham.”
“What if I didn't go? What are you going to do?”
“I’ll do whatever I should do. I thought you’ve planned everything for me?” Hayden turned her back on him. She turned her head to face him. Her eyes were filled with estrangement.
She looked so skimpy and ignorant. Her attitude made Joseph’s chest surged with anger. Without any hesitations, he yanked her wrist and directly turned her around, and in the midst of her shock, alarm and struggle, she was pressed on the surgical bed viciously.
“What are you doing? Let go of me.” Hayden struggled with all her strength, but she was afraid of being heard by people outside, so she dared not make loud movements.
His robust arms were placed beside her shoulders, and his shadow covered her, like she was imprisoned by it and she couldn't move.
He stared at the woman underneath his body. Joseph started to have a deep sense of powerlessness. He gritted his teeth as he said, “Hayden, do you know that you are repeatedly challenging my bottom
line? You are making me feel that I was a fool to fell in love with a woman like you.”
When she heard this, her heart felt extremely uneasy. Then, she said with anger, “No one will be foolish forever. It’s not too late to stop now.” Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“It is too late.”
Joseph continued staring at her. His hands clenched into fists, squeezing her shoulders until they creaked. He leaned forward, ignoring her painful and contorted expression, “It hurts? When I heard you say these words, the pain in my heart is 10,000 times more serious than this. It is hard to imagine that my heart will be so painful because of a woman. But what are you doing when I’m in pain? Go live happily with the guy who gave you the green card? A happy family of three living together?”
Hayden bit her lower lip and tried to bear with the pain. She refused to make a sound. She tolerated too much pain, which made her eyes filled with tears. She hated this man so much. He was the one that caused so many tragedies happening on her. She was the one who was suffering but he was at ease. And yet, he came and questioned her, as if he was the victim.
“Are you done humiliating me? If you’re done, just let go of me.” Her words were squeezed out from between her teeth. The cold sweat at the side of her forehead dripped on the snow-white pillow and soon disappeared.
However, Joseph did not have the intention to let go of her at all. He was hoping that she will fight back, struggle or even yell at him, but she was resisting him in such an indifferent way. It made him feel like he was punching on a pillow, where his strength would bounced back and only hurt himself.
“You find this humiliating?”
His eyes were cold, “What happens after I let you go? Continue to call the police? Sue me for rape?”
When the past was mentioned again, it would not represent the good old days, but the cruelest scars of the breakup. No one would feel good when they saw the bloody scars laid in front of their eyes. Hayden’s heart tightened for a second when she heard that. She was afraid that he may do something extreme in the next second. Fear filled her eyes instantly.
Her fear fell into Joseph’s eyes, even the fluorescent lamp above his head couldn't hide her fears. He looked startled and repented. Then, he slowly let go of her hand and sat up.
He once thought that he was the controller of his emotions and that no one could really influence him, but when he met Hayden, it was as if a big bug had suddenly appeared in the precise structure of his life, and everything had changed its course.
He accidentally heard that Samuel was taking her to the hotel when he was at the dinner party. Since then, he was distracted for the whole dinner party afterwards. He wondered how crazy she would be. Would she really run to the hotel to find him for the project? After all, this woman once married a guy casually for a green card.
When he thought about this, he was annoyed that such an unpleasant woman who would do anything for the sake of her purpose had lingered on his heart for so long.
“Get lost.” He suddenly said.
His voice was damped and hoarse, which showed a sense of loneliness.
Hayden moved aside. Her hands, which were clutching tightly on her bag, loosen a little as she heard this. Her nerves also soothed down a bit.
