With Skylar and Joe added to the mix, the heavy atmosphere made Skylar take a deep breath. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

Just then, Joe’s phone suddenly rang. He kept his eyes fixed on Skylar as he answered the call.

“Is there something urgent?” Joe asked, his voice as cold as ice. Skylar looked at Joe, noticing his sudden change in expression, which filled her with a sense of unease.

Then she heard him say, “I’ll head over right now.”

After hanging up, he turned to her and added, “There’s an urgent matter at the company that I need to take care of. We’ll have to reschedule.”

Without waiting for her response, he turned to leave.

Skylar noticed they were almost at the front of the line and hurriedly said to Joe, “We’re almost up. The divorce process doesn’t take long. It should only take a few minutes.”

Joe’s gaze was icy as he looked back at her. He glanced at his watch and said, “Not even ten minutes- five minutes is too long for me. Let’s do this another day,” he replied.

With that, he didn’t give Skylar a chance to stop him. He strode away, quickly exiting the courthouse.

Skylar was caught off guard. They were already at the courthouse, and now Joe had to leave unexpectedly.

Just as she was about to walk away, someone behind her said, “I don’t think your husband wants to divorce you. He clearly still cares when he looks at you. Maybe he’s just looking for an excuse to leave. You two probably won’t end up splitting.”

Whether someone liked another person could often be seen clearly in their eyes. Skylar paused for a moment, then forced a smile and said nothing. She walked out of the courthouse.

Back in the car, she tossed her bag containing the documents into the passenger seat, feeling lost and

confused.

More than a week had passed, and less than a week was left. “I’ll wait until tonight to set a time with him.”

However, when she tried to reach Joe that evening, his phone was off, and he hadn’t replied to her WhatsApp messages. Even Paul had this phone turned off. She wondered if they were both on a business trip together.

Skylar stared at her phone, feeling a bit lost. Just then, she received a call from Alexander.

“Skye, everything has been arranged with the team in Murida. You can head over whenever you’re ready. They promised to give you plenty of room to showcase your talents,” he said.

“Thank you, Mr. Gardner Senior,” she replied.

Only Alexander knew about her situation. She had expected to confront everything by herself, yet he was actively assisting her in organizing her career.

“Have you finalized the divorce with Joe yet?” he asked.

After a brief pause, Skylar answered, “He had an urgent matter today, so we haven’t finalized it yet.”

“Oh, what a coincidence! I wonder if your Grandma Viola misjudged the situation this time. You and Joe seem very compatible and share a strong connection.

“Since you two got together, I’ve noticed a significant change in him. And as for Gloria, she hasn’t been well these past few years, but she’s been doing much better lately.”

The more he spoke, the more Alexander felt something was off. Yet, given the circumstances with Viola, he couldn’t question her judgment.

Still, he couldn’t bear to see Skylar and Joe apart. They had both faced their share of struggles.

When Skylar heard the phrase “misjudges“, something flickered in her mind.

“Oh, I’m getting old and just rambling on. Just take care of yourself and try not to overthink things. There’s still time. You don’t need to rush the divorce with Joe.

Alexander regretted expressing his thoughts out loud.

The more he said, the more Skylar would feel hurt.

After their call ended, Skylar immediately went to find the two letters from Viola.
