Chapter 86 Self-awareness Between Adults
“I still have something to do here, so I will go.”
After that, Amanda Jewell called her assistant, Anne, and said, “Send Mr. Byran off for me.”
Anne was a newcomer and didn’t know what was going on. She smiled politely at Iverson and said, “Mr. Byran, the door is over there. Please.”
Iverson’s temples throbbed violently.
When Jamie Tarry saw this, he hurriedly called out to Amanda. “Miss Jewell, what’s the matter with you? Mr. Byran hasn’t had time to drink water in the past three days. Apart from talking about business, he’s been on the plane for the last two days. The business over there hasn’t been finished yet. He rushed back as soon as he heard the news. He’s afraid that someone will make trouble for your company on its opening day.”
Amanda acted as if she hadn’t heard anything and walked into the office without looking back.
Only Anne was left standing in this awkward atmosphere, at a loss as to what to do.
Should she see him out? Or?
“I’ll tell Miss Jewell.”
“No need.”
Iverson’s temper flared up as well. “Come on, let’s go back.”
There was a limit to one’s patience.
“Mr. Byran.”
Jamie hurriedly caught up to Iverson. “Mr. Byron, is there a misunderstanding? What could have happened? Miss Jewell doesn’t look too happy. Should we ask her?”
Iverson’s eyes darkened.
Jamie suddenly shut his mouth and pressed the elevator button silently.
With a sound, the elevator arrived, and the door slowly opened.
Jamie reminded cautiously, “Mr. Byran, the elevator is here.”
Iverson, on the other hand, stood at the door without moving. His tall and straight figure was like a finely sculpted statue. No one knew what he was thinking, but he suddenly clenched his fists and strode back.
Amanda was watering the flowers on the balcony absent-mindedly.
She didn’t even notice that the water in the potted plants had spilled out. It wasn’t until the water droplets fell on her feet that she felt a chill on the back of her feet. She came to her senses and hurriedly wiped it with tissue paper.
With a click, the door was opened, and hurried but steady footsteps sounded.
Amanda raised her head subconsciously, but her hand was immediately caught.
“You have to give me an explanation.”
A deep, cold voice came from above her head. The man’s gaze was like a torch as he stared at Amanda, making her shiver.
“What explanation?”
“Your attitude.”
“What’s that attitude? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Amanda had come to her senses. She couldn’t forget how she felt when she received the box of birth control pills that day.
It was a kind of humiliation that was equal to the sarcasm that the Sean Family had mocked and ridiculed her for all these years.
Iverson suppressed his impatience and asked, “Victoria Carey is making trouble for you again?”
“No.”
“What did Lydia Ginos say to you?”
“No.”
“Was it my grandma?”
“No.”
Iverson asked every question that came to his mind, but Amanda didn’t respond.
Iverson finally lost all his patience. He clenched Amanda’s wrist tightly, as if he wanted to crush her arm. He said coldly, “I don’t like guessing a woman’s thoughts. What are you dissatisfied with?”
“No!”
“You’re not allowed to say no again!”
Amanda finally raised her head, and her beautiful eyes were calm and indifferent. “Mr. Byran, I’m very grateful for all the help you’ve given me since I got divorced, but I’m formally informing you now that we’re not suitable for each other.”
“You want to break up?”
“It was just a test. If we don’t get along, let’s break up. It’s good for everyone.”

“I have no feelings for you.”
Her words poured down like a basin of cold water, denying all the intimacy in the past few months.
A woman’s indifference and alienation could always hurt a man’s self-esteem, especially one as proud and aloof as Iverson Byran.
The office was extremely quiet.
Only the sound of Iverson’s heavy breathing could be heard, as if he was suppressing his anger. He was close to the edge of the volcano, and the sense of danger was terrifying.
Amanda looked at the man in front of her quietly, untouched.
Since she was a child, she had been firmer than others in her mind. She could be persuaded by reason, but not by force.
With a loud bang, Iverson slammed the door shut and left.
When Joleen heard the commotion, Amanda was sitting on the sofa with a calm face, as if nothing had happened.
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing,” Amanda said as she poured himself a cup of tea. “Would you like some tea?”
Joleen turned to look in the direction that Iverson had left in, confused. “Did you have a fight?”
Amanda didn’t reply but lowered her head to drink tea.
There was a kind of self-awareness between adults that didn’t need to be pointed out, especially when it came to relationships. The one who invested first would lose, and if someone was injured and didn’t know how to stop the damage in time, then he or she would only be utterly defeated, unable to turn the situation around.
Amanda admitted that Iverson was an excellent man. If she could go back to his twenties, she would be willing to give it a try, even if she knew that she couldn’t win such a man’s heart.
But she’s soon to be 30, and compared to love, she’s more willing to invest in her career. After all, the only thing that can give a reward for hard work is a career.
The business car drove out of the parking lot of Sisson Tower’s office building.
The gloomy face of the man in the backseat was reflected in the rearview mirror inside the car. Even the air pressure in the car was extremely low. It was almost suffocating.
Jamie breathed carefully, for fear that he would accidentally ignite his boss’ emotions.
It was so rare to see. He had followed Iverson for so many years, but I’ve never seen him so emotional and out of control.”
“Should we go home or…”
“The company.”
These two cold words came out of his mouth and Jamie and the driver exchanged glances. No one dared say anything more.
On the other side, Halley left after being humiliated for a while, and his face was gloomy the entire time.
Olinka, who was at the side, felt indignant. “Amanda is such so lucky. How could a divorced woman hook up with a big shot like Amanda Jewell? How could we mess with her in the future?”
“Are you jealous that she can be with Iverson Byran?”
A cold voice sounded from the side. Olinka said apologetically, “That’s not what I meant. I mean, how could Iverson possibly marry someone like her?”
“Nothing is impossible. She’s beautiful and capable. Anyone would be willing to marry her.”
“Halley, do you regret divorcing her? Am I not as good as her?”
Halley didn’t speak.
The smile on Olinka’s face gradually froze.
Halley looked out of the window and his mind was a mess. Although he was angry at Amanda for humiliating him, he could not deny that after the divorce, he began to think about her.
Compared to Olinka, who came from a humble family, Amanda’s coldness was even more alluring. She had been his dream for the past few nights.
Looking at Halley’s absent-minded expression, Olinka clenched her fists and tried her best to suppress her jealousy.
“Halley, let’s think about how to deal with the board of directors and your Uncle. Amanda is indeed powerful. She has lost a lot of trouble for you this time.”
Halley’s face turned pale all of a sudden, and he glanced impatiently at Olinka. “What else can you do except make sarcastic remarks?”
If he had known there would be so much trouble, he wouldn’t have divorced her back then.
