Chapter 171
Chapter 171
He really is acting up again, this b*stard.
“I'm tired, so I'll be sleeping now.”
“Go ahead. I'll accompany you,” Artemis responded.
As she was fatigued, it only took her a few seconds to fall asleep.
Staring at her delicate and tranquil face as she slept, the man felt warm and fuzzy inside, as though his heart was melting. I want this woman. I don't care if the whole world is against it. She's going to be my wife.
Edmund, who was about to enter the room, saw what had transpired in the room through a small window.
His grip on the door handle tightened as a strange expression appeared on his face. Both of us began from the same starting line for the battle for Bay's love. No, I had the advantage compared to him because I had known her for seven years. Not only that, Zayron and Sarah like me. If I still lose with all that advantage, then I think it's a sign that I'm incompetent.
The next morning, inside the living room of a private mansion in the eastern suburbs, Rhonda glared at the man enjoying coffee on the couch.
She roared, “Did you hear that Bailey successfully completed the operation? She actually did it!”
Cadence pointed at the stack of newspapers on the coffee table with his chin, smiling. “It's already all
over the headlines. Tens of media companies in Hallsbay reported the same thing all at the same time. Even a three-year-old knew about it. Why wouldn't I?”
“Then why are you still sipping coffee as if nothing's happened? Can you really let her off for stepping on you when she returned to the medical world in such an overwhelming manner?”
“Sit.” He pointed at the couch across from him. “The direr the situation is, the calmer we must be. Don't worry, I didn't forget what she did. I bet I hate her more than you do since she vanquished my hope of ever reaching the top of the medical world. Now that I know her whereabouts, do you think I'll let her off?”
Sitting across from him lividly, Rhonda questioned through gritted teeth, “What do you plan to do next?” This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
With a smile, he proposed, “Now that she's getting really famous, I bet a lot of medical organizations will spend a lot of money to hire her to develop medicine. If she does, I'll find a way to sabotage her medicine and turn her into a murderer.”
At his words, Rhonda's eyes glimmered with hope. “Oh yeah! She'll be developing drugs used to save lives. If they are sabotaged, those life-saving drugs will be death-inducing ones. I wasn't wrong about you after all.”
“There's plenty of time ahead of us, so just wait and see. There will come a day when Bailey's time in the spotlight will end, and she'll be thrown into the abyss.”
That made her feel relieved. Then she recalled her real reason for visiting him. “That little b*stard saw me when I was spraying the drug on his shirt,” she stated. “I don't think he noticed anything odd, but I'm
worried if they run tests on the shirt, I—”
Not giving her a chance to finish, Cadence waved and interrupted her, “Don't worry, the drug's only effective for twenty-four hours before it evaporates. By the time they realize what happened, it would be gone.”
“Really?” A huge sigh of relief escaped her mouth. After all, it was a serious matter. If people found out about it, she would be done for.
With a raised eyebrow, he questioned, “Do you think I'm stupid enough to expose myself before Bailey kicks the bucket? If I leave them such an obvious trail to track, I'd get knocked out of the ring by her on the first round.”
On the flip side, Zayron was typing on his computer on a desk inside the living room of the Chivers residence.
Ever since Dummy told him that Rhonda might be seeing someone outside and cheating on Artemis, he got pretty riled up. As part of his plan, he installed a satellite positioning system on her phone.
“What is she doing in the eastern suburbs?” he muttered before further locking in on her position.
In the end, he discovered she was inside a private mansion.
“What are you doing, Zayron?” Susan leaned in curiously.
“I'm catching an adulterer in the act.”
“Huh? What?” Her eyes widened as she stared at him adorably.
Letting out a cough, he changed the topic. “Les Cinq Series, the one you endorsed, was determined to be a case of plagiarism. Now that your reputation is damaged, the Oscars are going to remove you as a nominee for the Best Child Actor Award. Don't you think you should find a way to restore your image as a refined and elegant princess? What are you staring at me for?”
With a pout, she replied, “How am I going to solve the issue? I'm not a rich person. I may be able to control the market and even sway Horington's decision, but I'm still too young, even if I'm as pretty as an angel. No one's going to intervene for my sake.”
Zayron was speechless. Jeez, what is she saying?
“How about we sell our dear mom to Artemis and let him protect my reputation?”
“You...”
Before the boy could speak further, Artemis' voice was heard coming from the outside. “You don't need to sell your mother to me, because the Best Child Actor Award undoubtedly belongs to you this year.”
The siblings jumped up from the couch as their line of sight darted around.
Susan lowered her voice. “Why do I feel like that tyrant is in a good mood right now? Did he bang Bailey last night?”
“Shut up.” Zayron glared at her, successfully stopping her from speaking further.
The boy then turned toward Artemis and spoke rigidly. “There's no need for you to worry about my sister, Mr. Luther. If she doesn't get the Best Child Actor Award from the Oscars, that's her problem.”
The adult man shoved one hand into his pocket and used the other one to caress his chin. Then he arrived in front of the boy and patted him. “Your sister is an actor contracted with a media company that's a subsidiary of Luther Group. If she gets the Best Child Actor Award, she'll help my company open up new market opportunities. This is strictly a business decision.”
Zayron frowned. “But the Les Cinq Series she endorsed was found to be a case of plagiarism. This has greatly damaged her international reputation. If she still manages to win the award under these circumstances, people will think she's using underhanded tactics to win.”
“Then let them think that way. Right now, everyone in the world knows Susan is the daughter of the Luther family. Who would dare to criticize me if I do use underhanded tactics to let her win?”
Susan tilted her head and stared at Artemis. This man is so handsome. He's oozing a masculine and domineering charm, especially when he's making decisions. No wonder Bay is starting to catch feelings for him. If he interacts with her like that a couple more times, I bet she won't be able to resist him, no matter how rational she is.
When she was about to speak, a housekeeper verbally delivered a report outside of the door. “Mr. Luther, Ms. Anonymous is asking you to head to the emergency room immediately. She said Mr. Maxton's condition is worsening.”
Artemis' face darkened before he relayed an order to the siblings. “I'll head to the emergency room now. Remember to eat your breakfast and try not to go out. Stay here, okay?”
“I'll come with you!”
“Me too!”
Meanwhile, Felicity and Bailey were arguing outside of the emergency room. “What kind of heartless woman are you? How dare you say my grandson will turn into a mentally challenged child!”
