Chapter 129
Chapter 129
Although Felicity expected such an outcome, she was still very agitated. She held onto Veronique's arm and looked at her pleadingly.
“Vero, I beg of you. Please tell me the whereabouts of Anonymous.”
Veronique pursed her lips. Both the Chivers and the Revelle families were close friends. She certainly did not wish to see Glen succumb to his illness.
She felt sorry for them. Then again, who would feel sorry for Bay's sufferings? RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
“Mrs. Chivers, I'm very sorry. The last time I had any contact with Anonymous was three years ago when she announced that she would be retiring from the medical field and never hold a scalpel again. After that, I never met her again, nor do I know her whereabouts.”
Felicity refused to believe her and grabbed her wrist. “Ms. Revelle, the gods are watching, so you'd better not lie. Otherwise, you will be punished. Back then, you were able to invite her to Eskaria to perform a craniotomy on the king. That proves that the two of you are very close friends. How can you lose contact all of a sudden? Don't try to patronize me.”
When Veronique heard what she said, her face darkened. “I really have no idea where Anonymous is. There is still some time for Old Mr. Chivers. Please find someone else to cure him.”
With that, she picked up her handbag and prepared to leave.
Artemis, who had been silent all the while, spoke up all of a sudden. “Earlier on, Rhonda phoned and told me that she had found a renowned neurosurgeon who hails from Uramuzor. His name is Cadence
White, and he is the best student from Uramuzor. I'm prepared to bring him to Hallsbay. If it isn't convenient for Ms. Revelle to disclose any information regarding Anonymous, I will have no choice but to engage Cadence.”
When Veronique heard Cadence's name, she stared at Artemis in disbelief. With a quavering voice, she said, “Cadence's style has always been on the extreme side. How can you risk the life of Old Mr. Chivers?”
Artemis stared at her with mockery and ridicule. “Then, what should I do? Ms. Revelle, you can't operate on my granddad and refuse to reveal the whereabouts of Anonymous. Do you expect me to watch my granddad die?”
That stumped Veronique.
That's right. I have no right to stop the Luther family from engaging members of the Uramuzor to operate on Glen.
“My apologies. I crossed the line.”
Artemis dismissed her with a wave of his hand. “Thank you for your help for the last few days, Ms. Revelle. Please go back and take a good rest. If you are in need of anything in the future, feel free to give me a call. I will do everything I can if it's within my means.”
Veronique was about to open her mouth when she changed her mind.
Since I can't reveal the whereabouts of Anonymous, what's the point of saying anything else?
“Sure. I'll make a move then.”
With that, she strode toward the door.
“Vero, please don't go,” begged Felicity as she reached out to Veronique. Seeing that she was leaving, Felicity wanted to chase after her.
When Artemis saw his mother's reaction, he grabbed her arm and whispered, “If you trust me, let me handle this matter. I will make sure she will give me the location of Anonymous.”
Felicity was filled with frustration. She turned to look at him and asked, “Who is this person from Uramuzor that she was talking about just now? Can he really operate on your granddad?”
Artemis narrowed his eyes and pondered on it before responding, “His name is Cadence, and he is indeed capable. I heard he had performed craniotomy surgery for several people, and all of them survived. But, it's a high-risk operation because his style differs from others. That's why people claim that he is an extremist.”
“Is it true that Ronni is the one who recommended him?” asked Felicity.
“Yes, it's true. Two days ago, she went abroad and visited Cadence personally. She has asked him to make a trip to Hallsbay.”
Felicity's expression softened when she heard that. “That's very kind of Ronni. Both Ronniand Bailey have borne children for both you and your brother. Yet, Ronni is the one who makes an effort. As for
Bailey? She's more interested in vying for power at Luther Group. It's a vast difference between the two of them. Once Ronni returns, tell her to move back to the Luther residence.”
Artemis frowned and said, “Are you actually willing to let Cadence operate on Granddad?”
“What else can we do? We can't depend on Anonymous. By the looks of it, she isn't fit to be a doctor. She's just fishing for fame with no real talent. I don't believe the sick will die without her.”
Artemis kept quiet all the while. Now that Felicity was feeling angry after being rejected by Veronique, one wrong word from him might bring about an argument.
Felicity pried his hand off her and strode toward the door. “I'm going to give Ronni a call and tell her to bring Cadence back to Hallsbay as soon as possible. Don't ever mention this Anonymous in front of me again. Such a disgusting person.”
Artemis was rendered speechless.
After Veronique left the Luther residence, she went directly to the café opposite Luther Group.
When she got there, Bailey was already waiting for her.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Bailey smiled and poured her a cup of coffee. “It's normal to be stuck in traffic jams now that it's the after-work peak hours. So, how did it go? Did the Luther family make things difficult for you?”
Veronique let out a sigh and said, “Your sister, Rhonda, has gone and asked Cadence from Uramuzor
to attend to Old Mr. Chivers. As you know, Cadence is a crazy man. If he operates on Old Mr. Chivers, I doubt the old man will make it.”
Cadence...
Bailey narrowed her eyes when she heard that name.
She had long heard about his reputation.
“Ha! This is interesting. Looks like Artemis must have found out about my grudge against Cadence. He thinks that by engaging Cadence, he will be able to lure me out so that I will compete against Cadence.”
Veronique stared at her in puzzlement. “You have grudges against Cadence?”
“It happened a long time ago. There's no point in mentioning it. But, I think Mr. Luther will be disappointed this time around. There is no way he is going to get Anonymous to show herself because Anonymous will never operate on anyone again.”
Veronique raised her hands and laughed. “Whatever. I consider this issue over. In two days' time, I intend to go back to Archulea. I don't feel at ease knowing that Zephyr is on his own in another country.”
After a moment of silence, Bailey asked tentatively, “Do you really have no intention to contact his biological father? Vero, I hacked into your computer and saw the latest report of Zephyr. His illness has already reached the intermediate stage. If you drag this on for a few more months, it will be too late for you to look for his father by then.”
Veronique leaned on the table and mumbled, “I want to look for him too. But that will take away the last ounce of my dignity. I'm afraid that he won't accept Zephyr and will look at my son with disdain. I-I don't have the courage to face everything. Once the truth is out, there will be serious repercussions.”
Bailey sighed and said, “I'm so sorry to upset you. I take back my words. You should decide for yourself.”
In the study of the Luther residence, Artemis was on the phone and standing by the window.
An hour ago, he had ordered Ken to follow Veronique.
“Mr. Luther, Ms. Revelle has gone to Luther Group to meet Ms. Bailey.”
Artemis smiled to himself.
I knew it!
