Chapter 1053

The lights were on in the Galaxy Villa.

Joe was home, yet he hadn’t answered her call. Skylar wondered if he was busy just now. C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

With a mix of curiosity and concern, Skylar stepped inside. As she entered, she noticed Joe sitting on the couch not far away.

He was so engrossed in whatever he was doing that even the sound of her opening the door didn’t catch his attention. Not wanting to disturb him if he was working, she quietly slipped off her shoes before walking over.

But instead of working, Joe was staring intently at a ring resting in the palm of his hand. He was completely lost in thought.

Skylar couldn’t help but feel a surge of curiosity. Intrigued, she focused her gaze on the ring.

It was an emerald ring, giving off an ancient charm. Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she took a step closer.

“Where did you get this ring? Who gave it to you?” she asked.

She remembered this was the same ring she had seen in her online store. However, it seemed Joe didn’t hear her question. His gaze remained fixed on the ring, completely absorbed.

Skylar’s heart skipped a beat. There was no time to dwell on it. With mounting concern, she reached out and gently took hold of Joe’s other hand.

His palm was still warm, but hers felt cold.

“Joe, can you hear me? You need to stop looking at that ring. There’s something wrong with it.”

Skylar couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong with the ring, but Joe’s unusual demeanor made her certain it wasn’t good.

And now, she was truly worried about Joe.

Unfortunately, Joe didn’t hear her words. He remained fixated on the ring in his hand.

“Joe.”

Skylar quickly rummaged through her bag when it became clear that her calls wouldn’t wake him.

Inside, she found some talisman and hastily drew a symbol, folding it neatly before slipping it into Joe’s suit pocket.

She continued to call his name, “Joe, can you hear me? You need to stop looking at that ring. You’re not weak–willed; don’t let the ring manipulate you.”

Her voice was soft, yet it carried an unmistakable urgency that was hard to conceal.

She had never dealt with a situation like this before and had never expected to see that suspicious ring in Joe’s possession.

The situation caught her completely off guard.

Perhaps the talisman was starting to take effect. Or maybe it was her persistent calls that finally reached. Joe. With a stiff neck, Joe slowly lifted his head and looked toward Skylar.

At that moment, Skylar noticed the bloodshot tint in Joe’s eyes. He had been struggling to stay awake all this time.

She understood the effects of negative items well. Only those with immense willpower could resist their influence. Any sign of weakness, even the smallest hint, could lead to being ensnared by such a negative

item.

Skylar couldn’t shake the feeling that Joe had been fighting hard against the ring’s influence.

Tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she looked at him and said, “Just give me the ring. You only need to hand it to me, and I’ll handle the rest.”

Without hesitation, Joe placed the ring into her palm. The moment it left his hand, the bloodshot tint in his eyes faded away as if the earlier haze of confusion had been nothing but a dream.

As Skylar accepted the ring, she suddenly felt a strong wave of dizziness wash over her. Thankfully, Joe caught her just in time.

“Who gave you this ring?” Skylar asked, closing her eyes to steady herself against the lingering wave of dizziness.

When she opened them again to look at Joe, her complexion had paled slightly, but she remained focused and determined.
