Revenge Against My Ex-husband

Chapter 93 More to Keep Them Awake at Night

Chapter 93 More to Keep Them Awake at Night

Margaret said that Edric would send them home, but it was John who drove them back instead. Lily

and Deborah sat at the back while Edric was in the passenger seat. Although there were four of them

in the car, the atmosphere was unusually depressing. Not one word was spoken on the way.

John glanced at Edric in confusion. Why did he feel that Edric was in a bad mood? What happened?

When they arrived at the Cook family, Edric did not get out of the car. Lily, too, did not cling to him as

usual. Instead, she bid goodbye to him sensibly and left.

As Edric's car vanished from their visions, Lily exhaled and asked, "Mom, do you think Margaret

believed what you told her?"

"Even if she doesn't, I'll make her believe it!" Deborah huffed. She felt her face growing stiff from all the

forced smiles she had to put on just for the sake of explaining things to Margaret earlier in the day.

Thinking that all this happened because of Irene, she cursed in a low voice, "D*mn that little b*tch! She

came back right at this time on purpose. D*mn it!"

"Yeah, I was so nervous today. I thought she would make a scene, but unexpectedly, she did nothing,"

Lily agreed.

"By the way, how's it going with Edric?" Deborah asked.

"He trusts my words. Seems like there'll be no problems for the time being," Lily answered.

"You're right. Edric has always thought that you're innocent. Besides, he's been feeling guilty towards

you that you're not able to give birth. He probably won't suspect you. But you have to be careful in the

future," Deborah reminded Lily.

She continued, "Everything is good about Edric, but he's just too respectful to Margaret. If Irene had

made the effort to please Margaret back then, she wouldn't have ended up in such a pathetic state. You

must remember that no matter what happens, don't provoke Margaret. As long as Margaret's happy,

the same will be for Edric."

Lily nodded. Thinking of how Margaret had threatened Edric to divorce Irene with her life, Lily made up

her mind that she must coax Margaret well and must never slack off in flattering the latter.

Deborah and Lily stood at the door for a while. Only then they opened the door and entered the house.

Irene had already woken up from her nap and was having her meal in the dining room. Maisy and

Steven sat on the side and looked at her.

After having a shower and some sleep, Irene looked much refreshed. She was not as lethargic as she

was at noon this day. Maisy made spaghetti for dinner before Irene ate it with relish. "Maisy, it's been a

long time since I last had your spaghetti. It still tastes as good!"

Maisy looked at Irene lovingly. "From now on, I'll make you whatever you like every day!"

"Thank you!" Irene gave Maisy a sweet smile and continued to tuck in the spaghetti.

Steven heard the noise and turned around. When he saw Deborah and Lily, he spoke blandly, "You're

back."

Deborah walked over with a beam on her face and asked, "Steven, why do you let Irene eat spaghetti?

We should bring her out to a restaurant."

"Irene said she didn't want to trouble us, so she asked Maisy to make some spaghetti for her," Steven

answered.

"I'll personally prepare a meal tomorrow to welcome Irene back into the house," Deborah said.

Irene gobbled up the remaining spaghetti and put down the cutlery. She got up from the table and

spoke, "I'm full now. I'll be heading upstairs. Maisy, please help me settle the dishes!"

Irene had ignored Deborah completely. Deborah wasn't angry in the slightest bit either; her face was

still full of smiles.

Steven was satisfied with Deborah's behavior. When he saw Irene went upstairs, he gestured at

Deborah to go to the study. After closing the door, he asked, "Margaret didn't say anything, did she?"

"No, she's just very surprised about Irene. I told her that Irene was taken away by Thomas when she

was a child. We never heard anything from Irene until recently," Deborah answered.

Steven nodded. "Whether she believes it or not, that's it. She's one evil woman too. When I saw how

aggressive she was towards Irene today, I'm really worried that Lily will suffer a similar fate..."

"Lily will be fine. Margaret didn't know Irene was your daughter back then, but Lily's different. She has

to treat Lily well out of respect to you," Deborah reasoned.

Steven agreed. He was so delighted at the fact Irene had decided to move back home. He told

Deborah, "Now that Irene's back, you must remember to be nice to her. Humans are emotional beings.

If you treat her well, she'll certainly change her mind towards you."

"I know. Don't worry. I'll treat Irene like my own daughter," Deborah responded.

Steven's tone no longer sounded as harsh as he muttered, "Thank you!"

When Edric returned home, Margaret had been waiting for him in the living room for a long time. "Edric,

why are you back so late?"

Edric walked over to her and sat down, asking, "Mom, why are you still up?"

"Can't you see I'm waiting for you? How could I sleep when such a big thing happened? I'm waiting for

you to come back and discuss this with me," Margaret answered.

"Is there anything to be discussed?" he questioned.

"Aren't you surprised?" Margaret was very dissatisfied with Edric's composure. "I've seen so many

things in my life, but never have I come across something so outrageous. Irene and Lily are actually

siblings, but why don't they look alike at all?"

"Even biological twins won't look like each other, let alone the half-siblings," Edric answered plainly.

"Thomas was so cruel. No matter how much he hated Steven, he shouldn't have dragged Irene down

with him! If Irene had grown up with Steven, she would definitely be more charming and perfect..."

Margaret sighed.

