The Promise
The Promise
AFTER working at the café, Calyx and Cindy left together, making Zoe alone. She decided to grab some snacks at the nearby convenience store. She was craving potato chips. Although her OB reminded her not to eat too much junk food or carbonated drinks. She pushed the door as she enters the store and get the snacks she needs and after that, she paid for them on the counter. She walked slowly as she takes the way toward their apartment. She looked up at the sky and glimpse how the stars winked at her. She smiled while she sways the plastic of the things she bought and then focus her gaze on the road after a few moments. She took a deep breath to calm her thoughts. Until now, she didn’t own a phone. She wanted to buy but her pregnancy came. She decided to put her savings into her baby. Zoe halted when she saw a black range rover that stopped beside her. Then suddenly she felt a tint of fear in her heart. She was about to walk again when the car’s door opened and she gasped in surprise when she saw who it was. “H-Helios…” Helios climbed down from the driver’s seat and walked towards her. He reached for her hand and said, “let’s go before someone will see us,” he said. Zoe wanted to savor the tune of his voice but she was aware of what he meant. She then reached for his hand and Helios guided her toward the passenger seat. When Helios gets back into the driver’s seat, he started the engine and maneuvered the steering wheel and Zoe wasn’t aware of where will he take her. For a few moments, an awkward silence filled in but it was Helios who broke it first. “How are you?” Zoe bit her lower lip as her eyes were still fixed on the road. “I’m fine.” “How about the baby?” he asked. Zoe took the moment to glance at Helios. “I’m just five weeks pregnant and my OB can’t tell the gender yet,” she said. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Helios smiled… feeling at ease. “I’m sorry…” he said, making Zoe’s forehead crease. She let out a soft chuckle as she turned her gaze back in front. “You don’t have to say that.” “I know I caused you too much trouble—” “No, you don’t,” she replied as she looked at him again. Helios sighed. “Let me speak. I know you’re not expecting this—it’s my fault. I should’ve not—” “Please, Helios. I don’t regret anything. Besides, why feel sorry? We both wanted it. What has been done was done. You can’t undo it. Can’t we stop mentioning what had happened?” Zoe couldn’t help but meddle with Helios’s words. “If only I am not a part of that dangerous organization… I could always be there for you,” he said. Zoe shook her head. “It’s not your fault. It’s fate. Grant and I talked about those things already. I understand. But you don’t have to insist if it will only cause you trouble, Helios. Chloe is so sweet and I’m a woman. I know what it feels like being rejected or being left alone.” Helios pulled his car onto the wide street. He faces Zoe. “I am doing all of this because of you. If Grant didn’t stop me, I should have kidnapped you,” he said, frankly. Zoe’s eyes widened because of surprise. “Are you for real? Why would you think of that?” “Because that’s how I am crazy in love with you, Zoe,” he said, wearing his deep yet soft voice. Helios grabbed her left hand and grasped it. He pressed her hand tightly. “I can’t wait for the time that we will be together, Zoe. I will not ask or force you again for marriage. But let me care for you for a lifetime. I am very much willing to wait until you’re ready, Zoe.” At this moment, Zoe couldn’t stop her emotions. Her heart thumped fast because of happiness. She doesn’t know but she’s happy. Helios’s presence makes her happy. She felt complete. ‘Is this the thing that Cindy had mentioned?’ She thought. “Helios…” she whispered. Tears clouded her eyes and her vision became blurry. Helios reached for her cheeks and began to wipe Zoe’s tears away as he consoles her. “Baby… I’m here,” he mumbled as he pulled Zoe closer to him. He held her so gently as if she was a fragile thing that is meant to be broken if not handled with
care. “I love you, Zoe…” he whispered as he put her inside his embrace. Zoe sobbed even louder while hearing those words from Helios. “I love you too, Helios,” she replied. Helios caresses her back and suddenly lets go of the hug. He cupped her face and stared into her eyes. And after a few seconds, he pressed his lips into hers. Zoe could feel the warmth of Helios’s lips. Helios started to nibble her lower lip, making Zoe slip out a soft moan. They both miss the warmth of each other’s kisses and touches. Helios’s hand started to caress her shoulder and went to her back. While his other hand still held her face and even caressed her cheek. Their kisses deepen and later on, they became more intimate and aggressive. Helios bit Zoe’s lower lip, making the latter gasp. He then took the chance to slide his tongue inside her mouth and savor it. Their hunger for each other can be clearly seen. After a few moments of kissing and touching, Helios stopped and stared at Zoe’s eyes again. “I’m getting engaged tomorrow.” Something struck Zoe’s heart but she remained silent. “Also, I will get the title. I want you to wait for me, Zoe. Give me two days and I promised, I will get back to you. I will hide you until my fight is over. Let me care and fight the battle for us. Just promise me that you will trust me.” Hearing this, Zoe knew that Helios is sincere. She then nodded and said, “I will, Helios. I will wait for you.”
