Chapter 408 Unable to Escape From Him
Chapter 408 Unable to Escape From Him
Almost at the same time, all the people turned their eyes to the commotion right outside the station.
"Hiram, over there! Isn't that Rachel?" Carl shouted out immediately and pointed to her.
Everyone looked to the direction he was pointing. Hiram also fixed his eyes on the three big fellows,
who were apparently from the countryside, and the woman in the middle, who was holding a little girl in
her arms.
Although she was wearing plain and simple clothes, he could recognize her in one glance.
It was indeed her. His wife, Rachel Ruan.
On the quiet streets of L City at midnight, all was dead quiet. Besides, L City wasn't a very developed
city, so at this time, there were almost no passers-by, save for one or two cars driving by from time to
time.
Holding Nadia in her arms, Rachel found that there was no place for her to retreat to. She looked
around nervously to find someone who could help her. When she saw the cars that just pulled over on
the roadside, she began shouting as loudly as she could.
There was still a distance between her and the people in the cars, and she couldn't see who they were
under the dim street lamp. "Help! Somebody help! Please!" she yelled desperately.
"Shut up! You stupid woman! What are you yelling for? That child you are holding is my daughter. And
it's the right thing for a father to come and take his own daughter home with him! Give her to us now!
Even if you rip your throat yelling, and even if you call the entire police force here, you can't deny me
my daughter!" the man in the front shouted.
"Come on, sweetheart! Come to Daddy, and I'll take you home to your mommy!" The man called out to
the little girl.
The little girl had her arms around Rachel's neck, and she held on even more tightly hearing her
father's voice. Trembling and teary eyed, she didn't even dare look at him.
From the corner of her eyes, Rachel saw several people approaching from the opposite direction.
Rachel felt both happy and relieved. They had a chance. People wouldn't refuse to help other people in
real trouble, and she thanked God that there were still a lot of good people in this world.
Nobody knew from where she got the courage, but suddenly she took her bag from her shoulder and
threw it towards the man, who stood nearest her.
As the man moved aside to avoid it, she seized the chance to slip away through the gap, dashing
towards the people with gritted teeth.
"Help!
Please help me!
Please……"
She shouted at the top of her lungs, running as fast as she could. But the next second, she stopped
and felt herself rooted on the spot, as if she was struck by a lightning. She recognized the man walking
in her direction.
Her heart was pounding wildly. It was the best person whom she had known all her life, and he had
come to save the day.
It was her husband, Hiram.
But, she couldn't believe her eyes.
All of a sudden, she lost all her strength to move. She stared at him without batting an eyelash, totally
unable to move, still holding the little girl in her arms.
The three men had gotten out of the car and started walking towards Rachel. When they caught up her,
they tried to grab her but were stopped by Carl, Chad and Marlon, who got to her in time, coming from
the side.
Totally forgetting what was going on around her, Rachel had her eyes fixed on the man in front of her.
Inches from her, there was a lot of shouting, pushing and shoving. Punches and kicks were flying,
bodies falling to the ground. In the middle of all that, she could clearly hear her beating heart, which
was ready to leap from her body. Everything was a blur when she suddenly hear Hiram yelling.
"Come on! Let's go!" He grabbed her and pulled her to a safe spot, away from the ongoing fistfight.
"You naughty little thing! I wonder whether I should tie you down with a chain so you would be beside
me the rest of your life!"
Hiram snorted coldly as he looked at her without a blink.
Despite his burning anger, he noticed that she had lost quite a lot weight during the period that she was
gone.
Rachel looked away from him with her head bowed to the ground. She felt that all her strength had
drained away, trying hard not to collapse in a heap.
After all the troubles, she was unable to escape from him, no matter how hard she tried.
"Why are you trying to stop us? Please make some sense, man! You have to believe us, that little girl is
my daughter, and that woman holding her took her away from us! Leave us be! Or, I'll call the police!"
Nadia's father yelled at them.
Outnumbered by Carl, Chad and Marlon with Hiram standing close by, he was fully aware that they
might not be able to take his daughter away easily. Thus, he tried to talk some sense into them and
hoped that they could be convinced and just go away.
Rachel heard everything the father said and came to her senses. She turned around and looked at the
father, shouting back,"You slime ball! All you want is money, not your daughter. Tell me how much the
buyer offered for your child? I'll give you twice. Just leave her alone!"