"Sure, if you knew that she was Steven's daughter, you would surely not treat her like how you did. Am

I right?" Edric's voice was as calm as a millpond, but the irony in his speech was apparent.

Margaret tittered awkwardly. "Well, I had you divorce her because she couldn't give birth to a child. It

had nothing to do with her identity."

"In the kind of environment when she was with us, it's normal that she couldn't get pregnant." Edric let

out a sneer.

"Let's not talk about this first. You have to be careful with the Cooks from now on. Since Irene has

reunited with Steven, she might very likely pull tricks on us," Margaret reminded him.

"Are you worried that she'll take revenge on you?" He scoffed. "Then why did you do all those things to

her back then?"

"Edric, didn't I do it for you? Everything I did was for your own good! You have to be careful of Irene. I

always felt that she returned with evil intentions this time. She'll definitely find a way to go against us!"

Margaret knew that Edric felt uncomfortable talking about Irene, but Margaret was not at peace either.

She was well aware of Irene's hostility towards her. It seemed that Steven also regarded Irene rather

dearly too. It could clearly be seen from the drastic change in his attitude towards Margaret earlier in

the day.

Didn't Deborah say that it was Irene who interfered in the urban construction project? If Irene continued

to sabotage them in the future, the sports tournament they were working on would be ruined too.

That was why she stayed in the living room and waited for Edric to come back to discuss how to

remedy the situation. However, she did not expect to be met with his indifference and lack of alertness,

as if it was none of his business.

"If she wants to have revenge, then let her be!" Edric looked impatient.

"Have you ever thought about it? Irene is dead weight. With her in your way, Steven would give you

less support," Margaret warned him.

"Mom, will the company go bankrupt if I don't have Steven's help?" Edric asked in return.

"No, I know you're capable. But I'm not assured looking at you fighting alone. That's why I have to find

someone who'll help you in the business to marry you. It seems that we have to put the marriage with

Lily on hold," Margaret stated.

"Why?" Edric was bewildered and asked, "You want to break off the marriage?"

"If Steven won't support you, there's absolutely no need for this union!" Margaret replied confidently.

"You'd better be sure of yourself." Edric was vexed. "It's you who asked them for marriage, and now it's

you who want to break it off. I'm not going to sugarcoat my words. I'll have you know that Steven is not

the same as the old Irene. You'd better not go for wool and come home shorn!"

After being retorted by Edric, Margaret flounced herself down onto the sofa in disappointment.

Looking at Margaret, Edric's heart felt incredibly heavy. He knew that she was snobbish, but he did not

know that she was this crazed for power. It was not because of love that Edric agreed to be engaged to

Lily. Well, it was the same for him to marry anyone if Irene would not return to him. Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

When he saw Margaret calculating everything about the marriage, he could not imagine how she would

lash out if she found out that Lily was, too, infertile. Thinking of the time when Margaret wanted him to

marry Lily so desperately, a sneer appeared at the corner of his mouth. This must be their retribution.

The Myers family was destined not to have an heir. He stood up coldly and hissed, "I'm tired. I'm going

upstairs to rest!"

Margaret felt a little depressed when she saw his stony expression. Ever since Irene was driven out, he

had become more and more impatient when they had a conversation.

But she did not feel that she was in the wrong. Everything she had done was for Edric; why didn't he

appreciate it?

Irene went back to her room and made a phone call to Thomas, saying that she had returned to the

Cook family. Thomas was positively astonished. After she told him the reason for her return, he

exhaled deeply. "Irene, you have to be careful. Deborah is not easy to deal with."

"Don't worry, Uncle Thomas. I'll be careful," Irene responded.

After hanging up the phone, Irene lay on the bed and kept shifting around. She could not fall asleep.

She wasn't as composed as she seemed to be outwardly when she witnessed Edric and Lily receiving

blessings from everyone on the stage this day. Like an experienced actress, she had hidden all the

discomfort she had inside.

She tried her best to smile the brightest at those who had hurt her the deepest. She knew that Margaret

would definitely know her identity this day. Margaret must be shocked. They must not be able to fall

asleep this night, must they? They could be assured though. There would be more to keep them awake

in the future!

Irene turned herself over. The purpose of her return was not only to get Steven's assets, but also

Edric's sperm. Obtaining Steven's assets should be a piece of cake, but the sperm was huge trouble.

How could she get Edric's sperm? Did she have to seduce him and sleep with him? She shook her

head. This method would not work. Even if she could endure the disgust in her and spent an after-dark

with Edric, it was still unknown whether she could get pregnant or not.

She had slept with him more than often in the three years of their marriage, but she did not find out that

she was pregnant until right before their divorce.

She had just undergone Fallopian tube anastomosis. It should be very difficult for her to conceive

naturally at this point in time. There was only one way, which was to steal his sperm! But how should

she do that?

She remembered that she had read a story before. There was a woman who stole sperm from the

condom in order to get pregnant with another man's child. That woman in the story managed to be

pregnant eventually.

This approach might work. Since Edric and Lily were already engaged, they would surely sleep

together. If she could replace their condoms with those without spermicide, and retrieve the condoms

after they used them...

It was just that they would not use condoms, would they? After all, Margaret was very eager to have a

grandchild. Edric was such an obedient child that he would definitely satisfy her wish.

Irene sighed. None of the ways would work. What should she do?
