Chapter 2168: Got The Card
Chapter 2168: Got the Card
"Alright, alright, I was just asking," Mr. Brightwood said as he took out his phone. "Since you're buying a house tomorrow, I'll call your aunt now. Your mom is really looking forward to this; it's good to settle it early."
With that, Mr. Brightwood dialed Rupert's aunt in front of his wife and son. They had already discussed borrowing money before, so when he mentioned it again, the aunt agreed to transfer the money immediately.
Mr. Brightwood, wearing his glasses, gave his account number over the phone. Mrs. Brightwood felt a surge of joy inside.
Seeing the silver strands mixed with his father's black hair and the new wrinkles on his face, Rupert felt no pain at all. He was incredibly calm, almost as if he had no heart. At this moment, listening to the call about borrowing money, he felt numb inside.
He was numb because he lacked money-desperately lacked it. It was a huge gap that, if not filled, could cost him his life. The debt collectors sometimes sent gang members after him when they couldn't collect Rupert had nowhere else to turn. He seldom went out abroad and changed jobs frequently. He had borrowed from all his friends using various lies and couldn't remember how many people he owed money to. He had changed his phone number multiple times to avoid familiar faces. In short, he had exhausted all possible sources of money.
He borrowed amounts ranging from thirty-five thousand to fifty thousand dollars, even one or two hundred dollars-he wouldn't refuse even a few bucks.
Soon, his father finished the call with his aunt. Not long after, Mr. Brightwood's phone chimed with a message notification. He checked it and showed it to his wife, "The money's in."
Mrs. Brightwood was elated and took out a bank card from her purse, handing it carefully to her son with both hands.
"Rupert, there's 1. 8 million dollars here. You and Summer can pick your favorite floor and finalize this."
"Okay," Rupert replied calmly as he took the card with a faint smile on his face.
Mrs. Brightwood felt relieved and pushed aside all unpleasant thoughts.
"The password is your birthday. I hope you and Summer will get pregnant soon after marriage; then she'll leave the entertainment industry for the child's sake," Mrs. Brightwood said, feeling that this was a good first step.
Talking about this issue still left her somewhat unsettled. She explained, "It's not that don't understand; many people wouldn't understand entering the entertainment industry either Girls are always at a disadvantage there; you should
change your stance on this."
Rupert stood up with the bank card in hand, "I'm tired, Mom; you should rest early too." Then he walked towards his bedroom.
Apart from matters related to money, he didn't want to say much more.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
Watching their son's back and hearing the door close, Mr. and Mrs. Brightwood felt an unusual premonition.
Their son seemed unfamiliar-what was wrong with him? His state wasn't right today; did he have something on his mind?
"Don't think too much about it; maybe he's just tired from the flight," Mr. Brightwood said as he put an arm around his wife's shoulder.
"We'll talk about Summer leaving the
industry once he's rested; we need Rupert's support for this decision," he continued. "Summer always thinks it's right because Rupert supports her."
"Too young and really lacks judgment," Mrs. Brightwood said angrily. "I don't know why Summer turned out like this."
