Vera transferred the money on her phone and said, “Given the damage to your car, transferring you ten thousand dollars should be enough to cover the repairs. If it’s not enough, just let me know.”
Then she stepped out of the car. “Were you here eating by yourself?”
Vera looked into Skylar’s car, scanning for Joe, but didn’t see him.
Skylar simply accepted the money transfer. “If there’s any issue with my car, I’ll contact you. I’m leaving now,” she said as she opened the door and got in.
The location wasn’t ideal for lingering around. They were still blocking the exit from the parking lot. Besides, Skylar didn’t have much to say to Vera anyway. Their relationship had always been distant. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Vera frowned as Skylar got into the car without responding further. A sense of frustration flared up. She thought, “What kind of attitude was that? Did she not even hear me?”
She got back into her car, her irritation growing. She quickly stomped the gas and followed Skylar out of the lot.
Skylar drove for a while, making a few turns. As she waited at a traffic light at an intersection, Skylar glanced in her rearview mirror and spotted a familiar car.
It was the same one that had rear–ended her earlier–Vera’s. She wondered if Vera had been following her this whole time or if it was just a coincidence.
After crossing the light, Skylar noticed Vera was still right behind her.
Skylar passed two more streets before deciding to pull over. Vera followed and parked behind her.
She exited the car and walked toward Skylar’s window, signaling her to step out. Skylar got out of the car as well.
“You’ve been following me for a while now. Care to explain why?” Skylar asked directly.
Vera’s actions and attitude were starting to get on her nerves.
Vera was momentarily stunned by Skylar’s direct question. She hadn’t really planned to follow Skylar. It had just been a spur–of–the–moment decision driven by frustration. As Skylar confronted her, she found herself at a loss for words.
“I… I just wanted you to call the car dealership. See how much it would cost to fix the damage from the accident,” Vera finally said, grasping at an excuse.
Skylar scoffed and said, “Didn’t you just transfer ten thousand dollars to me? You said I could contact you later if it weren’t enough.
“I’ll take the car in for repairs this weekend. Once I have the exact cost, I’ll send you the receipt. I won’t take advantage of you.”
Vera’s brow furrowed with irritation at Skylar’s dismissive tone. “What’s with your attitude? Is this about the photo I sent you of Joe and me at the reunion? Are you really so jealous that you’re still mad?
“You need to reflect on yourself instead of being jealous of me. My relationship with Joe isn’t something that disappears just because you’re jealous.”
Skylar’s expression barely changed. “Jealous? Of you and Joe? If you have time to throw accusations at me, maybe you should use it to spend more time with him. Go ahead, relive your memories, build up whatever connection you think you have–I’m not stopping you.

“But do you even know what you’re doing right now? You’re acting like a secret mistress, hiding in the shadows. If you can manage to get Joe to divorce me, I might think more highly of you. Otherwise, I don’t care who you are in the Ruell family. It has nothing to do with me.”
Skylar couldn’t make sense of Vera’s thought process, especially how she seemed to bring Joe into every conversation. Her patience, already thin, was now completely worn out.
Upon hearing Skylar’s words, Vera’s face flushed with anger. She asked, “Skylar, do you even realize what you’re saying?”
She couldn’t believe Skylar had called her a secret mistress. She wondered who the real secret mistress actually was.
Everyone believed she was Joe’s perfect match. Their families were compatible, and they had been close for years. But Skylar came from an ordinary background.
Skylar pulled open her car door and got into the car. Then she rolled down the window to give Vera one last look and said, “I know exactly what I’m saying. Ms. Ruell, next time you see me, feel free to take
another route. Stop following me around.”
With that, she hit the gas and sped off.
Vera stood there, too furious to even react at first. She stomped her foot, rage boiling over. “Skylar.”

She wondered who gave Skylar the nerve to speak to her like that. She dared to act so high and mighty and even called her a mistress.
One day, Joe would see Skylar’s true colors, and then she would be the one left in the dust–the real mistress.
