Sean sat in the bed as he watched Millie leave the room. A grin played on his lips.
Millie Caldwell.
She was as feisty as before.
He glanced down at his stomach and wondered about Millie's stitching skills. He'd be mad if she gave him an ugly stitching.
A WhatsApp message notification chimed on his phone. Jake had messaged a WhatsApp group chat titled "The Studs".
Jake: "Sean Stringer, where did you fucking go? I waited for you for an hour at the airport!"
Sean: "Something came up. I've left the airport. You don't need to wait for me."
Jake texted him a string of question marks followed by some cursing. "Fuck you!"
Sean: "It's my fault. I'll buy you a meal."
Jake: "Thankfully it wasn't Win at the airport today. He'll kill you for standing him up for an hour."
Soon, a user profile popped up in the chat. Winston wrote: "I nearly went to pick you up."
Winston had planned to pick up Sean from the airport after dealing with the goods at the harbor, but he ran into Millie on his way.
Jake thought of it too. "Right. I thought you'd agreed to go with me.
Where did you go?"
The two fell silent. Only Jake remained active in the group. He finally relented. "Fine. Turns out I'm the doormat."
Julia had to drag Millie up from bed in the morning. She nagged at her daughter, "Gosh, it's
almost noon. Why are you still in bed? Where did you go last night? You weren't home until 6:00 am."
Millie woke up groggily. She would have fallen back into bed had Julia not lifted her by the arm. Squinting at Julia, she asked, "What's the time now?"
"It's noon!" Julia glared at her. "Doors
at the cruise party open at 6:00 pm, and the event starts at 7:30 pm. Why are you still in bed? Look at the
Instagram posts of the socialite ne
who are attending! They have posted selfies. You're the only one Who's still in bed."

This was Julia's first time coming across a young woman like Millie, who was uninterested in the glitz and glamor of high society. Pouting, Millie yawned. "Got it, Mom."
She would get up right away and get ready for the cruise party.
"I'll bring you to a jewelry exhibition after the cruise party!" Julia said to Millie while helping her to smooth out her outfit.
Millie looked at Julia quietly. "When would that be?"
"We haven't settled on a date. It could be soon or a bit later. The person in charge of the exhibition has just returned for the handover."
"Oh." Millie pursed her lips. "We'll see. I'm not that interested in it anyway."
"No. You must go!" Julia stared at her sternly. "You quit your job at the hospital, refused to take over the company, and now, you're saying you have no interest in earning design. Do you plan to waste away your life?
"By the way, I've talked to your dad about you going abroad. No. one in the family agrees with that idea. So, you should drop the idea of running away
It was rare to see Julia addressing Millie in such a stern manner.
Sitting by the bed, Millie silently watched as Julia busied herself with the preparations. She replied to Julia, “Okay."
Julia stole a glance at her. Did that mean Millie had given up on going abroad?
Millie followed up by saying, "Well, it's not like you could stop me if I really wanted to go abroad."
Julia looked angry. "Just listen to us. Have fun tonight and be bold. Date a new man!"
She patted Millie on the shoulder and dispensed advice with much concern. "Mills, you're awesome. You can date any man you want. It's time to let go of the past and free yourself. Got it?"
