Chapter 399
Chapter 399
“Andre?”
Andre nodded, eyeing the untouched dinner on the table. “Why aren’t you eating?”
“Can’t find the appetite when I’m alone.”
As Molly lowered her head, Andre spotted the remnants of cake on her cheek. He handed her a
napkin. “You’ve got some cake on your face.”
“What?”
Suddenly, memories of Chad’s kiss on her cheek surfaced, making her heart beat wildly. She took the
napkin and wiped her face. “Andre, what brings you here?”
Andre replied, “Came to pick you up.”
He realized he hadn’t had a meal alone with Molly since her return. “Want to join me for dinner?”
Molly nodded.
The untouched dinner was cleared off the table, and Andre ordered some freshly cooked dishes
instead. In the middle of their meal, Mia’s call came through.
“Mia, Molly and I won’t be home for dinner tonight.”
Mia sounded surprised, “You two are together?”
“Yeah.”
Mia blinked, puzzled. Wasn’t Molly supposed to be on a date with Chad? Being the smart woman she
was, she guessed, “Chad left, and Molly’s feeling a bit down?”
Andre glanced at his downcast sister across the table and responded with a hum.
Mia cautioned warmly, “The rain’s heavy tonight. Drive safely and come home early.”
Andre agreed with a smile.
In the restaurant, the siblings sat in silence. The new dishes arrived shortly after.
Andre took great care to attend to his sister’s needs, even changing her tableware.
Touched, Molly asked, “Andre, can I ask you something? After my disappearance, I’ve shifted all my
dependence and trust from you to Chad. Are you mad?”
“If I didn’t have Mia, I might be.”
Now he had a wife and a child on the way, so Andre’s heart was filled to the brim with love for his
family. Seeing Molly getting closer to Chad didn’t bother him much.
Molly confessed something she had never told anyone before, “Andre, even though I haven’t spoken
much with you and our eldest brother since I returned, I’ve never forgotten that I’m your sister. I care
about you guys deeply.
“I’ve been away from you guys for so long. I don’t even know how to be close to you anymore. There
were times when you and our eldest brother showed concern for me, and I felt guilty. I didn’t know how
to reciprocate your care. If I just say that I care about you guys, it seems shallow.
“The Molly in my memory, who grew up carefree and loved by her parents and brothers, could demand
gifts from you guys without a second thought. But now, I feel like I owe you so much.”
Seeing his sister in tears, Andre comforted her, “Molly, just like before, we never expect anything in
return for our love for you. You don’t owe us anything. No matter when, your presence only brings joy
to our family, never sorrow.”
Molly burst into tears. She had been feeling down since Chad left earlier, and Andre’s words only
added to her emotional turmoil. “Andre, I can’t forget mom’s death.”
Andre fell silent at the mention of their mother.
...
Finley was considering whether to reach an agreement with the Ashford family when a landline number
appeared on his phone.
Tom picked up, “Hello?”
“I want to speak with the boss.” It was Brian’s voice.
Tom handed the phone to Finley. “It’s Brian.”
“How did you get out?” Finley asked, “Whose number is this?”
Brian only realized that the Marshal Group was totally finished after his escape. He was of no use to
Finley anymore; Finley wouldn’t bail a lost cause out of jail.
Wyatt’s sentence was set, and he was waiting for the verdict.
As long as the Calder Corporation could trace the fraudulent accounts he had created through their
financial system, he wouldn’t escape imprisonment either.
But he had a daughter. Parental love knows no bounds. Brian might be heartless, but he cared for his
child deep down.
“Give me ten million, and I’ll keep your secrets. I’ve got nothing left but a daughter. I want to send Jillian
abroad. The money will ensure she won’t suffer in the future. I’ll take all the blame and serve the
sentence.
“Otherwise, I’ll expose everything I’ve done for you over the years. Chad will find me soon. I hope to
see my daughter before I’m handed over to the court, and ensure she has ten million.”
Finley found himself being blackmailed by Brian. His fists clenched. “Where are you?”
“I know Tom is capable of murder. I’m somewhere only the police can find.”
A chill ran down Finley’s spine. “Don’t dig your own grave.”
“I know very well that there’s a dead end ahead of me.”
Brian hung up, standing in the rain under surveillance. After his escape, he had gone to the company.
The towering building that once bore the name of the Marshal Group was now the Calder Corporation.
He had become a joke to others.
While Finley was trying to locate Brian, commotion broke out in the building. Tom stood by the window.
His eyes were narrowing. “Boss, Brian’s hiding downstairs, and Chad’s here!”
Finley squinted, attributing Brian’s audacity to desperation. He had purposely chosen to hide
downstairs, making them the primary suspects if anything happened to him.
The rain kept pouring.
The siblings finished their dinner and were on their way home. Andre took great care of his sister,
getting his shoulder wet in the process.
Molly remarked, “Andre, your shoulder’s wet. Mia’s going to worry about you when we get home.”This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
Thinking of his wife at home, Andre laughed. “I just hope that she’s not out playing in the water. She
won’t have time to worry about me.” The siblings had shared many words that evening, strengthening
their bond.
At the Cedillo residence, Mrs. Cedillo was indeed having a blast playing in the water.
Naomi spotted the restless Mia acting like a child, splashing around in the rain. The ever-worried
Naomi grabbed an umbrella and went outside to scold her disobedient sister-in-law.
When Andre arrived home, Mia was sitting obediently in the living room, not causing any trouble, which
was unlike her.
Andre was surprised. “You didn’t go out to play in the rain?”
Hansen complained, “Man, your wife surely isn’t the stay-at-home type. She was just out having a
blast, and Naomi just sent her back home.”
Mia looked guilty.
Andre chuckled softly, sitting next to his wife. He teased, “You are my little kitten, so I know you well.
Someone just can’t resist frolicking in the rain.”
Mia bit her lip. “What did you eat out there? You smell like grilled meat.”
Molly said, “You have quite the nose on you.”
“It’s not about having a sharp nose. It’s about being smart. How could your brother take you out and not
treat you to some steak?”
Molly retorted, “Mia, are you sure you’re not having a food baby?”
Andre, with a pampering smile, took his wife’s hand and went upstairs to change.
Late at night, Chad finished his work and remembered his sister. It was too late to call her, so he
decided to send her a text instead.
