Richest Mogul 1025
Chapter 1025
Skylar knew that Alexander didn’t quite believe her explanation, but there was no way she could tell him about her rebirth.
“It doesn’t matter when I started thinking about a divorce. Once Grandma feels better in a few days, I’m planning to leave Jipsburg for a while. I’ve already handed my resignation to Mr. Gardner Senior.”
Skylar lowered her head, unable to meet Joe’s eyes. She took a few bites of steak before finally responding.
Joe’s expression changed instantly. He couldn’t believe that Skylar wanted to leave Jipsburg and that she had even quit her job.
Joe stared intently at S‘
, as if searching her eyes for any lingering attachment to him or to Gloria.
“You’re that eager to get away from me?” he asked with a mocking smile.
“It’s not that. I’ve never wanted to get away from you,” Skylar answered immediately.
“Or are you just afraid I’ll stop you from being with Aiken?” Joe asked again.
Skylar replied in a low voice, “My decision to divorce has nothing to do with anyone else. It’s because being with you was a mistake from the very beginning. If I hadn’t made that phone call back then, maybe none of this would have happened. It’s my fault.”
After she finished explaining, Skylar stood up and said, “I’m full. I’m heading home. Tomorrow–I’ll see you
at the courthouse.”
Joe kept his eyes on her until she walked away, and only then did he shift his gaze.
He lowered his eyes and remained silent for a long time before calling Paul. “Find out who Skylar has been meeting with recently.”
After Paul agreed, Joe was about to hang up and call Alexander when Paul quickly added, “Mr. Martin, before you go, there’s something you should know. I’ve just received some new information.
“The person I had monitoring Molly informed me that, before you and Mrs. Martin left Jipsburg, Molly had met with Ms. Ruell.
“Lately, Molly has either been going to the spa or shopping at high–end boutiques. She hasn’t met with anyone suspicious, only some of the society ladies from around Jipsburg. But her meeting with Ms. Ruell doesn’t seem like a casual chat. Molly even gave Ms. Ruell a gift, though we’re not sure what is it yet.
“I’ve got a bad feeling about it. I suspect she might have given Ms. Ruell… some negative items.”
Joe’s mind immediately pictured the emerald ring Vera had been wearing
But the moment he tried to focus on it, a sharp pain pierced through his head.
Joe rubbed his temples, trying to ease the pain. “Keep following up,” he said with a deep frown.
“Understood.”
After hanging up with Paul, Joe took a few sips of water, waiting for the throbbing headache to subside. The moment it felt slightly better, he immediately called Alexander.
“I knew you’d be calling me. Skye must have mentioned the divorce, didn’t she?” Alexander said with a sigh before Joe could even get a word in.
Alexander knew Skylar well enough. She would try to shoulder this burden alone. And realistically, it
seemed like she had no choice.
To the outside world, people like Alexander and his peers seemed powerful–wielding significant influence in Jipsburg. Their words carried weight in many circles, and they were used to having a certain sway over situations. But when it came to Skylar’s situation, all that power was utterly useless.
Joe’s expression darkened. “She already told you?”
“I heard about the divorce a few days ago. Joe, I can see you care about Skye. You don’t want this divorce, do you? You’re also curious about why she’s insisting on it, aren’t you?”
There was a weary resignation in Alexander’s voice.
“Do you know the real reason she’s so determined to divorce me, Mr. Gardner Senior?” Joe asked.
Joe suddenly realized that Skylar’s insistence on divorcing him wasn’t simply because of Aiken, nor was it just her dissatisfaction with their marriage. There had to be something else.
Alexander sighed deeply. “If she hasn’t told you, it means she doesn’t want you to know. Honestly… maybe it’s better that you don’t.”
Sometimes, knowing the truth brought more pain than peace. Viola’s words came back to him–that the two of them weren’t destined to be together. They should never have gotten married in the first place.
At the thought of this, Alexander continued, “Skye mentioned her resignation to me, and I agreed. If she decides to come back in the future, I’ll personally invite her back. As for your grandmother, don’t tell her anything yet.
“The last thing she wants to see is trouble between you and Skye. I’ll let her know I’ve assigned Skye an important task, and she’ll need to leave Jipsburg for a while.”
Joe understood immately. Skylar definitely had a secret, and Alexander wasn’t going to reveal it. He didn’t press further.
Joe’s fingers lightly tapped the desk after placing his phone aside. Suddenly realizing something, he called Paul. “Call me tomorrow morning at nine sharp.” NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
The command left Paul a little confused. “Call you? Is there something you need me to remind you about at nine tomorrow, Mr. Martin?”
“Yes, just say it’s urgent,” Joe replied calmly.
“Huh? Alright,” Paul responded.
After leaving the restaurant, Skylar went straight back to Galaxy Villa.
She had dinner and began packing her things. Since the people from Pearlhall Residence often came over, she couldn’t take everything. She needed to leave some things behind to avoid raising suspicion about her relationship with Joe.
Around 10:00 pm, just as she finished packing, she got a call from Natalie.
“Skye, I’ll be back in Jipsburg next week. Mr. Powell’s filming would end in a couple of days. After the wrap party, we’ll return.” Natalie’s voice was filled with excitement.
Skylar smiled and said, “I’ll give you a proper welcome when you return.”
It was perfect timing. She was planning to meet Natalie before leaving Jipsburg.
Over the next couple of days, Skylar would figure out how to tell Janine and the others the news. For now, she wanted to keep the divorce a secret to avoid any unnecessary concern.
Alexander had introduced her to a job that would take her away from Jipsburg for about six months. It was in Murida. This was her true opportunity to leave Jipsburg behind.
“Hey, why do you sound a little off? Did Joe give you a hard time after you got back?” Natalie’s sharp intuition immediately sensed something unusual.
Skylar smiled, masking the truth. “Do I look like someone easy to bully? Ever since I returned from
Fachington, I’ve had a bit of a cold. My throat’s still sore, and I’m taking medicine for it.”
“Oh, it’s just a cold. There’s been a lot of that going around lately. Take care of yourself. If it gets worse, go see a doctor,” Natalie said, relieved it wasn’t Joe causing trouble.
Skylar reassured her. “It’s nearly gone, don’t worry. I’ll be all set to welcome you back.”
“Great! See you when I get back.”
After Natalie hung up, she was about to put her phone away and get back to work. But then, Kate called.
