Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 970

Chapter 970

The glass shattered into pieces. Orange juice splattered everywhere, including her legs and her slippers.

“You” Lewis looked at the orange liquid around his feet, despair written all over his face.

He would have kept his mouth shut if he’d known that this would happen.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” Wendy ran out of her room. When she saw the scene in the dining room, she was stunned. “What

happened?”

It was like Lewis had seen an angel. Between coughs, he spat out, “Water —” Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

Wendy immediately understood him and ran to the kitchen to pour him a glass of water.

He drank half of it in one gulp. It was only then that Lewis breathed easier.

Larissa was still in shock.

“Is it true? That Marilyn is the traitor?

She couldn’t believe her ears.

“But hasn’t she worked at Blue Star Shipping for years? Have there been other secrets leaked to Moorewell Shipping?”

“Not before.” After his violent choking, Lewis‘ voice was hoarse. “But I have proof,”

Larissa’s heart skipped a beat. “What proof?”

“I looked up her background information.” Lewis drank another sip of water to wash down the unease. “She’s from an average family. She

grew up with her mother, who’s just a stay–at–home mom. Although they lived in a small town before, they had all the best things that life

had to offer. Marilyn’s classmates said that in the four years of her university education, her clothes, bags, and makeup were all designer.”

“Are you saying that she’s a sugar baby?” This was Larissa’s first thought.

Lewis glared at her and said crossly. “What is in that mind of yours?”

“Where did her money come from, then?” Larissa was confused.

“That’s the thing.” Lewis curled his linger and tapped on the table. “I got a hacker to search up Marilyn’s bank account. Before coming to Blue Star, she lived off whatever pocket money her mother sent her. It seemed normal. So, I looked up her mother’s bank account and

realized —” Lewis trailed off, creating suspense.

Larissa urged. “What did you find? Don’t leave me hanging. Say something!”

“I realized that since a long time ago, before Marilyn was even born, someone had been sending her mother money. And that person is the

CFO of Moorewell Shipping.”

This revelation was growing bigger and bigger. For a moment, Larissa couldn’t take it all in.

“Why does the CFO of Moorewell Shipping want to send money to Marilyn’s mother?”

“I suspect that Marlyn and her mother have something to do with one of the superiors in Moorewell Shipping. I don’t know who it is yet but this is enough to prove that Marilyn is the traitor.

“Our collaboration with Thompson Medical was leaked by her. As for Judy, she was probably just a decoy sent to confuse us and cast suspicion on your side, all to protect the real traitor, Marilyn.”

Lewis had made the explanation very clear. “So she definitely has something planned for you today.”

Larissa was shaken. “So, should I call her to tell her not to come?”

“You can go.” Lewis said after a moment. “Il she does have bad intentions, we could use this chance to fire her.”

“Are you using me as bait?” Larissa was a little sullen.

Lewis raised an eyebrow and retorted, “Didn’t you want to go in the first place?”

1/2

“Alright, don’t say anything else. Just get changed. We’ll leave after breaklast.”

Wendy could only understand a small portion of their conversation.

“Is it safe for you to go?” she asked worriedly. “Do you need me to call the cops if you take too long to come back?”

“Sure.” Lewis nodded. “Sorry for the trouble. Wendy.”

Because of what happened before, Wendy and Lewis were still awkward around each other.
