Chapter 38 Prove Your Innocence (Part One)
Chapter 38 Prove Your Innocence (Part One)
Bang!
The door of the Civil Affairs Bureau swung open all of a sudden. Heads turned to see what the
commotion was all about only to see Spencer, holding a struggling Fiona.
"Mr. Cheng!" Matt, the head of the Civil Affairs Bureau, rushed over, looking disheveled with his tie
askew. He quickly wiped the beads of sweat on his forehead before bowing in front of Spencer. "Please
come in!" the man said.
With a menacing look on his face, Spencer surveyed the place before taking a step in.
"What the hell are you waiting for? Where's the registration form? Give it to me now! I want to get
married!" Matt pointed to a group of people and shouted, "Bring me the form and hurry up!"
With that, the staff scrambled to fulfill their boss's orders. Spencer dragged Fiona's hand and walked to
the table where one of the workers placed the marriage form. After snatching a pen from a nearby
employee, he started filling it out.
Next to him, the helpless Fiona, who had been crying too much, merely stood feeling like she had lost
all of her strength. She stared blankly ahead, ignoring everything and everyone around her,
disbelieving what was happening.
"Uh, excuse me." A trembling staff opened his mouth to ask the standard set of questions for such
occasions. "Do you come here of your own accord to get married?"
'Own accord?' Spencer glared at the man performing the rites who almost jumped out of fear. 'Damn it!
Why did he have to ask that?' he cursed inwardly. He raised his foot and kicked the man on his butt.
"No one would think you're dumb if you wouldn't talk!"
Spencer completed the form in seconds. He then turned to Fiona and thrust the pen to her hand,
almost forcing her to write down her information.
It was then that Fiona snapped back to her senses. With sheer determination, she pulled her hand from
Spencer's grip and declared, "I won't complete this form! I don't want to fill it out! I was forced to be
here!"
Spencer's eyes narrowed into slits as he looked at Fiona, his face full of anger. He grabbed the
registration form from her hand and tore it into pieces. "Give me another one!" he shouted.
One of the staff quickly handed him a fresh form, which he slammed on the table in front of Fiona. "Fill
it out!" he demanded.
"I don't want to!" With clenched fists, Fiona shook her head and resisted.
"Johnson!" He called out to his assistant but kept his eyes fixed on Fiona. "Go to D University and bring
Ryan Wen here."
Fiona turned to Spencer at the mention of Ryan's name. With pleading eyes, she grabbed the pen and
cried, "I'll fill out the form! I'll fill it out! Please... don't bring him here."
Spencer's lips formed a cold and cruel smile. "Then fill out the form."
Fiona's hand trembled as she wrote her information on the paper. But before she could seal the
document with her thumbprint, tears fell once again from her eyes.
Once she had pressed her thumb on the form, she knew that it was impossible for her to be with Ryan
again. Their relationship had ended before it even started. Once she had placed her fingerprint on the
form, she and Spencer would become legally married. She would have no other choice but to be his
wife and live with him for the rest of her life.
As Fiona entertained these thoughts, Spencer was slowly losing patience. With furrowed brows, he
grabbed her hand and pressed her thumb on the form.
And done!
A tear drop fell on the paper.
"Spencer," Fiona said grimly without looking at him, the corners of her mouth twitching. "I hate you."
But Spencer was unaffected. He took the form from her and wrote down his information before signing
the document with his own thumb print. He then told her coldly, "Hate me all you want, but it won't
change the fact that I'm now your husband."
Matt politely took the form from his hand and said cautiously, "Mr. Cheng, now you have to take a group
photo."
Spencer pulled Fiona close to him and asked, "Did you hear that, Fiona? We're going to take a group
photo. So fix up that ugly face!"
She felt like a puppet under Spencer's control. Obediently, she sat on the studio chair and posed next
to him in front of a red backdrop. With one click, their photo was done. Fiona could only look at the
marriage certificates in Spencer's hand. She couldn't think of anything else. In her head, she was still in
denial of her marriage.
Meanwhile, Spencer entertained mixed feelings as he looked at the certificates. He placed them in his
coat pocket and pressed them against his chest. Sternly, he said to her, "Let's go!"
And without even waiting for her, he marched out of the office. He didn't look back, much less wait for
her. Fiona only stood still as if in a daze.
Johnson looked at Spencer before turning to Fiona.
"Leave her alone!" Spencer said coldly. NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.
The door of the building opened with a creak. The sound was followed by the distant humming of a car
engine.
With this, a collective sigh filled the room.
Matt looked at Fiona and spoke.
"Well..." He hesitated for a moment but continued, "Mrs. Cheng, aren't you leaving?"
'Mrs. Cheng?'
Fiona's eyes were instantly filled with tears. She only managed a snort before staggering away on her
high heels, finding her way to the door.
'How pitiful am I!' she thought. When she left, everyone in the room began whispering to one another.
"How cruel! He abandoned her right after they got married."
"He forced her to be his wife."
Matt took a handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed his forehead dry. Turning to everyone, he said,
"Now, I don't want you mentioning what happened here to anyone else. You didn't see anything, and
you didn't hear anything!"
"Matt, who was that man? Is he dangerous? He looks so young!"
"Young? For someone so young, he's terrible!" Matt stared at the person who had asked those
questions and said, "He may be young, but he holds a high position. He's definitely going to be
significant in the future! We can't afford to offend him!"
"Whoa!" They gasped in astonishment.
It was a cool September night and Fiona had stepped out of the Civil Affairs Bureau wearing nothing
but a dress. She wrapped her arms around herself as she looked around, not knowing where to go.
How would she live from then on? How long would she have to wait? Fiona wondered if Spencer would
let her go once he grew tired of his hatred. But what if he didn't get over that state? She shuddered at
the thought of being entangled with him for the rest of their lives.
Meanwhile, at a high-rise building in the residential area of Four Seasons Scenery, Ryan had been
waiting for nearly two hours.
He had hurried over there as soon as the party was over. He had tried calling Fiona but her phone was
off and she couldn't be reached. He knew that Fiona lived there. But it didn't occur to him that he would
have to pay her a visit under such circumstances.
"It's getting late. I don't think Fiona will come back tonight. Let's go," Andrew advised.
"No, let's wait a few more minutes." Ryan could only pace back and forth in front of the building. He
thought he had made some progress with Fiona so he didn't understand why she suddenly
disappeared. Something must have happened!
Andrew looked up at the sky. "The sky is getting darker. It might even rain later so we better head back.
Are you sure you want to wait more? Your brother has been back at home for days now, and yet you
haven't gone back to see him. Your father must be upset!"
Ryan frowned when he heard this. He was about to say something to his defense when a figure caught
his attention. 'It's Fiona!' Ryan remembered how it was like that time at the art museum. The moment
he felt like giving up on waiting for her, she showed up at the last minute!