The three men looked at each other and nodded. Since they had decided to sell the girl, it would make
no sense to give up a higher offer. After all, the highest bidder always wins.
"Really? Then it's done!" They wasted no time closing the deal. But you need to pay now. We will be
out of your hair the moment we get the money!" The father said in a straightforward tone, no different
from when he sold a used mobile phone. There was no father-daughter affection in this relationship.
Just purely business.
Rachel could feel Hiram's burning gaze from behind.
He stepped forward and said to Chad,"Pay him half of the price. Then take them with you to complete
the adoption procedures. After that, pay him the other half."
Hiram was well-known for his clear thinking. Even at this moment, he could make sure everything was
in good order and well arranged. He wouldn't leave anything to chance that would cause trouble in the
future.
As long as the father admitted that he couldn't afford to raise her daughter, he could take her over and
find a suitable family to adopt her later.
Carl picked up the bag Rachel threw at them from the ground, and walked to her. He said, a bit excited
to finally see her again,"Here is your bag, Rachel!"
Rachel smiled at him. Holding Nadia with one hand, she managed to take her bad with another hand,
but Hiram was faster than her. He grabbed her bag with one hand and her hand with another, heading
to the car.
After getting her inside, he also went in and sat beside her and pulled the door shut before locking it.
Rachel put Nadia down beside her, and rubbed her wrists. She felt a throbbing pain from the cuts in
them. Both wrists felt broken.
Rachel dared not look at the man beside her, because she was afraid that she would go up in flames
with the fury in his eyes.
"Oh, I almost forgot! I left my luggage on the platform. Can I have a couple of minutes? I want to go
and fetch it." she asked. She only remembered her luggage now that the worst part seemed to be over.
She left it on the platform when Shirley gave Nadia to her. She thought at that time, that it was just
some clothes. Compared to the kid, those were easy to replace.
Since the kid was safe now, she thought she'd better take a look whether it was still there on the
platform.
Hearing her words, Hiram raised his brows and glanced at her coldly,"So, you think you can just get out
of here, and then go off running away from me again. Later, I'll have to follow your ass to different cities
around the country to find you. Never mind the life back home that we have - our children, our jobs... Is
this your plan?" This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
"Listen, I ……" Rachel tried to explain, but Hiram ignored her.
"Carl, please go to the platform and see if there is any suitcase left there. If so, take it and bring it back
with you!" He then turned to Rachel coldly. "Problem solved! Anything else?"
"I won't run away, Hiram! But we need to talk!" Rachel blurted out.
"Talk? Right, we do need to talk! But why didn't you talk to me about it back at home? Why didn't you
talk to me when I found you in North Sea City? Tell me why?" Hiram shouted, not holding back on his
anger.
"I ……" Rachel murmured. She tried but she couldn't answer his questions.
"You've never given me the chance to talk. My phone was on twenty-four hours a day, but why didn't
call me? Did you forget my number? Tell me!" he roared inside the car.
He yelled so loudly that Nadia was frightened and began crying.
The two-year-old girl held on to Rachel sobbing. She was too scared to cry out loudly, stealing glances
at Hiram once in a while.
"Auntie, where is my mommy? I want to see her now." she murmured.
Just then, Rachel realized that she had forgotten about Shirley. Where did she go?
"Hiram, we'll talk over this later. Now, we have to find her mother. Would you help me?" she asked
softly as she held the little girl, rubbing her back as she clung to Rachel.
Hiram furrowed his brows and asked,"She has a mother? I thought his father was selling her because
her mother died and no one could look after her."
If both her parents were still alive, it would be hard for him to get custody. This was common sense.
"Yes, her mother is Shirley. Regardless of what happened before, please try to find her since we're
here now."
She said in a soft voice, holding his arm.
Hiram hesitated for a moment and looked at the little girl, wondering how this could be Shirley's
daughter.
Hesitantly, he took out his phone and called Carl, asking him to look around and see if Shirley was still
inside the station.
After that, he looked at the little troublemaker with a frown, trying hard not to show his anger, before he
got out of the back of the car and sat in the driver's seat.
After he started the car and drove off, Rachel knew that what she was going to say would piss him off,
but she said reluctantly to him,"Hiram, I don't want to go back home yet."
Hiram slammed his foot on the brakes and the car stopped abruptly, throwing Rachel and the child
forward. Turning to her, Hiram asked in his coldest voice,"What did you say just now?"
