Chapter 191
Chapter 191
A look of surprise flashed past Victoria's eyes.
As far as she remembered, Benjamin had always been a gentle and benevolent elder who treated her as if she was his daughter.
If not, how is he able to bring up such a gentle and polite offspring like Lionel?
“The past is called the past for a reason. What makes you think I'll believe your one-sided words? Besides, even if Mr. Gezmond is a cruel person, what about Lionel? What did he do wrong? Why did you have to destroy his reputation and make him the laughingstock of the upper-class society? Do you know you've ruined his life by making him have an affair with his stepmother?” she questioned.
Vincent waved his hand and uttered offhandedly, “He's an offspring of the Gezmond family. That's his sin.”
Victoria was at a loss for words.
“All right. Let's not talk about the past. All you want is to be the general manager, right? Fine. I'll hold a shareholders' meeting tomorrow at the office and talk to the directors. Stay at home and get some rest. The letter of appointment will be given to you soon.”
Victoria stared at him in surprise. “So, you've agreed? Aren't you afraid I'll sell off the company to avenge the Gezmond family?”
Vincent chuckled and said plainly, “Do whatever you want. After all, you and your brother are grown up and no longer need my protection. I don't need to expand my powers to protect my children anymore,
either. If you think destroying our company will compensate the Gezmond family, by all means, go ahead.”
Victoria did not know what to say to that.
Meanwhile, at a private mansion in the suburbs, a slender figure was leaning against the window of a luxurious-looking living room. The man was holding a glass of wine and slowly sipping on it.
Behind him stood a middle-aged man dressed in a suit.
“Mr. Gezmond, why didn't you give me a heads up before coming back? I would've made arrangements to have your accommodation arranged.”
Lionel lowered his gaze to look at the red liquid in his glass. He uttered monotonously, “I've assigned you to keep an eye on Saunders Group's activities. How did it go?”
The middle-aged man nodded, saying, “Vincent has gotten old and isn't as bold as he was in the past. Hence, Saunders Group hasn't had any outstanding performance for the past few years. They had been operating on the safe side. Besides, the Saunders family's eldest son doesn't do proper work. All he does is fool around and get drunk every day. Currently, the Saunders family is facing a problem in passing down the company. They don't have a suitable heir, which puts the higher-ups on their toes.”
At that point, the middle-aged man hesitated for a moment before adding, “However, the daughter of the Saunders family, Victoria, has resigned from Luther Group. Based on what I know, she's probably going back to take over the family business. Currently, she's the only person Vincent can rely on.”
Lionel raised a brow and smiled. “Really? It's been seven years. It's time for them to pay for what they did.”
“Yes, they should. Don't worry, Mr. Gezmond. The plan you've asked me to plot is almost complete. All that's needed is a final move from you. I can guarantee this will make Saunders Group announce their bankruptcy within a month.”
Lionel swirled the wine glass and scoffed, “Calm down. We'll do things one by one. Let's start with the Saunders family's eldest son. I want Vincent to witness his beloved son sent to jail.”
“Okay. I know what to do. I'll make the arrangements and get back to you in three days.”
“Go on.”
Meanwhile, at Cadence's residence, Rhonda was watching Cadence examine her abdomen with a machine in the room.
“I've been taking contraceptive pills. How could such a thing happen?” she asked.
Cadence raised a brow and smiled, teasing, “Maybe that little guy is stronger than usual and wasn't affected by the chemicals.”
Rhonda turned away to conceal the hatred in her eyes. Gritting her teeth, she asked, “So? Am I really pregnant?”
“Yes. It's a success. You know what? I feel extremely accomplished. I can't believe I actually made Artemis' wife pregnant. I should ask him what he feels about it next time.”
Rhonda glared at him and scolded, “Cadence, don't involve me if you're seeking death. Tell me. Now that this child exists, what should we do?”
Cadence put the device away, placed both hands on both sides of her head, and loomed over her.
With an ambiguous smile, he suggested, “Why don't we make Artemis suffer in silence? If this child is a boy, he can inherit the Luther family's property in the future. You can still ride on your son's fortunes. Besides, he's your actual biological son compared to that b*stard, Maxton.”
He reached out an arm and stroked her flat belly, saying, “Artemis doesn't love you. If he finds out you've stolen Bailey's son and claimed him as yours, he'll definitely make you rot in prison for the rest of your life. Instead of letting that happen, we can work together to take over the entire Luther family and own all their fortune.”
Rhonda's pupils suddenly constricted. She widened her eyes and stared at him as if she had figured something out. She hissed, “You've been planning to get me pregnant to plot against the Luther family, haven't you?”
Cadence chuckled sinisterly. “This plan only benefits you. The fact that you came looking for me proves you share the same thought. So, stop putting on that expression as if you're going to gobble me up. It's rather hypocritical, don't you think? Ronni, this child is a blessing in disguise. It can help you to become Artemis' wife right away.”
Rhonda gritted her teeth and shot him a vicious glance. This cunning fox has planned this all along, and I'm like a stupid animal that fell into his trap. Ugh. How stupid can you be, Rhonda?
“Okay. Since we're on the same page, let's find a way to make Artemis sleep with me to make it look like this child shares the Luther family's blood.”
“That's easy.” Cadence got to his feet and looked down at her with his brow arched. “Isn't Ms. Caridee of the Luther family having her coming-of-age ceremony in two days? It'll be a crowded one. I'll drug Artemis and let him sleep with you with all the guests as witnesses. When that happens, your family can force Artemis to take your hand in marriage.”
“Okay. You better make sure this plan is foolproof, or we'll be in deep trouble.”
Cadence patted her cheeks gently, smirking. “Take good care of my child. I'll help him to become the new heir of Luther Group.”
Meanwhile, Bailey had just stepped into the living room of the Luther residence when Caridee approached her.
“Oh, Bailey, my cousin-in-law, you're finally here!” Caridee greeted.

Bailey frowned and said calmly, “Ms. Caridee, you can just address me as Bailey. Edmund and I aren't engaged yet. It'll create unnecessary trouble once others hear this.”
Caridee pouted. “Pfft. You think too much. Fine. I'll call you Bailey for now.”
Bailey could not be bothered to argue with her. She asked straightforwardly, “What's the matter, anyway?”
Caridee grabbed Bailey's arm and pulled the latter toward the stairs. “Come, come. Let me show you something.”
As both of them made their way up the steps, they bumped into Rhonda, who was coming down.
“Bailey, why are you always visiting the Luther residence?” Rhonda questioned.
Before Bailey could even answer, Caridee said unhappily, “I was the one who invited her. Do you have any problem with that?”
Rhonda was stunned, and she looked at Caridee in puzzlement. “Caridee, since when do you mingle with someone like her?”
