Chapter 18.

Nelly’s POV.

I lay on my bed, staring out the window. Outside, the night was dark and still, the only light coming from the moon. My eyes burned from crying, and my body ached. | was exhausted, both physically and emotionally.

But my brain wouldn't let me rest. It was racing with thoughts and questions, all of them swirling around in my head like a tornado. | tried to focus on one thing, but it was impossible. My thoughts were a jumbled mess, and | felt like | was drowning in them.

Suddenly, | heard the door creak open, and the light flicked on. | didn’t bother looking up to see who it was. | just lay there, my eyes fixed on the ceiling.

Then, | heard a clearing of the throat, a sound | recognized all too well. It was Alpha Kex. | clenched my jaw, my muscles tensed. | knew | should turn to face him, but | couldn’t bring myself to do it. | didn’t want to face the man who had hurt me so deeply. | didn’t want to see the man who had betrayed me.

“Undress,” he said, his voice calm but firm.

| didn’t move, my body frozen in place. | knew that | was pushing my luck, that | was provoking him. But | was beyond caring. My heart was full of pain and anger, and | couldn’t bring myself to comply.

“Nelly, don’t test my patience,” he said, his tone growing more serious,

But | still didn’t move, my gaze fixed on the wall in front of me. | was a ticking time bomb, and | knew it.

“Nelly,” he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

| forced myself to look at him, meeting his gaze. “What will you do if | don’t undress?” | asked, my voice trembling. “Will you beat me up, like you did earlier?”

| watched as he stared at me, his eyes wide with surprise. For a moment, he didn’t say anything. Then, he took a deep breath and spoke. “That’s not what | will do,” he said, his voice softening. | stared at him for a while, then moved my gaze.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

“lam not here to play Nelly, Undress right now,” he said, his voice stern.

| moved my gaze to him, | held his gaze for, my heart pounding. “No, Alpha Kex,” | said,

my voice quiet but firm. “I won’t undress. | will put on this dress, and you won't do anything about it.”

| heard him let out a sharp breath, his surprise evident. “You dare defy me?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

| took a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever would come next. “Yes, Alpha Kex,” | said, my voice steady. “I dare.”

He strode towards me, and | could feel his presence looming over me. He grabbed my face, his fingers digging into my cheeks, forcing me to look at him.

“How dare you?” he said, his voice low and menacing. | didn’t speak, choosing instead to meet his gaze with defiance. “How dare you?” he repeated, his voice rising. | remained silent, refusing to back down.

His grip on my face tightened, and | could feel my skin burning under his touch. “You are pushing your luck, Nelly,” he said, his tone dangerous.

The anger | felt was like a fire in my veins, and without thinking, | spat at him. My saliva landed on his face, and he looked at me in disgust. As he wiped it away, | took my chance.

| jumped to my feet, my movements quick and sure. | stood in front of him, my fists clenched, ready to fight. He looked at me, his eyes full of anger. | could see the fury building in him, and | knew | had to be ready for whatever was about to happen.

As he rose to his feet and started to advance towards me, | glanced around the room, searching for something | could use to defend myself. My eyes landed on the hairpin | had placed on the nightstand earlier. | quickly grabbed it, my fingers shaking as | held it tight.

“If you come any closer,” | warned, my voice trembling. “I promise | will stab you with this.” But my words had no effect. He kept coming closer, his eyes burning with rage. | could feel the fear rising inside me.

My hand shook as he easily knocked the hairpin from my grasp. | felt fear rising in my chest, but | tried to push it down. | couldn't let him see how afraid | was.

“You are a fool to think that would scare me,” he said, his voice cold and hard. | felt my heart sk ip a beat. My whole body ached with tension, and | could feel my legs trembling.

“You can’t scare me,” | said, my voice sounding hollow even to my ears.

His lips were inches from mine, and | could feel his breath on my face. | didn’t move, frozen in fear. And then, he leaned forward, and his lips pressed against mine. | felt a wave of nausea, and | knew | had to get away.

With all the strength | could muster, | brought my leg up and kicked him hard in the shin. He gasped in pain, and | used the opportunity to run for the bathroom. | slammed the door behind me and locked it, leaning against it, my heart pounding in my chest.

| heard the door handle jig gle, and | knew he was trying to get in. Then, there was a loud bang as he threw himself against the door.

“Nelly!” he yelled, his voice full of anger. “Open the door!” | took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.

“No!” | yelled back. “You can go stay with your precious Emily!”

| heard him scoff. “You know | only did what | did because you hurt her first,” he said, his voice dripping with disgust.

“Liar!” | said, my voice trembling. “She pushed me first. | was just defending myself.”

