Chapter 410
Chapter 410
Mia nodded understandingly. Her eyes were welling up with tears as she watched her husband.
Bruce stood up too. “Naomi, something just came up at work. Don’t wait up for me.”
Naomi blinked in surprise. “What? Both you and Andre suddenly have something to do?”
Leo also got up to leave, but his father laid a hand on his shoulder. “Stay home, and keep your mother
company.”
For once, Bruce and Andre, the unusual duo, left the house together.
They drove to an old neighborhood, where a lonely, untamed oak tree stood in the courtyard. The
moment they stepped out of the car, they were engulfed in an oppressive atmosphere.
They had Finley’s address, so the brothers went straight upstairs.
Tom, who was upstairs, heard the sound of a car approaching. He peered out the window and was
surprised to see it was the Cedillo brothers. Frowning, he said, “Boss, it’s Bruce and Andre.”
Finley, who was about to finish his meal, paused. His gaze was turning cautious. “Is Chad here?” he
asked.
Tom shook his head. “No.”
Finley pondered. The arrival of the Cedillo brothers instead of Chad meant their man in custody was
safe, and Chad hadn’t gathered enough evidence to investigate them. For them, as long as it’s not
Chad, they could handle it.
“Boss, do you think it’s about the incident sixteen years ago?” Tom asked.
Finley shook his head again. “If it’s about that case, Chad wouldn’t let it go.” He suddenly thought of
Ellory and Kyle, who had failed to make a mark.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Finley looked at the dark wooden door, calmed his mind, and
said, “Open it!”
Tom went to the door, and glanced at the two men outside. They were a pair of brothers with a
significant age gap. Their faces were taut, exuding a cold, stern anger.
“Come in please,” he said, opening the door.
The brothers entered, one after the other.
The lone tree in the yard blocked the view inside the house. Even though it was a bright summer day
outside, the room needed a light on. The room’s outdated furnishings were devoid of life, old and
colorless, creating a stifling atmosphere.
The Cedillo brothers stood in front of Finley. With his long career in politics, Finley managed to hide his
concern behind his friendly smile. “What brings you here today without telling me? Tom, prepare a
couple of extra plates.”
Bruce sat down. “We haven’t seen you in years. My father often asked us to visit you. He’s been
worried about you. You are living alone after your family’s gone. He wanted to come with us a few
times, but his work keeps getting in the way.”
Finley’s smile faded. He looked at Bruce. It seemed they were here for more than a mere visit. “I
appreciate the concern.”
Tom brought out the plates and utensils and started preparing tea for the brothers with a worried look
on his face.
When handing over the cups, Andre glanced at his wrist but said nothing. He suddenly stood up and
went to the living room. Standing in front of two black and white photos, he asked, “Finley, after all
these years, you’re still so humble. How have you managed to live so long alone? Why haven’t you
remarried?”
Without waiting for an answer, Andre continued, “Or have you already, but secretly?”
Finley thought of Holly and turned to look at Andre in the living room. “What do you mean?”
Andre smiled, walked over, and sat next to Finley. “You are a professor at a university. Haven’t you met
any suitable female students? It might be unconventional, but as long as you keep it a secret, no one
will know.”
At this point, Finley, not being a fool, understood what Andre was implying. He glared at Tom. Hadn’t he
said that Holly was a secret?
Tom looked startled. When had Andre found out? Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Finley decided to drop the pleasantries. “Why did you really come here?”
Bruce’s eyes hardened. “We came to discuss how to settle a blood feud.”
Finley fixed his gaze on Bruce. “Speak clearly!”
This was about his wife and unborn child. Bruce suppressed his rage. “Fourteen years ago, you
commanded the Mastin family to harm my wife and kill my child. How should I retaliate?”
Tom remembered the incident and immediately stood by Finley, fearing the Cedillo brothers might
attack Finley.
Finley understood the brothers’ intentions. His initial anxiety subsided. So, this was about that incident.
It must have been the Mastin family who had spilled the beans. However, he wasn’t afraid or planning
to hide anything.
“Did I harm your wife? Is she dead? Did I kill your child? Was it formed yet?” Finley asked with a
twisted smile on his face. “Did I break any laws? No. Since I didn’t break any laws, we have no feud.”
The room went silent for two seconds. Then Andre smiled chillingly. “If that’s the case, Holly’s baby isn’t
formed yet either. If it’s killed... it wouldn’t matter, would it?”
Finley’s smile froze. How did they find out about Holly? He dropped his smile, replacing it with a wary
look. “Andre!”
Andre looked at him, seemingly relaxed. His words were as casual as if he was discussing the weather.
“It’s not illegal. Just kill an unborn child and spare its mother.”
He looked at Finley. “Unfortunately, you’re going to be childless again!”
Enraged, Finley slammed his hand on the table. His eyes were blazing. “You wouldn’t dare!”
Tom immediately stepped in to protect Finley and warned Andre, “Don’t forget. You have a pregnant
wife at home. If you want Mia to be safe... Ah!”
A painful scream made everyone look at Andre. In an instant, he had grabbed a fork from the table and
rammed it through Tom’s hand!
Yes, he used a fork to pierce Tom’s hand! It’s clear how much strength he used.
Finley stared in disbelief.
Andre moved so fast that even Tom was shocked. It wasn’t until the pain stung the back of his hand,
and he felt the warm trickle of his own blood, that Tom let out a howl of agony.
The mention of his beloved Mia sent a cloud of gloom over Andre. No one could threaten him with his
wife. His knuckles were pale with the intensity of his grip. Andre’s eyes bore into Tom, icy and
oppressive. “Consider this a warning,” he said casually. But his words sent a chill down Tom’s spine.
At this moment, Tom was soaked in a cold sweat. The pain was so intense that he had to take deep
breaths to alleviate it. He glared at Andre like a vengeful spirit. With each gasp of breath, he wished he
could tear Andre to pieces.
Andre gently warned again, “Remember my Achilles heel. If I hear my wife’s name from your mouth
again, it won’t be your hand that gets skewered.”
Andre pulled the bloody fork out of Tom’s hand, and then held it against Tom’s temple.
He exuded a menacing aura, but his voice remained calm and devoid of anger, which only made it
more terrifying. “Next time,” he said, “it will be here.”
