Chapter 710 The Departure of the old Mrs. Lawson
Not long after, the old Mrs. Lawson released Sophia from her embrace. She couldn't continue holding
her like that, or else she wouldn't be able to leave.
The old Mrs. Lawson approached Laura, and despite the many things left unsaid between them as
mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, she knew that if she didn't speak now, there might never be another
chance.
"Laura!" The old Mrs. Lawson called out.
Laura couldn't hold back her tears any longer and began crying.
"Good child," the old Mrs. Lawson said while trying to comfort Laura,"It is I who should cry and
apologize for my behavior towards you all these years."
"For decades I disliked you; I gave you a hard time and even threatened Abbott to divorce you on
multiple occasions." She continued speaking with regret in her voice,"Now I realize my mistakes; I
know that what I've done is unforgivable but everything related to the Lawson family is now in your
hands."
Laura was unable to bear this kind of responsibility being placed upon her shoulders; she shook her
head while crying out, "Mom! Please don't say such things! It's not your fault!"
"You are a good child who has never held grudges against me." The old Mrs. Lawson replied with
remorseful eyes,"But as a mother who has committed so many wrongs against you over the years, it's
difficult for me to ask for your forgiveness."
"Mom! Please stop blaming yourself!" Laura cried harder as she spoke,"I have never blamed or
resented you!"
"You are too kind-hearted." the old Mrs. Lawson sighed deeply before continuing,"For making me
happy, you gave birth to four sons - each one of them exceptional - but still it wasn't enough for me
because of my own shortcomings... I owe them all an apology just like how much I owe it to you.
Laura... it was all my fault!"
Laura shook her head again in disbelief.
"I know Sophia would always be your little princess no matter what and you chose to take her side
every time, which only intensified our conflicts further. Yet it was not your fault. I realized it too late."
"This may be our last goodbye before we part ways forever." She paused briefly before saying, "But
don't worry, Laura. I hope in our next life, you will be my daughter-in-law once again, and if possible, I
wish for nothing more than having you as my daughter instead."
The words spoken by the the old Mrs. Lawson made Laura cry even harder than before.
Between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, they had never spoken to each other like this before. It
was the first time, and perhaps the only time in their lives.
"Alright, don't be sad anymore. I'm leaving now. You all take care of yourselves, and I'll feel at ease!"
The old Mrs. Lawson glanced at Drake, indicating that he could take her away.
Drake nodded.
Suddenly Laura shouted, "Mom!"
The old Mrs. Lawson turned to look at her, both of their eyes were red. The scene infected others too;
everyone's eyes turned red as well.
Finally, the old Mrs. Lawson steeled herself and walked forward.
Laura shouted after her, "Mom! You don't have to worry about anything at home or William's affairs; we
will do our best for you! Take care of yourself; we're all waiting for you to come back!"
The old Mrs. Lawson didn't turn around or react in any way.
Drake followed behind them and signaled that they didn't need to worry because he would safely escort
them where they needed to go.
Until their figures disappeared from everyone's sight, Laura held Abbott tightly while crying
uncontrollably.
The four brothers looked towards Sophia together; no one spoke but understood what each other was
thinking deep down inside.
Bonnie suddenly asked, "Mommy, are we never going to see Great-grandma again?"
Sophia hugged Bonnie, "No dearie... it's just that we'll see your great-grandma less often from now on."
"Because she is getting older? She can't come back here but we can go visit her there, right?"
There were some things Sophia couldn't explain fully - Sure they could visit the old Mrs. Lawson but it
would mostly have to be done secretly since if Cathy found out, she'd surely cause trouble again.
They weren't afraid of Cathy - it was just that they were afraid that the old Mrs. Lawson couldn't stand This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
constant bothering.
William soon found out about his mother leaving; he came over looking worriedly asking "Where's
Mom? Has she already left?"
Abbott nodded his head saying "Yes, she has."
"Why didn't you tell me when she left?" William asked anxiously.
"You can't even control your own daughter so why should we tell you?"
William understood, "Is it because of Cathy kidnapping Sophia? Mom told me about it before. Since
this is my daughter's fault, I should take responsibility."
"Forget it, the matter has already passed," Abbott didn't want to say anything more.
"No, I'm going to switch with Mom and bring her back. I'll deal with Cathy properly," William said as he
was about to leave.
"Enough!" Abbott was really getting a headache. "Mom and Cathy are already on their way abroad.
What use is there for you to follow them? Besides, do you think that by switching places with Mom, you
can solve your daughter's problem?"
William looked defeated. "Bro, what you said is right. I really can't control my daughter but I also can't
let our mom go like this! It won't be long before she..."
"Alright then! Mom knows what she's doing and just stay put here without causing any trouble!" Abbott
looked helpless.
It's true that every family has its own problems.
Abbott sighed deeply.
"I regret not educating my daughter well enough; I've thought it through. When I got a son, I would train
him into someone excellent, just like your children." William made up his mind silently.
Abbott looked at him. "What did you just say?"
William appeared confused. "About having a son? Well... I'm still young and wealthy; plenty of women
would love to have children for me especially since I don't have any male heirs yet so why not continue
having kids?"
Abbott was so infuriated that he couldn't even speak, "William, listen carefully! If you squander all of
your money, you can't get it from me. To level with you, if your money is used for good deeds, I will
mind your business. If not, we're no longer brothers!"
"You're exaggerating, Abbott. Am I so untrustworthy?" William replied in disbelief.
The five nephews and nieces all stared at him as if saying 'Are you sure you're trustworthy?' But they
didn't bother saying anything else to him either way.
William got the hint quickly enough and left soon after that.
When Drake returned home later on, his four older brothers were still there waiting for news from him.
Drake told them that Cathy and the old Mrs. Lawson had been safely sent abroad and everything had
been arranged. There were a few bodyguards there, and if Cathy was not obedient, they would take
action to lecture her. This greatly ensured that the old Mrs. Lawson would live a little longer.