There was a pause, and then he said, “Then why didn’t you just push her back? Why go as far as cutting her with a dagger?” My heart stopped. “A dagger?” | asked, my voice barely a whisper.

“Yes,” he said, his tone ice-cold. “I saw the wound. Don’t bother lying.”

| couldn't believe what | was hearing.

“| didn’t cut her!” | protested, but he didn’t respond. | waited in the deafening silence, my heart pounding in my chest.

| could hear him breathing heavily on the other side of the door, and | knew he was getting angrier by the second. “Nelly,” he said, his voice calmer this time, but still firm. “Come out and let's talk.”

But | stayed silent. | would rather not talk. | just wanted to get out of there. The banging on the door grew louder and more insistent.

| frantically searched for a way to escape. My eyes landed on the water closet, and | rushed over to it. | closed it and climbed, | opened the window, and | peered out.

It was too high to jump — I'd break my legs if | tried. But | knew it was better than being caught by Alpha Kex in his current state. 3/4

Chapter 19.

Nelly’s POV.

| heard the bathroom door creak open, and my heart stopped. | turned around, my body frozen in terror. Alpha Kex was standing there, his eyes filled with a fury I’d never seen before. He took one step, then another, coming closer to me with each stride.

| couldn’t move. | was rooted to the spot, unable to run or scream or do anything to defend myself. | could feel my heart pounding in my chest, my breathing quickening. My entire body felt numb, as if it had been enveloped in ice. And yet, underneath it all, there was a fire burning in my heart.

He grabbed me, his strong hands wrapping around my arms. | thrashed and fought against him, but he was too strong.

“Let me go!” | screamed, but my words were lost in the thundering of my heart.

| kept fighting, my fists raining down on his back, my legs kicking out at him, but he didn’t react. He just kept walking, carrying me like | was a rag doll. | could barely breathe, my chest heaving with every labored breath.

He released his grip and | fell to the bed, the mattress soft beneath me. | looked up at him, my body trembling, my mind racing with fear. He was staring at me, his eyes cold and unreadable.

“Undress,” he said, his voice low and calm.

| swallowed hard, my throat dry, as | reached for the hem of my shirt. | pulled it over my head, my movements slow. | turned my back to him, my hands shaking as | began to unzip my pants.

| could hear him breathing, the sound slow and steady, but | couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

He rose from the bed, his movements slow and deliberate, and walked to the wardrobe. | watched, my mind reeling with questions, as he opened the door and reached inside. He pulled out a first aid kit, and my stomach sank.

“What are you doing?” | asked, my voice cracking with fear.

He turned to look at me, a strange, distant expression on his face. “What does it look

| tried to speak, but my words stuck in my throat. | could feel my pulse in my temples, my heart racing.

“Lie down,” he said, his voice calm and authoritative. | complied, my limbs heavy and weak, my limbs aching as | lay on the bed. He kneeled beside me, opening the first aid kit and removing a pair of tweezers and an antiseptic wipe.

“This is going to sting,” he warned, but | didn’t respond.

| kept my eyes closed, my mind spinning. He began to clean the cuts and scrapes on my skin, and | bit back a scream as the alcohol stung my wounds. | could feel my heart beating in my ears, the sound nearly deafening.

“You make me do things | would rather not do,” he said, his voice soft but tinged with

anger.

| could feel tears welling in my eyes, but | couldn’t look at him. “I didn’t cut you dear, Emily,” | said, my voice breaking. “You didn’t even ask me!”

My words hung in the air, and | held my breath, waiting for his response. But he was silent. The room was still, the only sound was the ticking of the clock on the wall. | closed my eyes, willing the moment to end.

He finished bandaging the cuts and gently helped me to my feet. “Why didn’t you ask Aisha to help you clean your wounds?” he asked, his voice soft but insistent.

| kept my gaze on the floor, unable to look him in the eye. “I couldn’t walk to her,” | said, my voice barely above a whisper. “l was unable to leave the room.”

Along silence hung in the air, the only sound the rustle of the curtains in the breeze. | could feel his eyes on me, and | wanted to flee, to run and hide.

“I'm sorry,” he said, his voice quiet but clear.

| stared at him in shock, my eyes wide. I’d never heard him apologize before, and it was almost inconceivable. The Alpha Kex | knew was ruthless, cold, and calculating. He always had a reason for everything he did, and never felt any remorse.

But here he was, apologizing to me. | couldn’t tell whether he was sincere or not. His expression was as impenetrable as ever, and | was unable to read his thoughts. We stood there, frozen in time, for what felt like an eternity.

“Emily was my late beta sister,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “We were close,
