Chapter 182
Chapter 182
In the living room, Zayron was leisurely leaning against the shoe rack. He wore a half-smile on his face as he stared at the middle-aged man standing by the doorway.
“Um, boy, can you let me through first? There are a lot of people in the corridor, and it would be weird if anyone sees us.”
Zayron scoffed.
Before the boy could say anything, a gloomy woman's voice sounded out behind him.
“My, it's you, Mr. Walker. What an honor to meet you. Why have you come to my humble abode instead of celebrating at home over your success in kicking me out of Luther Group?”
Right as Bailey said that, Victoria's mocking voice sounded. “Bay, you don't know what's going on, do you? Mr. Walker thinks that you're not embarrassed enough, so he has come to rub salt into the wound. I'd say you should get on your knees and bow before him so that he'll spare you the harsh words.”
Alistair Walker awkwardly chuckled before explaining, “Ms. Jefferson, Ms. Saunders, you've misunderstood me. I've come to apologize. We were foolish to have driven you out of Luther Group. I've come to sincerely invite you back to Luther Group today.”
“What?” Victoria widened her eyes and stared at him in deliberate shock. “Oh my god. I didn't hear him wrong, right? Did Mr. Walker just say he's here to apologize? Everyone in the corporate world knows that Mr. Walker's the largest shareholder in Luther Group besides Mr. Walker. He's usually so intimidating, and everyone in both the political and the corporate world would act extra respectfully
around you. Yet, you're here to apologize to a junior in the company?”
Alistair's face turned bright red. He was acting vastly different from what his big ego told him to do, so he was starting to feel ashamed.
All these years, he had always been well respected by the people in the political and corporate world. He had always been high and mighty.
However, he had been defeated by a young woman, and he had to toss aside his pride to beg her. It was indeed a shameful act. If anyone were to hear about this, the reputation he had taken years to build would be ruined overnight.
“Ms. Jefferson, I was short-sighted to not have seen how good you were. I've come to present my sincerest apologies.”
“Is that so?” Victoria walked past Bailey toward the door before giving him a smile that did not reach her eyes. “If I didn't remember this wrong, Jessica is your niece, Mr. Walker. I don't think you've driven Bay out of Luther Group because you were short-sighted. After all, my dear friend here was in the way of your niece's bright future. It's nothing strange for her to be kicked out of the company. If she doesn't leave, how are you going to get your niece to rise in the ranks?”
Alistair's body visibly shuddered. As he forced a smile on his face, he squeezed out, “Ms. Jefferson, that isn't quite right. Mr. Luther has declared that Jessica will never be able to become Luther Group's lead designer. Such an important position will never belong to her. On the other hand, Ms. Bailey is a talented and moral person; she's the best candidate for the role. Therefore, Ms. Jefferson, please forgive my earlier actions and come back to your position.”
Bailey ambled toward Victoria before flashing a smile at Alistair. She arched an eyebrow and spoke. “Do you still remember what I said that day? It's easy to kick me out, but it won't be the same when you try to get me back. You were relieved to kick me out of Luther Group, but things won't go as smoothly for you now.”
Alistair fell silent and wore a stumped expression. A beat later, he steeled himself and asked, “May I know what we can do to satisfy you, Ms. Jefferson?”
“It's simple. Hold a press conference and apologize to me in front of the media. Remember. All of Luther Group's shareholders have to be there. I won't be satisfied unless every one of them is there.”
“You—” A tinge of anger emerged on Alistair's face.
Was it not enough for me to lower myself and come to beg her? Does she have to publicize this so that we'll all be humiliated in front of countless people?
“No?” Bailey chuckled quietly before gesturing at the door. “I guess you shouldn't be here, then. Vicky, is Saunders Group recruiting lead designers? I can start work tomorrow.”
Victoria reached out to hook her arm around Bailey's as she giggled. “My darling, you have no idea how many people are after you right now. It's Saunders Group's honor to be able to hire the famous Snowflake as Saunders Group's lead designer.”
“In that case, please contact Saunders Group's person in charge to recommend me.”
Then, after a sigh, she added, “Luther Group was nice to me, and I wanted to help solve Luther
Group's crisis. Unfortunately, there are people who won't accept my kindness and kicked me out of the place. I'm afraid Luther Group's shares are going to plummet for a period of time in the near future. Mr. Walker, I hope you'll hold on tight. Best not to let your hard-earned money evaporate into thin air overnight!”
Hearing that, Alistair's complexion turned deathly pale.
Evidently, Bailey's words had hit the right spot.
In the end, he gritted his teeth and bit the bullet. “All right! I'll prepare for the press conference and have all the shareholders apologize to you.”
At that, he glared at her before tentatively asking, “Bailey, how certain are you to make Emmy Boutique drop the lawsuit?”
Bailey curled her lips and leaned closer to his ear. “I'm the mysterious boss of Emmy Boutique, and I have the power to dictate whether Emmy Boutique lives or dies. Mr. Walker, how certain do you think I am?”
“What?” Alistair's eyes widened into the size of saucers as he looked at Bailey in disbelief. “Y-You're... Well, well, Bailey. You've intentionally made Artemis fire you. Then, you sued Luther Group in the name of Emmy Boutique to force us to apologize to you. That way, you can turn us shareholders into your stepping stones! Is Artemis trying to make you king?”
Bailey shrugged before slowly saying, “Mr. Luther dotes on me, but that's his personal matter. If you have something to say about that, talk to him. It's pointless for you to complain to me. Of course, you can stay in a stalemate with him, but you have to remember that he has over three hundred billion in
Anglandurn currency. I'm afraid you won't be able to hold on for long. I guarantee that, as long as Luther Group's shares plummet, the first to go broke would be shareholders like you.”
Alistair was so furious his entire body trembled.
They had done everything for Luther Group, but in the end, they were nothing but tools for Artemis to flatter a woman.
How could he not be angry about it? How could he possibly not?
Yet, there was nothing he could do even if he was furious. He couldn't possibly do nothing and watch as Luther Group's shares plummeted to the point of no return.
If that was the case, Bailey would be right—the first to declare bankruptcy would be Luther Group's shareholders.
“Fine, fine. You win. You win!”
Bailey grinned as she walked Alistair stumble away before shaking her head in exasperation.
She did not want to mess with those old men, but they were adamant about digging their graves, so there was nothing much she could do.
“Tsk tsk,” Victoria clicked her tongue. “The villainous Artemis is quite aggressive. To bring you to greater heights, he risked the entire Luther Group. How generous. Bay, perhaps he's...”
Bailey turned and went back to the living room. As she walked, she said, “It's impossible for us, so I'd
advise you to rid yourself of those thoughts.” Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
That afternoon, Luther Group's shareholders held a press conference and publicly apologized to Bailey. They announced that Luther Group had wronged her, so she would not need to bear any responsibility for the theft case of Les Cinq Series.
